Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

A Blight of Ostriches

The Ostrich in Rome's Pope's denial that Islam is not engaged in a religious war with the West has of course been received with delight by weaklings, quislings, and fellow-ostriches everywhere.

His assertion that

"It's not right to identify Islam with violence. It's not right and it's not true. I believe that in every religion there is always a little fundamentalist group....If I speak of Islamic violence, then I have to speak of Catholic violence"

has, as the BBC reports (the approval of his remarks by the leftist  broadcaster being, nonetheless, almost tangible, in its counter-examples), outraged many members of said Ostrich's Pope's own flock, with the hashtag #PasMonPape trending in the land where the aged Father Jacques Hamel was mercilessly done to death last week.

Unimpressed by his interpretation of the present conflict, the boys from Isis have issued a blunt message for His Holiness, though given his proclivities, it's unlikely to stop him turning a blind eye as well as the other cheek.

This foolish, dangerous man seems unwittingly bent on making the requiem for Father Jacques the requiem for us all.

(Update: Don't miss Professor Denis MacEoin's new article "The Pope and Holy War" here)

And of course the Pope is not the only opinion leader in the West, clerical or lay, who refuses to see the enemy, much less see the enemy's designs for what they are.

Contrast this proudly straight-talking guy regarding the future of Europe!

The anti-Trump brigade will (try to) have a field day with this!

"What is the response of the American and European leadership to our new reality? Denial, word games and silence. And verbal attacks on citizens who insist on talking openly about the threats we face. They call us "Islamophobic," "xenophobic," or "racist" to try to silence us....Western governments have been successfully working with social media giants such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Microsoft to censor what they call "hate speech" – meaning any criticism of extremist Islam and illegal mass migration. In some European countries, the police are interrogating citizens for social media posts that are critical of the effects of unchecked migration. At a time when Facebook has censored, blocked or removed Gatestone's material, we refuse to be silenced; we continue to publish our carefully researched, accurate articles and video productions."

Europe's Islamic Future: "There are reasons to believe ... resistance is building"

In the wake of the recent Australian General Election that has seen Malcolm Turnbull's Liberal Party limp to victory, just avoiding a hung Parliament, and excluding from his Cabinet conservatives such as Tony Abbott (the prime minister Turnbull toppled in a grubby coup some months ago), the latest issue of the Australian Jewish News carries an editorial that observes, inter alia:
"The moderate brand that Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has identified with has seen the PM wedged between Labor on the one hand and conservatives within his own party on the other.
In an age of doctrinaire political certitudes on the right and the left, steering the middle course may not be the most fashionable option, but it is the most responsible.
Australians have historically voted for governments of the political centre, and voters have shunned voices closer to the fringes.
In a world that flirts with Donald Trump and embraces Brexit, we hope common sense will prevail in Australia."
With those words the paper insults not only the millions of decent Australians with views that mirror Mr Abbott's and respected conservative columnist Andrew Bolt's, but the many many millions of decent Britons who voted for their country to leave the squalid bureaucratic tyranny that is the EU.

Going on to deplore the re-election to the Senate of a proven racist fringe party leader who demands a ban on Muslim immigration to Australia, the editorial observes "[A]s Jews, we know what it is like being on the receiving end of such policies in bygone eras."

And a report in the paper quotes a statement by a prominent communal figure that  "vilification of Islam ... must be repudiated".

Such a view threatens to place in the "racist bigot" box women who deplore Islam's misogyny as well as the writings of Australia's leading scholar of Islam, Anglican priest Dr Mark Durie.

It is untenable that the faults of Islam cannot be discussed without the discussant suffering obloquy.

The paper, which to my certain knowledge once summarily rejected an article (a perfectly reasonable one) by a regular columnist on the grounds that it was "an Islamophobic rant" (the paper has long since adopted "Islamophobia" into its lexicon), has become rather too left-leaning for many readers.  These are people who resent being cast as extremists and lumped in with racists merely because they have the temerity to express disquiet about large-scale Muslim immigration into Australia and its likely effect on government policy towards Israel (we see this trend already in sections of the Labor Party).

As a London reader wrote to the paper in response to a foolish, ignorant and in some ways quite despicable article in the paper by the British principal of an Australian Jewish day school who thundered that Brexit makes him ashamed of his native land,
"Those who voted for Brexit felt this was no longer their country.  Their national identity was denigrated by the EU and their cultural heritage was threatened .... He does not fully understand what is happening here .... If he despairs of us, he is no loss to Britain...."
One man from outside Europe who completely understands what is happening there and elsewhere in Europe is Dr Daniel Pipes, who in this latest Gatestone Institute/The Rebel.com video outlines three possible scenarios for the future of Europe.

"Stop The Triumph of Barbarism ... Give Me Back My Old Germany": Lebanese German deplores islamification

He arrived in Germany in 1977 as a stranger, he explains, and Germany embraced him.  Now, he laments, Germany has become a strange land to him.  Young Arab men who arrived as leftists are now old men sporting big Islamic beards, their German wives discarded ...  Dhimmitude lurks for Christians and Jews ...

"Europe is Becoming Palestinianised": (video) [updated]

Wow, this guy is as articulate as he is handsome!

I just couldn't resist posting this, his latest video (or should that be "vlog"?) here.

Yes, he's the wonderful Brian of London, who blogs at IsraellyCool, and whose devastating demolition of the lies that underpin a certain prizewinning speech has caused such a stir this past week.

Here he gives a little pep talk to the Jews of Europe.  "Europe is adopting dhimmitude before needing to ... The numbers are unfortunately with the enemy ..."

A song he plays warns "There's a new strain of the old lethal virus..."

Last week, Brian of London gave an interview on that certain prizewinning speech to Israeli English language talk show host Mottle Wolfe.  I deplore the title that Mr Wolfe gave to this video but I'm posting the video here because it shows yet again Brian of London's brilliance.  Brian also reminds the audience to sign his petition against Hate Speech in UK Schools, which is available here.

