An Israeli's Message to Mark Zuckerberg

Raped. Tortured. Murdered.  For being a Jew.

"An Open Letter to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook".

It's prompted me to add this link to a brand-new article by a non-Jewish Sorbonne scholar, the courageous and prescient Guy Millière, regarding the plight of French Jewry at the hands of hate-filled antisemites.

I have used Facebook for years as a platform to share my thoughts, comments and articles. I value that platform because of its global reach.  It connected me to some of my friends in France, the USA, UK, Canada, Australia and many other countries. It is a window to the world to differing opinions by allowing me to see what my friends think and share on their walls.It gives me an outlet to speak my mind and to share my thoughts on topics ranging from domestic politics to the Arab-Israeli conflict.

However, I have observed that your social media has reached a point of violent antisemitism, at least for me, and I guess many other people too. I am appalled by Facebook’s insistence to allow this on social media.  I cannot believe that a group that calls for the death of the Jews, your own people for that matter, does not violate Facebook’s “Community Standards.” Do you realize how dangerous your media has become allowing the antisemites of the world to vomit their hate on Israel with lies?

I am disgusted that Facebook not only calls this group socially acceptable, but it endangers the lives of our brothers, our families, our children, and more importantly, our people as a whole.

Free Speech should not be Hate Speech.

We all know too well that allowing such a negative behavior only encourages the killing of Jews as we have seen it lately when Facebook users that were anti-Zionists and posting anti-Jewish posts assassinated innocent people in France, Israel or elsewhere.

As a Jew, I was taught to stand up for Justice and truth against anyone not matter his faith or ethnicity.  We Jews have been standing in front line for thousands of years, defending, protecting and teaching human rights.

As we celebrate Pesach, we all retell the story of our journey from bondage to freedom when we were slaves in Egypt reading the Haggada. Not only to ourselves but to our children and the future generations. It has been this way for 3000 years.

You were quoted coming to the defence of Muslims after the November 2015 Paris attacks “As a Jew, my parents taught me that we must stand up against attacks on all communities. Even if an attack isn’t against you today, in time attacks on freedom for anyone will hurt everyone.  So I wonder Mr.Zuckerberg have you forgotten or ignored your statement that all of us should “stand up against attacks on all communities?” Maybe you do not even know about the double standards applied to Jews and Palestinians on Facebook?

The latest violence in Gaza sponsored by Hamas has launched a virulent anti-Israel campaign on Facebook against Israel and therefore the Jews in general.  I remember you said last year on your Facebook page: 

”For me, the most important tradition is to remember that we will not be truly free until every person is free”.

I am asking you a simple question, are you really free?  If you do not support your people. I believe you are still in Egypt and you have not yet escaped it morally.

You also said that you believe in free speech but at the same this free speech turns out to be a highway for free hate.

Why I am saying this is because my account has been suspended 3 times (30 days each time). Every comment I posted in favor of Israel, your automated response said i was violating Facebook community standards.

In fact, I believe my account was reported to Facebook by anti-Israel trolls and your moderators in Morocco or Pakistan did not hesitate a second to suspend my account.

In France, rumors abound that Facebook's moderators are located in French-speaking Muslim countries such as Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco which explains why most critics of hamas, Islam and political Islam are censored by Muslim moderators who support Hamas.

Notably, Muslim hate-speakers continue to proliferate on Facebook, while anti-Islamists face harassment and the loss of their accounts.

My comments were not offensive but true but based on facts. Some examples:

·        Hamas is using children as Human shields,

·        14 of the 16 killed in Gaza were Hamas terrorists,

·        Israel has the right to defend itself…and so on

And every time, I get the same answer” your behavior is not allowed on Facebook by violating Facebook Community Standards”

Facebook  is dealing with some serious contradictions of promoting free speech while running the world’s biggest social network, after being called out on the gap between his words and Facebook policy.

Since the violent Palestinian protest in Gaza last week, antisemitism has reached peaks that it was not touching since World War II.

I reported hundreds of times the violent and antisemitic hate speech posted on Facebook that should be considered against your Community Standards.

Every time I get the same answer: It does not violate our standards. 

It does violate a standard. My moral standard.

It is my duty to write a comment that expose facts about Israel.

For this reason, I am writing this letter to you in hope that you read it well and understand why I cannot accept the existence of Facebook pages that incites hatred against the Jews or any other religious/ethnic minority.

The antisemites who abound on Facebook post the same hatred that led the Jewish people to the gas chambers.

This group spews the same hateful propaganda that targeted a minority population to carry out a systematic genocide against the Jews in Europe. Are you conscious of that?