Update: Brian knocks it out of the ballpark again, with this riposte to Labour MP Wes Streeting, who sits for Ilford North, has denounced antisemitism in the Labour Party, yet insists that the speech is not antisemitic.

Meanwhile, in Slough, a lone tool of "Palestinianism" helps to demonise the Zionist Entity:

"These People, They Are Nothing More Than Kufar" & Other Scenes From Eurabia

Business as usual: Israel-haters in Amsterdam
In the Australian Murdoch-owned newspaper the Herald-Sun on Sunday, a good article by conservative columnist Miranda Devine, who absolutely nailed it when she wrote that the agenda of the ABC (the BBC's counterpart Down Under)
"is to deny the threat of Islamist terrorism, to engender complacency, and avoid confronting the fact that Islamists are bringing their war to the West.
It is cultural relativists telling us we have no right to feel aggrieved by the attacks on Brussels or Paris or Sydney or Melbourne, because there are more terrorist atrocities in the Middle East and Africa."

With those familiar mendacious maps
As she so rightly says,
"there's a reason our civilised Judaeo-Christian societies are peaceful, compared with broken Islamic states that are spawning a murderous ideology that threatens the world.  Our culture is superior and we want to keep it that way.
But the Left are still clutching at straws to deny the undeniable.  As the blood of innocents fills the streets of Europe ... the very people who weakened our defences are now pretending there isn't a problem."
Ms Devine quotes from Belgian Senator Alain Destexhe's "chilling article" in La Libre Belgique last week,  in which he describes how the long-serving former Mayor of Molenbeek, Philippe Moureaux,
"ushered in a generation of Muslim radicals, mainly from Morocco or Turkey, who kept him in power and who silenced critics by calling them Islamophobic....
Fundamentalist Salafist imams and teachers funded by Saudi Arabia were imported to spread ideological poison.  Molenbeek, now more than 40 per cent Muslim, became Belgium's fastest growing place....Molenbeek gradually became an area of lawlessness, where agents of the water or electricity services must be accompanied by police, where almost all restaurants are closed during Ramadan, when 'dirty Jew' has become a common insult... and where blondes and those who wear short skirts are treated as whores or sluts."
No-go areas. Islamic antisemitism. Contempt for and attacks on women.  That has a familiar ring, of course.

Five years ago an Israeli television crew exposed what is going on in Belgium and other provinces of Eurabia, and what the Islamists' ultimate goal is, in this compelling  44-minute video, from which my header is just one of many telling and troubling quotations (hat tip: Vlad Tepes blog):

The media made much today of the "football hooligans" who invaded a peaceful demonstration in central Brussels.

But I doubt many have shown this Islamic troublemaker, yelling "Palestine!" over and over (hat tip: Vlad Tepes again):

Concludes Ms Devine:
"Weak, socially progressive Belgium has become Europe's most hospitable host of the Islamic cancer.  But its failures provide us with a salutary lesson of what not to do."
Like fellow Herald-Sun columnist Andrew Bolt in his Monday column today, she cited the Belgian ambassador to Australia, Jean-Luc Bodson, as one of those naive fools.  But their numbers are legion.
Why, far from learning what not to do, even the Pope, in his Easter message, urges Christian Europe to, in effect, lay down and die, and the BBC laps it up!

Sheer  hypocrisy from the wretch who opened Britain's gates to all and sundry, irrespective of their compatibility with Western values:

And those who would aid and abet the demise of a once-great nation.  I wonder how many of these leftists and anti-nationalists also march against Israel.  A rather high proportion, I'd wager.

But as Europe again experiences Islamic Terror, will Europeans now be more sympathetic towards Israel?

Sadly, if the aftermath of 9/11 is anything to go by, I doubt it.

Meanwhile, some ready references from reader Mr Cohen:

*** QUOTES FROM THE KORAN ABOUT INFIDELS ***

Koran, chapter 4, paragraph 95:
Not equal are those believers who sit at home and receive no injurious hurt, and those who strive hard fighting jihad in Allah’s cause with their wealth and lives. Allah has granted a higher rank to those who strive hard fighting jihad with their wealth and bodies, above those who sit [at home]. Unto each Allah has promised good, but He prefers the jihadists who strive hard and fight above those who sit home. He has distinguished His fighters with a huge reward.

Koran, chapter 8, paragraph 12:
Your Lord inspired the angels with the message:
I will terrorize the unbelievers. Therefore smite them on their necks and every joint and incapacitate them. Strike off their heads and cut off each of their fingers and toes.

Koran, chapter 8, paragraph 39:
So fight them until there is no more fitnah [disbelief of non-Muslims] and all [people in the world] submit to the religion of Allah alone.

Koran, chapter 8, paragraph 59:
The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever weapons you can muster, so that you may terrorize them. They are your enemy and Allah’s enemy.

Koran, chapter 8, paragraph 65:
O Prophet, urge the faithful to fight. If there are 20 among you with determination they will vanquish 200. If there are 100 then they will slaughter 1,000 unbelievers, because the infidels are a people devoid of understanding.

Koran, chapter 9, paragraph 5:
Fight and kill the disbelievers wherever you find them, take them captive, harass them, lie in wait and ambush them using every stratagem of war.

Koran, chapter 9, paragraph 14:
Fight them and Allah will punish them by your hands, lay them low, and cover them with shame. He will help you over them.

Koran, chapter 9, paragraph 29:
Fight those who do not believe until they all surrender, paying the protective tax [jizya] in submission.

Koran, chapter 9, paragraph 123 :
Fight the unbelievers around you, and let them find harshness in you.

Koran, chapter 47, paragraph 4:
When you clash with the unbelieving infidels in battle, smite their necks until you overpower them, killing and wounding many of them. At length, when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind them firmly, making [them] captives. Thereafter either generosity or ransom (whichever benefits Islam) until the war lays down its burdens. Thus you are commanded by Allah to continue carrying out Jihad against the unbelieving infidels until they submit to Islam.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS
**********************************

Mohammed’s last words before he died:

“O Lord, kill the Jews and Christians.”

SOURCE: Hadith Malik, 511:1588

EXPLANATION: Islam teaches that Mohammed’s
later teachings take priority over his older teachings.
Therefore, the later the teaching, the greater it is.
Therefore, Muslims must believe that Mohammed’s
last words were his most important words.
Hadith is a major Islamic holy book, like the Koran.

QUOTE 2:

“Many Islamic practices, such as fasting, tithing, daily prayers, and profession of faith, have much in common with Christianity and Judaism. However, what makes Islam different from other religions is its call to kill and subjugate all other members of other faiths. The terrorist of today as well as imams in mosques throughout the world are calling for the deaths of millions of people around the world in the name of Islam. They are calling for jihad against the infidels, citing suras and verses from the Koran and Hadith to support their call to action.”

Westerners come from a Judeo-Christian background, where the teaching of faith centers on love, tolerance, and forgiveness. They do not understand that the sword of Islam represents hatred, intolerance, murder, and the subjugation of anyone not Muslim.

Blarney, BDS & Blood Libels (includes video)

At the weekend, Martin O'Quigley, head of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, explains why he's out on the streets of Dublin demonstrating against the proposed foundation of an Irish branch of the anti-islamisation organisation PEGIDA, dubbed by most of the press a "far right" organisation  (a label rejected by worried English feminist Anne-Marie Waters of UK Mothers against Sharia and the other founders of the British branch).

For O'Quigley the demo's something about being anti-Zionist and opposing all forms of racism, apparently, as well as dutifully opposing fascism.

The fact that fascism, which Europe defeated during the Second World War (a conflict in which the Irish Republic stood neutral, incidentally, even spitefully denying British ships port facilities during that life or death conflict with evil), is busily importing a new kind of fascism, is of course not part of the mindset of the Irish anti-"Islamophobia" crowd and more than it is of their British and Continental counterparts.

I hold no brief for PEGIDA.   But how strange it is that the fears of Ms Waters and other true feminists for the future of girls and women in a Europe of rapidly changing demographics are apparently not shared by the guys and gals of the "far left".

As reported here, among those joining in the Irish anti-PEGIDA protests are such far leftists as Sinn Féin, People Before Profit, the Workers Solidarity Movement.

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan said “we are standing shoulder to shoulder in solidarity to show that there is no place in Ireland today for racism and Islamophobia. There is no place for hate.”
Ms Boylan is a veteran of the anti-Israel movement: see, for instance, here  and here and here

"There is no place for hate" on the Irish Left, it seems, except where Israel is concerned.

President Higgins and friends
I have blogged several times about the anti-Israel cause in Ireland and how vicious seem its sentiments.

Here's another example,  these disgraceful assertions by Anna O'Leary, an Irish Israel-hater, telling Iran's Press TV that Israel is "a place that does not observe human rights".

Listen to her vile blood libels against Israel and her laughable remarks about "our values" (the "our" encompasses Iran, too, presumably!)

That O'Leary thinks it appropriate to give an interview to the satellite propaganda channel of one of the world's most notorious actual violators of the human rights of women and children, and indeed of males when they are gays or dissidents, while accusing Israel of the heinous things she does in the way she does speaks volumes about the nature and purpose of O'Leary in particular and the Irish BDS movement in general.

Oh, and as for Anne-Marie Waters, here she is in Copenhagen last month, castigating the pro-Islam lefty sisterhood heckling her there:

He's Not Wrong, Isi?

"....Muslim migrants who settled into enclaves in Europe have imported their hatred and formed unholy alliances with traditional anti-Semites and political leftists – including organizations purportedly promoting human rights – to foment an environment of Jew-hatred reminiscent of the 1930s, immediately prior to the rise of Nazism.

The ongoing influx of millions of Muslim refugees will massively reinforce the existing Muslim anti-Semitic elements and permanently alter the demographics of Europe. Unlikely to be reversed, it will enable Islam to become an immensely powerful political force in many West European countries.

The implications for European Jews are horrendous, as the combination of the prevailing virulently anti-Israeli public opinion and extremist Islamic political agitation will, in all likelihood, lead to even more extreme policies toward Israel. Despite lip service to the contrary, anti-Semitism will continue to thrive.
....
European Jews who fail to see the writing on the wall are simply living in denial...."

That's part of a must-read article by veteran international Jewish leader and Jerusalem Post columnist Isi Leibler.

And his warning's not only restricted to Europe, although it is, of course, in Europe that the danger is at its most imminent and potentially lethal.

Here's a small example of the Leftist-Islamist/"Muslims are the new Jew"s/"Islamophobia is the new antisemitism" mindset that manifested itself in Bradford this week; note the disgraceful pandering of the BBC's Nicky Campbell to "Mossad Stole My Shoe"'s nonsense.

The latest anti-Israel propaganda from the leftist BBC:

Here's one of the numerous manifestations of raw antisemitism that anyone can find on Facebook without really trying; it was posted by a woman whose Facebook friends includes such luminaries of the anti-Israel movement as Richard Falk and Antony Loewenstein.