No Hate Speech on Facebook, unless it’s against the Jews, of course!

This is not the first time that Facebook chooses to take sides. I have reported several pages over the last five years only to get the same answer from Facebook staff.

This group produces the same vile hatred that has persecuted your people for millennia under the false premises that the Jewish people are the cause of all of the world’s problems.

I think Facebook has a moral obligation to stop giving antisemites a voice and an outlet to call for murdering Jews and comparing Israel to Nazi Germany. It is unacceptable for a social media as important as yours to allow such blatant Jew-hatred, or any hatred for that matter.

I reported pages inciting against Jews and received a message from Facebook staff saying that “ it was not in violation of Facebook rules.” Wait a minute! I thought that violence and hatred against anybody was to be reprimanded.

I speak for the millions of Jews who are scared to death to stand up for their people, to stand up for Israel, and to stand up for their right to self-determination on Facebook, in part because of antisemitic Facebook users like these that fester such undeniably antisemitic opinions and claim that the man responsible for killing six million Jews was “right” all along.

As a Jew, you can’t ignore the hateful rhetoric against Jews that has always been rampant on Facebook for decades.  Or perhaps it just doesn't matter to you?

The majority of what I see is dishonest criticism of Israel
•        Critics who habitually single out Israel for condemnation while ignoring far worse actions by other countries (especially other Middle Eastern countries) are antisemitic.•        Likening Israel to Nazi Germany or to traditional anti-Jewish stereotypical behavior is another sure sign of Jew-baiting.•        Attacks on the merits of Israel's existence rather than individual government policies are antisemitic.

Dr Martin Luther King Jr put it this way when he was approached by a student who attacked Zionism, When people criticize Zionists, King said, they mean Jews. You're talking antisemitism.

If you read this letter, I hope that you take my words to heart and do the courageous thing. Do the humane thing. Do the right thing.

·        Remove all Facebook pages that call for the death of Jews, Israelis(or Zionists).

·        Remove all articles from media like Al-Jazeera, TeleSUR, RT, MintPress News, Middle East Eye, Sydney Morning Herald, BBC, The Guardian, Le Monde, Le Figaro, Courrier international, Le Nouvelobs, Le Parisien and others that promotes hatred against Israel and the Jews.

The time has come where our people need to be united as one. Our people need to come together and support one another.

I urge you, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook to respond the call and stand as a proud Jew against the blatant Jew-hatred that has plagued us for millennia and has only gotten stronger in the last few weeks.

You can file complaints on Facebook’s Help Center and you don’t have to be Jewish, Muslim, Christian or anything else for that matter. You just have to be a proponent of truth, justice, fairness and accountability for all mankind. If we don’t say anything, we have no right to complain when Israelis are getting stabbed to death on the streets of Israel or French Jews machine gunned in a Kosher supermarket or Mireille Knoll, the 85-year-old Jewish Holocaust survivor who was murdered in her apartment.

Mark Zuckerberg, Give yourself a chance to leave Egypt and be closer to your people, if you claim to be Jewish.

If you need any persuading that antisemitism pervades sections of the anti-Israel movement, you have only to look (for samples and leads) at the disgraceful material that infests this incorrigible activist's Facebook wall.

 Matt Carr, a UK-based pro-Palestinian activist, has to his credit drawn attention to, and blasted, the existence of the antisemitism that blights the anti-Israel movement.

 He has written, inter alia:

"[T]he fact that antisemitism is used as an instrument of Israeli propaganda and political manipulation doesn’t mean that it doesn’t exist.  I was reminded of its existence by some of the tweets and comments in response to a piece that I wrote about Netanyahu’s appearance in the US Congress, which was posted on the Stop the War UK Facebook site yesterday [5 March].

 One linked to former KKK leader David Duke.   

Another posted a cartoon of a hook-nosed evil-looking Jew holding the United States dog by the reins.

 Yet another referred to the ‘masonic-zionist’ conspiracy to control the world – just a slight and not very convincing tweak of the old ‘masonic-Jewish’ conspiracies of old.

There were a number of references to ‘zionazis’ and the Rothschilds.  One commentator suggested that ISIS had been created by ‘IsraeZionist Rothschilds’ in order to kill ‘innocent Muslims.’.

Obviously  these comments don’t represent the official position of STWUK [Stop The War UK]...   But they are nevertheless another expression of  a very real phenomenon that has far more to do with hatred of Jews that [sic; i.e. than] any concern with Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians.   The spikes in attacks on Jewish synagogues and cemeteries and other antisemitic incidents in recent years may have accompanied Israel’s wars in Gaza, but attacking Jews because they are Jews is not an expression of solidarity with anyone.