Another sage passage regarding what's happening in Europe is quoted below.  It was made very recently by the splendid Sultan Knish, aka Daniel Greenfield (read the entire article!):
'....The left’s patronage of Islamic terrorists for its own political purposes follows a thread back to the origin of Islamic terrorism. Islamic violence against non-Muslims dates back to the founding of Islam, but the tactics of modern Islamic terrorism owe as much to Lenin as they do to Mohammed.....
Having learned nothing from the Hitler-Stalin pact, the left has replayed the same betrayal with the Mohammed-Stalin pact in the Middle East and now in the West. But the end of the Mohammed-Stalin pact will not be a Socialist totalitarian utopia, but an Islamic theocracy of slaves, terror and death....
The left has crippled domestic and international counterterrorism. American soldiers are not allowed to shoot terrorists and the FBI and NYPD can’t monitor mosques or even be taught what to look for. Islamic terrorism has achieved unprecedented influence and power under Obama. ISIS has created the first functioning caliphate and Iran marches toward the first Jihadist nuclear bomb. The mass Muslim migration is beginning a process that will Islamize Europe far more rapidly than anyone expects.
The Jihad would not be a significant threat without the collaboration of the left. Without the left standing in the way, it’s a problem that could be solved in a matter of years. With the aid of the left, it threatens human civilization with a dark age that will erase our culture, our future and our freedom.
We cannot defeat Islam without defeating the left. That is the lesson I learned on September 11. It is a lesson that appears truer every single year as the left finds new ways to endanger us all.'
Elsewhere (again, please read the entire article) Greenfield remarks:
'.... Liberal Jewish and Christian groups, alongside gay and feminist groups, vocally advocated for the entry of millions of Muslim migrants whose contempt for women's rights was only exceeded by their loathing for Christians, their seething hatred for Jews and their violent distaste of gays.
Gay, feminist and liberal Jewish and Christian groups worked overtime to fill their countries with the demographic most likely to commit hate crimes against them....
The left does not help women. The left only helps the left. Beneath the slick advertising, the artsy designs that lend the illusion of the personal to the impersonal and the touching video narratives is the soul of an ideological machine whose acolytes are trained to allocate empathy in tune with a rigid set of rules that are as inflexible as any Soviet commissar's handbook. The left is not in the business of caring, but of coordinating, and it exploits empathy to gain recruits only to mandate the things that they are allowed to care about in a coordinated ideological fashion....
As long as feminism remains a slave to the left, it will be responsible for causing more women to be beaten, assaulted and raped. And then it will cover up the crimes and use the victims to sell more red t-shirts.
As Cologne, where hundreds of women were assaulted in one day, reminds us, a feminism in thrall to the left is one of the biggest threats to women.'
A truism if ever I heard one.

And then there is the bizarre apologia for Islam that many Christians evince, as in this current example from an old friend of ours:

Our old friend's above post (and of course he is not to blame for her outbursts, though in all decency he really should de-friend her) has inspired at least one of his professedly Christian anti-Israel Facebook followers to spew the raw and repellent antisemitism in the form of vicious slurs against Judaism that has become her hallmark:

Make no mistake, empathy for Islam and contempt for Judaism is by no means uncommon among the anti-Israel Christian set nowadays.

That, despite all the ghastly horrors Christians are subject to in much of the Islamic world (see Raymond Ibrahim's numerous articles on the sufferings of Christians at the hands of Islamists.)

What a curious nexus it is.

Be careful of Taqiyya, Friends!

Blaming Eau de Cologne

Well, what a surprise.  A Salafist imam in Cologne has demonstrated his creed's odious attitude to women by blaming the plight of the Cologne rape victims on themselves:

'Speaking to major Russian channel REN TV, Imam Sami Abu-Yusuf’s remarks came during a 12 minute segment bringing Russians up to date with the latest developments in the migrant invasion of Europe.

Sandwiched between eyewitness-footage of migrant rampages in Cologne, women being sexually assaulted by apparently Arab gangs, and a segment on a surge of interest in self defence courses in Germany the Imam told the interviewer: “we need to react properly, and not to add fuel to the fire”.
Explaining in the view of Salafist Islam why hundreds of women found themselves groped, sexually assaulted and in some cases raped by gangs of migrant men in cities across Germany the Imam said: “the events of New Year’s Eve were the girls own fault, because they were half naked and wearing perfume. It is not surprising the men wanted to attack them. [Dressing like that] is like adding fuel to the fire”.
The tone of the report was telling, expressing no surprise that Muslim mass migration would result in violence and gang-rape. The narrator of the report told viewers that after the events of New Year’s Eve it was becoming difficult to tell who’s country Germany was, one belonging to Muslims or to Germans. Also expressed was the opinion that the sex attacks were no more than a dress rehearsal for something much bigger to come...'
Read more on this stinker here

Meanwhile,  there's at least one leftist German women's rights activist who, enraging some of the perverse elements in the sisterhood, has dared to lay the blame for the multiple sexual assaults on women in her own home town and elsewhere on New Year's Eve where it resides.

It's reported that Alice Schwarzer 'became a lightning rod for feminist [shouldn't that read "feminist"] and anti-racist anger after New Year’s Eve when she condemned the attacks on women as a “gang bang” designed to terrorize women.'

But she's unrepentant, as indeed she should be:
“Many feminists have remained silent from the outset regarding the problem of Islamist agitation, out of fear they will be accused of racism. It’s the old hierarchy of victims, that we already knew in [the student protests of] 1968. Then it was called class struggle before the battle of the sexes. Today it is called anti-racism against feminism.
It is unfortunately a fact that many of the so called ‘post-feminist’ Internet feminists who are for pornography and prostitution are in favor of the head scarf and even the burqa. They say this is all about the free choice of women...
[T]he crime scene on New Year’s Eve seems very strange, because in Germany we have never seen this before: mass sexual violence in public with a powerless police looking on. This is a whole new dimension.
I think this explosion of sexual violence on the same night in five countries and in a dozen cities is no coincidence. This is organized."
She went on:
I’m not talking about Muslims, or Islam as a faith. I’m talking about the politicization of Islam, the right-wing Islamism, whose banner is the veiling of women. This started in Iran in 1979 with Khomeini, and (elsewhere) it has been financed by Saudi Arabia. The Islamists firmly established themselves in Afghanistan and Chechnya (with introduction of Sharia law in 1994), Algeria (200,000 dead in the 1990s) and are now are arriving triumphant in the heart of Europe.
The Islamists have not only stirred up misogyny among young Muslim men towards women over recent years and decades, but I am also convinced the sexual violence of New Year’s Eve was provoked [by them]. There were a few hundred willing followers.”

"They Hate Israel Because They Hate Themselves"

'It isn't the Israelis who are paranoid it's anti-Israel Europeans.  They're the ones who madly look upon one nation, one people, as toxic, destabilising, destructive, out to get us all and do over world peace.  Such swirling paranoia often means that anti-Zionism crosses the lines into antisemitism.

Some Israelis I spoke to [recently] seemed more upset about the turn against Europe in Israel than they were about the more immediate threat posed by Islamists in the Middle East.

It wasn't hard to work out why.  As one said, "We considered Europe a friend"; "We thought Europe and Israel had a lot in common, being Western and democratic."

This cuts to the heart of the Euro-elites' paranoia about Israel, their turn against it; it is really European values, the ideals of modernity and democracy that they've given up on.

The thing that riles them most about Israel is that it reminds them of what they used to be like, of the values they once espoused, before they lost the moral plot and sank into the cesspit of relativism and post-Enlightenment self-loathing.

Plucky, keen to protect its sovereignty, considering itself an outpost of liberalism ... Israel is a painful reminder to today's anchorless European thinkers and agitators of what their nations once were.

They hate Israel because they hate themselves.

Israel has become the whipping boy of guilt-ridden Western liberals who've given up on the very idea of the West." [Emphasis added]

So wrote the Brendan O'Neill, editor of Spiked Online, in an admirably perceptive article in the London Jewish News late last year that was picked up by the Australian Jewish News.

This video, in which the Canadian writer/commentator Mark Steyn (how wonderful it used to be to read his regular columns in the UK Daily Telegraph back in the days when Conrad Black owned that newspaper) declares Multiculturalism as "the slipperiest of all isms," illuminates the loss of direction and purpose that's befallen and bedevils the West.

Bedevils the West and betrays its sons and (especially) its daughters, as well as generations yet unborn.

Some of the serfs, however, are getting restless.

Update, a well-deserved little dig at the feministas, although the use of the word "spastic" in this context is to be deplored: (hat tip Ian):

"The West Decides to Pretend That Radical Islam Doesn't Exist" (updated)

I like this astute and brave young American guy, Ben Shapiro.

Ben on BDS:

Ben on Leftist inconsistencies:

Ben on the Iran threat:

 Ben on the Islamic menace:

Yesterday, in relation to the latter problem confronting the West, and the all too common denial voiced by world leaders including Angela Merkel and Barack Obama, Ben Shapiro wrote, inter alia:
'Last year, there were 452 suicide terror attacks across the world. Four hundred and fifty of them were committed by Muslims. Last month, Muslims pledging allegiance to ISIS murdered 14 people in San Bernardino, California. Last week, thousands of Muslims around Europe, from Germany to Sweden to Switzerland, sexually assaulted hundreds of young women on New Year's Eve. Just days ago, a Muslim man shot a Philadelphia cop at point-blank range and declared that he did it in the name of Islam.
In response, Hillary Clinton declared, "Muslims are peaceful and tolerant people and have nothing whatsoever to do with Islam." ...The mayor of Cologne, Germany, told young women not to walk within "arm's length" of young Muslim men, and leftist commentators explained that the wave of sexual harassment resulted from some generalized, nonspecific religious patriarchal attitudes. The mayor of Philadelphia said that the attack on the police officer had nothing to do with "being a Muslim or the Islamic faith," and that instead, we ought to focus our attention on the pressing issue of gun violence ....
If the West keeps this up, there won't be any West of which to speak.
.... The West is far too powerful to lose to ISIS or radical Islam -- unless the West decides to pretend that radical Islam doesn't exist. In pathological fashion, that's just what our leaders have apparently decided to do.'
Read all of Ben Shapiro's piece here

Read, too, the comparable warning, from across the Herring Pond, of the prescient and courageous Douglas Murray in The Spectator that concludes:
'Later this month the House of Commons will discuss the urgent issue of Mr Trump. This is because last month Trump said that he wanted to stop Muslim immigration into the US and added that Britain and Europe have a serious Muslim extremism problem. Because of this more than half a million people signed a petition calling for Trump to be barred from Britain. This now has to be debated in Parliament and doubtless all those MPs who rarely do much about problems they could deal with will grandstand their opposition to a foreign politician who doesn’t care what they think. In the last week we have been reminded that the British government not only doesn’t know who is coming into our country, but doesn’t even know who is leaving either. Still, it’s all fine so long as we divert ourselves by talking Trump. Perhaps this will be the European habit for some time to come. Perhaps it will finally do for us.
Millions of people whose identities and beliefs are unknown have been let into our continent. Many who have been here for a few years continue to present challenges which are by no means minimal. There seems to be a belief that so long as we have got Katie Hopkins, Donald Trump or Tommy Robinson to kick around then we can focus our energies on ignoring the problem.
Of course all one can do is warn. But it seems to me that, if we keep distracting ourselves from the problem and beating up on every response to it, then this continent of ours is going to go very bad, very fast.'
Rest of Murray's article here

Oh, and by the way, I've come across an unpolitically correct gem of a video that puts the situation in a nutshell: "The fear to offend outweighs the will to survive".  It uses the mass assaults of German women as the peg on which to hang its warning about the bleak future facing Europe if things continue the way they are.  It makes uncomfortable viewing, but we ignore its inherent message at our peril.  Do take a look:

Europe: The Big Issue

The Big Issue, which draws attention to homelessness, unemployment, and related social issues, is a social initiative magazine in the UK that's sold on busy street corners and other well-populated hotspots up and down the country by and on behalf of "homeless and other socially vulnerable people".

In a small town in the UK that I livd in prior to returning to Australia, (drum roll: politically incorrect statements coming up) the magazine's sturdy young vendor, stationed a couple of days a week outside the local bank, was the very same  chap with the dyed yellow ponytail who'd often sit in the bank's doorway asking everyone who passed to spare him some change.  (Funnily enough, he always had money for hair bleach, liquor, and cigarettes.)

Anyway, not long after the admission of Romania into the European Community, a member of that country's Roma community, obviously newly arrived in Britain, muscled in his patch.

Within weeks the pony-tailed vendor was gone altogether, and then there were two Roma vendors, and finally three, two male and one female (well, two time-sharing females actually, the elder in an advanced state of pregnancy), stationed at key points in the High Street repeating mantra-like in fractured English: "Big Issue please".