It’s no good saying that Israel is partly responsible for this ‘confusion’, because it identifies itself so closely with Jews internationally.  We don’t – well most of us don’t – hold all Muslims responsible for the actions of ISIS or al-Qaeda or even Saudi Arabia for that matter, so Jews should not be held collectively responsible for what Israel does.  It’s that kind of thinking, at its worst extreme,  that led Mohammed Merah to shoot a Jewish schoolgirl and Amedy Coulibaly to target a Jewish supermarket. [Emphasis added]

And please don’t ask me to believe that these murders were the result of some misplaced anger about the injustices perpetrated against Palestinians in Gaza.   If you care about Gaza there are a thousand things you can do that don’t require murdering Jews.  It’s one thing to criticize Israel’s brutal [sic] treatment of the Palestinians, but that doesn’t mean that Israel is a Nazi state.  It doesn’t mean that Israel is responsible for every act of mayhem in the Middle East.   It doesn’t even mean that Israel is uniquely evil and monstrous.   Many states have behaved better than Israel.  But there are also states that have behaved worse and do behave worse.'

An Appalling Advertising Outlet For A Respectable Aussie College

The Chisholm Institute is a respected provider of further education in Australia.  Imagine my friend's surprise, then, when he clicked on a Facebook link and was confronted with the following:

 How appalling that a respectable and respected institution should be (against its will or knowledge I have no doubt) featured in an ad on such a page.  My friend assumes he is seeing this ad because the fact that he attended a similar college to Chisholm appears in his Facebook profile.

Still Intact: The CUFP that runneth over with poison

The arch-antisemitic Facebook group Christians United for Peace (CUFP), proving how geographically and historically challenged they are:

I've provided plenty of other examples in the past (see here, for instance) of the CUFP that runneth over with antisemitic poison.

Now, some people might argue that it is better that these antisemites are permitted to continue unimpeded, in order that we know what exactly passes through their minds.

Other people will, if course, argue that such filthy lies as contained in the examples I've given here and elsewhere are akin to Nazi propaganda and, being likely to infect with the virus of Jew-hatred large numbers who come in contact with them, should be removed.

In any case, people can be forgiven  for wondering why the CUPF's still intact on Facebook when so many "hate sites" have been taken down.

Inter alia by Australian cartoonist Larry Pickering (who has narrowly escaped a total ban from Facebook himself) in "The Pickering Post" today (hat tip: A Concerned Reader):

'.... Hundreds of Google sites and Facebook pages have been shut down by a well-organised group purporting to be against “hate speech” and citing anti-Jewish speech as their main aim. Funny, but it seems only sites containing the words “Islamic”, “Muslim” and “Jihadist” are being removed while facebook sites that pay for “likes” are allowed to remain.

 This Islamic group, which is reported to involve Getup finance, has devised a program that floods Google and facebook with hundreds of co-ordinated complaints about the one article. Google and facebook bots (robots) automatically react to delete the post and either suspend or cancel the site....

"It seems those of us who are against the Islamisation of Australia have a fight on our hands." ....'

Sentiments On The Sydney Siege

At the time of writing, the Sydney siege is still in progress, and an Islamic flag can still be seen in the window of the Lindt Café where it is taking place, despite the fact that the lights have been turned off for the night. There is no information regarding the identity of the perpetrator (it would seem, from television reports, that he uses a human shield, seemingly female, when he passes windows, that he barked out his demands via two females hostages forced, at different times, to a Channel Nine reporter, and that he is acting alone).

[Update: culprit was Man Haron Monis, granted asylum to Australia in 2001 ... a vile antisemitic ndividual who was out on bail despite facing 40 charges of sexual assault! An accessory to the murder of his wife, he had sent poisonous letters to the families of dead Aussie servicemen - hand-delivered at the funerals! The two persons killed.   Wikipedia has wasted no time in writing him up. This is believed to be his Twitter page. See also my next post.]

But what his demands are have not been divulged by the station on instructions by police.  To date, five hostages have managed to escape.  How many remain is unclear. [Two hostages dead, along with the gunman; four injured.]

On social media, a number of leftists who also happen to be dedicated anti-Israel activists have posted conspiracy theories regarding the identity of the hostage-taker.  There's a marked reluctance to accept that he's a Muslim.  One leftist suggests that he is "a Christian fundamentalist" seeking to pin the blame on Muslims, some allege a political ploy by Tony Abbott to demonise Muslims and win popularity: that sort of thing.  I haven't seen any allegations that it is the work of Mossad, or the CIA, but given the intensity of Far Left antisemitism anti-Zionism on there, I wouldn't be at all surprised if such messages come, or have already been posted.