Just round the corner, on the narrow pavement of  the street leading directly from the railway station, was the elderly matriarch of the group: partially blocking a shop window, she sat on a folding chair with a rug over her knees and a begging bowl at her feet, wishing everyone who passed an obviously insincere "Good morning."

Now, hawking a magazine critical of the socio-economic policy of a host country known for its generous welfare system as soon as you've reached its shores (and been granted accommodation in one of its council houses to boot) struck me as the height of chutzpah.  And the intimidating, intrusive presence of three Big Issue sellers where one had sufficed struck me as decidedly dodgy.

It evidently struck someone in authority as dodgy too, for one fine day all of them, plus their beggarly mother, were not in their accustomed spots, and were never seen again.

Still, I have nothing against the magazine itself, which undoubtedly performs a valuable social service, and whose contents are not without interest.  Indeed, one of its recent articles is very interesting indeed.   Written by Samira Ahmed, it observes inter alia:
'Polling here shows a large number of Britons, the majority even, are at best cautious about taking in refugees from Syria because of the fear of conservative Islamic attitudes. Some readers might want to dismiss this as a cover for racism, just as in the 1930s the Daily Mail warned of the “threat” of so many Jews coming from Hitler’s Germany.
But ... looking at gender opens up a legitimate question about how you build a strong and stable society. Where are all the women refugees? According to the latest UNHCR figures, 72 per cent of the numbers arriving in western Europe so far in 2015 are men, 15 per cent children and only 13 per cent women. A BBC World Service reporter a few days ago described on air the unease he and female colleagues felt when they tried to interview women refugees, only to be uniformly refused permission by their men.
So where ARE the women refugees? Some men will have planned to establish themselves and then bring families over safely. But talking to lawyers dealing with the influx of young male Afghan migrants here a decade earlier, it seems in many cases families spend money on the people they value most. And that’s not the women.
When we talk of compassion and doing the right thing in these humanitarian crises, perhaps we ignore gender at our peril.'
As the website Biased BBC points out, Ms Ahmed is a Muslim and a BBC broadcaster, yet the issues she raises do not appear to have been ventilated on the BBC.

This issue of gender is indeed a core one, but not the only example of the incompatibility of Islam with the essential core values of Western society, the values that make Europe what it is, values that, as this video shows, are scorned and spurned by a worrying part of the Islamic community in Germany.

In this video we meet Muslims who are in Germany but not of it, young Muslims who place sharia law above the German constitution.  We meet the school principal (Beate Altmann) who is exasperated with the situation, including the antisemitism voiced by Muslim children at her school.

There are children who justify the Charlie Hebdo murders, unapologetic upholders of male supremacy and the "honour" killings of women, youngsters of both sexes who cling to the Islamic belief that women are inferior to men, the property of their husbands, and obligated to obey the dictates of male family members..

We meet a third generation immigrant of Lebanese background who administers sharia law.  We meet followers of his who prefer his intervention in disputes to that of the police.

We meet a Christian refugee from Syria who has been threatened by Muslims in the very land in which he sought refuge and who is disgusted by the casual contempt for women shown.  And so on.

We meet a rabbi who despairs of Islamic antisemitism and, having experienced hate crime personally, as has his daughter, advises Jews in their best interests not to identify in public as such.

Non-assimilation and all that it entails.    This is the big issue confronting the entire West. To whet your appetite, this post is peppered with screengrabs I've taken from it.

Update: Here's Douglas Murray, speaking in Copenhagen on an aspect of Europe's Big Issue:

And Pat Condell, pointing out that Europe's ghastly bureaucratic elites are utterly failing women (and Jews) with the current Muslim invasion, and declaring that it's time the people of Europe claimed asylum from the EU:

An Egyptian Cleric On Europe's Demographic Doom (video)

Those who followed the 1970s mantra "Zero Population Growth" (see cover at left, dating to 1970) in order to save the planet from environmental disaster, and feminists who decided not to have children at all (frequently expressing contempt and/or pity for those women who did), have unwittingly cost Europe dear, if Muammar Gaddafi (see my post here) and the Egyptian cleric in this video are proved correct.

Not that it does to air anxieties about the Islamic demographic weapon (or even to base opposition to mass immigration into small already overcrowded countries like Britain and Holland on ecological grounds) in front of the kind of 1960s/70s radicals who spawned the "Zero Population Growth" mantra and child-free radical feminism.

Greyer, wrinklier, but certainly not invariably wiser, all too many are likely to have swapped their tie-dyed hippie T-shirts for keffiyehs and to be marching with the "We Are All Hezbollah/Hamas" brigade these days, and to call those who dare to question the colonisation of Europe by persons  (including practising polygamists taking advantage of state benefits) whose agenda is very different from a liberal-progressive and feminist one by the intimidating terms "Islamophobes" and "fascists".

"Palestinism Makes The Destruction Of Israel A Universal Duty"

In her must-read interview, to which I drew attention on my previous post, Bat Ye'or gives this salutary warning :

"Palestinism is a world policy initiated and imposed by the OIC [Organization of the Islamic Conference] and its Western allies that aims to transfer to Palestinian Muslims the history, and the cultural and religious heritage of the Jewish people. The origin of this belief is in the Koran which states that the Bible is a falsification and that the biblical figures, including Jesus and the apostles were all Muslim prophets who preached Islam. This theory suppresses Jewish and Christian history and legitimacy. Palestinism struggles to eliminate Israel and replace it by a Muslim Palestine since it is based on the Islamization of the Bible.

Palestinism is also a political and theological current working for the Islamization of Christianity by replacing its Jewish biblical roots by the Koranic interpretation of the Bible. The promoter of such theology is the Sabeel Christian Center in Jerusalem that teaches Christians the Islamic interpretation of the Bible.

Palestinism is at the base of the whole Eurabian construct, European dhimmitude and the submission of Western leaders. Palestinism encompasses all Western-Muslim relationships, this is the reason why the West has made the creation of Palestine and the destruction of Israel the most urgent topics of the planet.

This is also in obedience to the OIC who made of Palestinism/antisemitism the base of its policy with the West and its subjugation. Support for the Palestinians is the guarantee for Europe’s security. Westerners have paid billions of jizya (tribut) to the Palestinians as a protection from terrorism. The OIC obliges the West to deny Israel’s rights and adopt the Islamic conception of history where Jewish and Christian rights to their history and culture are denied as we have seen recently with the Islamization of the Hebrew Patriarch tombs in Hebron by UNESCO.

Palestinism makes the destruction of Israel a universal duty."

I guess that's what this chap is telling us, in a crude way.  I have to admit that I'm definitely not a fan of his - yes, much of what he says has merit, but he's so strident, so in-your-face, and he can come across almost as  an anti-Arab hate preacher, which I deplore.   But several people have asked me to post this.  It's appeared on other blogs, but in case you haven't seen it elsewhere, voilà!

Eurabia and the Recrudescence of Antisemitism

Recently, Berlin-based journalist Benjamin Weinthal, a Fellow of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, observed, in an article entitled “Dangers of Ignoring the contrasts in Euro hatreds," which appeared in last week's Jewish Chronicle, that

Eurabian Plights: A Scene in Brussels
‘It is now a commonplace in Europe to regard antisemitism and the more recent phenomenon, "Islamophobia", as much of a muchness. Yet there are important historical distinctions between the hatred of Jews and anti-Muslim prejudice. While European Muslims are without question subject to discrimination and violence, no reasonable observer could claim that they face the prospect of a Final Solution-style extermination plan....
Last month, Richard Herzinger, of the German daily Die Welt, neatly captured the wrongheadedness of Europe's new political conviction when he stated that "it is not 'Islamophobia' that is the antisemitism of the 21st century, but antisemitism."
Writing in Libération last November, the French philosopher Pascal Bruckner noted that the idea of Islamophobia originated in revolutionary Iran. In Bruckner's view, allegations of Islamophobia allow Islamic radicals to blunt criticism of extremist Islam and rationalise the rejection of secular Western values. In short, "Islamophobia" is a gagging order. But ... Bruckner and the few journalists and academics who question the rhetoric of Islamophobia are a minority.
Eurabian Plights: A Message from Copenhagen
The fact is, European societies have gone to great lengths to stifle any expression of anti-Islamic sentiment – even, some might say, at the expense of freedom of speech.
In 2008, for instance, the right-wing extremist Pro Cologne political party organised an anti-Islam conference. Thousands of demonstrators from all walks life took to the streets in protest against this "Stop Islam" event, prompting the city of Cologne to pull the plug on it.
By contrast, when four years earlier Walter Hermann set up his so-called ‘Cologne Wailing Wall’ exhibit – which includes a cartoon of a man wearing a Star-of-David bib and an American flag while devouring a Palestinian boy and holding a knife that bears the word "Gaza", alongside him a glass filled with blood – in Cathedral Square, the bustling pedestrian zone in the middle of the city, it was allowed to stand without protest.
Eurabian Plights: In Old London Town
.... Writing in the weekly Freitag, journalist Sabine Pamperrien recently described critics of the equating of Islamophobia with antisemitism as Winkeladvokaten –  loosely translatable as "shyster lawyers", a term that the Nazis used to degrade Jewish lawyers during the Third Reich.
The same description was applied to the German left-wing politician, Gregor Gysi, by an Austrian neo-fascist and convert to Islam, Robert Schwarzbauer, who specifically branded Gysi a "shyster lawyer of Zionism" for his efforts to combat his party's anti-Israeli platform.
A significant contrast between antisemitism and Islamophobia – which the merging of them dangerously ignores –  is that the former manages to bring together such uneasy bedfellows as radical leftists, fanatical Muslims and right-wing extremists.
.... German-Jewish philosophers Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer argued that the crimes of the Holocaust created such profound guilt among some Germans that they tend to ignore antisemitism, blame the Jews for the Holocaust, and hold Israel to moral standards they apply to no other country.
A University of Bielefeld survey last year found that 57 per cent of Germans questioned agreed with the statement that "Israel is conducting a war of extermination against the Palestinians".
Conflating antisemitism with anti-Muslim thinking may serve as a release for German guilt. But it has dangerous consequences for European Jews and undermines the legitimate fight against radical Islamic terrorists who threaten Europeans of all faiths and backgrounds.’
I can think of other reasons why conflating antisemitism and “Islamophobia” is invalid. Jews, who have have been part of European society for over a millennia, have always abided by the tenet that “The Law of the Land is the Law,” have never allowed their religious beliefs and observances to encroach upon the public domain, do not proselytise, and needless to say there is no equivalent of Jihad in Judaism. The "new antisemitism" of the nineteenth century –  the rise of political antisemitic movements culminating in the obscenity of Nazism – was predicated on the perception of Jews as agents of modernity, whereas "Islamophobia" is predicated on the perception of Muslims as agents of pre-modernity.  And of terror.

It’s a cardinal principle of democratic societies that all citizens – no matter what their religion or ethnicity – must be subject to a single corpus of law: the same law must govern all. When Jews, who established a surreptitious communal presence in England during Tudor times, broke cover during the Cromwellian Protectorate and successfully requested toleration, which they did also following the restoration of the monarchy in 1660, there was no question that they would be exempt from the legal system of England and Wales.  To be sure, there are religious courts – batei din – that determine certain issues in accordance with Jewish law (Halakhah) but these function within the framework of religion – and in no way impinge upon the public sphere or rival the law of the United Kingdom.

In Britain and in other pluralistic democracies, religion is a matter of private conscience; it does not equate with citizenship, nor with nationality. The Church of England may still be the Established Church, but apart from the requirement that monarchs and their spouses, must belong to it, the days when members of other faiths were impeded by their non-Anglicanism from participating equally in public life, have long gone. Nonconformists and Roman Catholics were emancipated in the 1820s, and Jews finally won the right to sit in Parliament in 1858. Jews could already serve as municipal office-holders and as commissioned officers in the armed services, and all impediments to their civic equality had gone by 1891.

The situation on the Continent was different. There, Jews faced specific discriminatory and disabling legislation that had not existed across the Channel since the reign of Edward the First (who of course expelled all Jews from his realm in 1290). On the Continent, Jews had to win freedom from compulsory ghettos and from draconian debarring laws in order to take their places as citizens.

Before Napoleon would grant citizenship to the Jews of France, their leaders had to satisfy him that they deserved it – they had to demonstrate that their beliefs and practices were commensurate with modernity. For example, he required – and obtained – their assurances that they did not practice polygamy and animal sacrifices, and that they felt an overwhelming loyality to France. (What would he make of this video, I wonder!)

On Sunday, in handing over the reins of the Front National to his daughter Marine, that crude old racist, Jean-Marie Le Pen, could not resist an antisemitic jibe about a Jewish reporter who’d complained about being ejected from the party’s gala dinner, beaten, and racially abused. Racism, as in that case, from the French Right, has a long tradition extending back to the ultramontain anti-Dreyfusards and to Charles Maurras and Action Française.

Not that the French Left have been any better – witness their constant baiting in the National Assembly and in their press (with insults such as “dirty tolerated alien”) of the haute bourgeois René Mayer (1895-1972; pictured), a pro-American industrialist and banker related by marriage to the Rothschilds, who was Prime Minister of France in 1953, a director of Air France, a champion of the colons of Algeria, and – though very much an assimilated, patriotic Frenchman – loyal to Judaism (his grandfather was Grand Rabbin of Paris) and involved in Jewish communal affairs.

Now, of course, French Jews, like Jews elsewhere in Europe, are so intimidated by Islamic hate-mongers that they’re leaving the country in droves.
http://challahhuakbar.blogspot.com/2011/01/jews-are-leaving-europe-why.html

In an article in a recent issue of the London Daily Mail, that fearless – I could almost add “peerless” – journalist Melanie Phillips, author of that alarming window on the growth of militant Islam in present-day London, Londonistan, reiterates yet again the alarming degree of islamisation that is taking place in Britain with the apparent connivance of a supine government (driven, as I blogged this week, by anti-Israel weaklings within the Foreign and Commonwealth Office).

“Because our political and security establishment has defined extremism as involving violence, it is blind to the steady process of Islamisation that is taking place”, she writes. “Astonishingly, it is tolerating – and even encouraging - the relentless incursion of Islamic religious law. Yet this is inimical to British values – and not just because it denies the human rights of women, homosexuals or anyone who wants to renounce Islam.”

For, she continues, Islam
“does not recognise the superior authority of the law of the land, against which it therefore asserts itself.
.... [B]lind eyes are being turned to Sharia courts meting out not just family law judgments that oppress women, but even criminal sanctions, too.... [T]here has been ... an enormous growth of Islamic banking - despite the fact this serves as an umbrella for the financing of Islamic terrorism and is a vehicle for putting yet more pressure on British Muslims to subject themselves to Sharia law.
Almost every week, more examples surface of the way in which British culture is giving way to Islamic practices. As a recent BBC Panorama programme demonstrated, some Muslim schools are teaching their pupils to hate ‘unbelievers’ – all under the nose of Ofsted.
And a growing number of education authorities serve halal meat to all pupils – without even informing the public of this minority faith practice [Incidentally, halal meat was also served to an unsuspecting House of Commons!]. London hosts three Muslim TV channels — all with ties to fanatical Islamic organisations or regimes.
In short, Britain is being steadily Islamised – and the establishment appears paralysed like a rabbit caught in the headlights.
Four years ago in my book, I delivered a warning. A country that can’t even bring itself to name the nature of the enemy it faces will be defeated by that enemy.
The Stockholm bomber is but the latest export from Londonistan - and unless the Government gets up off its knees and changes its disastrous strategy, I very much fear he will not be the last.’

But there’s an added problem. For as J. R. Dunn observed in American Thinker
http://www.americanthinker.com/2006/03/prospects_of_terror_an_inquiry_1.html

‘Europe is vulnerable. It abuts directly against ancient Muslim homelands at several points, has a substantial and unintegrated Muslim population, has offered active Jihadis sanctuary within its borders, has pursued reckless immigration and security policies, and has supped with the Devil through its open support of Saddam Hussein (paid for with Iraqi oil funds) and Muslim terror organizations such as Al Fatah and Hamas.
Many observers believe it’s already too late, that Europe is one with Sumeria and Byzantium, that all that remains is the funeral procession. They point to the numbers of native births – below replacement level of 2.1 children per couple in almost every country—compared to those of Muslim immigrants, which are two to three times higher, and echo Bernard Lewis’s now-famous prediction, “Europe will be Muslim by the end of the century.”
Europe in also unfortunate in that its overall government, the European Union, has established itself, in defiance of the experience of the past century, as the kind of managerial superstate proven unfeasible just about everywhere else on earth.’
Ironic, isn’t it? Napoleon had to be certain that Jews did not pursue polygamy or other practices at odds with modernity – yet in Europe today, such practices by Muslims are allowed.

In Britain, any non-Muslim married to more than one wife would be charged with bigamy if found out – but, so long as he contracts polygamous unions in countries in which polygamy is lawful, a Muslim may bring his multi-wives to the UK. And they’ll receive state benefits into the bargain! Moreover, the tolerance of "arranged marriages"  – something that the dhimmitudinous, Londonistan-loving British Ambassador Frances Guy enthused about in her speech last year at the Beirut Arab University, to which I referred in my penultimate post –  has resulted in the immigration to Britain of many Muslims from conservative, reactionary societies, and the consequent negation in the raising of their offspring of the influence of their British marriage partners of more "anglicised" mores.

These are the perilous realities of Europe's unrestrained "multiculturalism", driven by the EU elites but not by the populace.

And Jews and Israel are prominent among the losers.