All that seems to be known for sure about the perpetrator is that he's a middle-aged man wearing a headband bearing Arabic writing (saying “We are your soldiers O Muhammad” according to some reports), that he is carrying a backpack, that he is armed, and that he forced two terrified female hostages to display the black Islamic flag in the window. A Muslim leader who is being interviewed as I write describes the use of the flag, with its legend that the only god is Allah and Mohammed is his prophet, as "blasphemous" in the circumstances.  He points out that it's not certain as this stage that the perpetrator is a Muslim.

Channel Nine and other television channels I've seen today appear to be bending over backwards to assert that Muslims in Australia generally are not involved in this incident and that they deplore it.  They are denouncing "Islamophobia" and talking up the "I will ride with you" hashtag.

And there's this.

On the other hand, the Sydney Daily Telegraph issued, this afternoon, this unsqueamish edition (pictured), and editor Piers Akerman wrote this no-holds-barred article.  No political correctness there, obviously.

All fine and dandy, eh?

But wouldn't it be great if the Online Hate Prevention Institute would (perhaps with the aid of the Muslims for whom it has gone into bat) exert itself in getting Facebook to remove some of the truly despicable antisemitic pages that still defile it.

Pages such as this and the page which produces outright racism:

But Facebook (so far) refuses to exorcise it.

The vile Facebook page containing this, along with many other antisemitic cartoons (most attributed a Ben Garrison; but see a reader's comment below) that are reminiscent of the depravity peddled by such infamous judeophobes as Edouard Drumont with his La Libre Parole and Julius Streicher with his Der Stürmer, has been in operation only since 24 January.  In that short time it has managed to amass over 700 "Likes" (727 at the time of writing).

It has been reported for the hate-site it is by a growing number of disgusted people.  Among them is the indefatigable Shirlee Finn, who's no stranger to readers of my blog, and who herself blogs here.

Shirlee took the trouble to report every single one of the despicable posts on the despicable Facebook page in question.

She has been informed that, having carried out a review, Facebook sees no reason to take the page down.

Shirlee, who's since written Facebook a well-deserved "stinking" riposte, is so incensed that she is thinking of contacting the media about this.

I'm not surprised.

That Facebook sees nothing objectionable about the page beggars belief, and leaves a sickening feeling in the pit of the stomach.

Perhaps they have been swayed by the absurd introductory note at the top of the page:

If such a piece of excrescence doesn't meet Facebook's criteria for offensiveness, what does?

And what does this say not only about Facebook's moral compass, but its commonsense?

"Don't Let The Zionist Divide Us!": A strange call from Christians

Thanks to the kindness of a reader in London I'm now in possession of the Church of England newspaper editorial of 17 January, some of which so evidently irritated the anti-Zionist head of the Christian NGO Embrace the Middle East (see my post here).

Headed "Anti-Semitism on the rise in Europe", it's a robust editorial which, since it's now archival, and such a contrast to the toxin spewed out by some Christians regarding Israel, I feel compelled to reproduce in toto.

The editorial was, of course, written over a week prior to the disgraceful, despicable scenes witnessed in Paris on Sunday (see here) but is relevant to those scenes nonetheless:

'Fans flock to French comic Dieudonné on social media’ we are told by the BBC’s Georg Lentze of the BBC Social Media Monitoring Unit. Dieudonné has several convictions for anti-Semitic hate speech in France, and his very popular shows have recently been banned for this reason. All forms of social media are showing real spikes of interest and favour, YouTube, Facebook ‘likes’, tweets, a TV channel, all register enormous popularity. He unites the poor immigrant Muslim youth and the anti-immigrant National Front bloc. He taps into the growing anti-politics feeling rising in Europe. Dieudonné operates with a subtle ambiguity, as the New Yorker’s Alexander Stille reported: of a distinguished French Jewish journalist Dieudonné said: “When I hear him speak, Patrick Cohen, I say to myself, you see, the gas chambers … too bad.”

 The meaning is clear, the grammar broken up to gain deniability. He has developed a cynical inversion of the Nazi salute that has gained such traction as to have been used at a Premiership football match to bait Jewish fans. The French authorities are concerned and trying to suppress the activities of this ‘comedian’ and activist, but that suppression stokes a victim image and social media popularity.

 Hatred of Jews is now popular in France again, and barely 60 years after 1945. Dieudonné plans to use his Human Rights to free expression to overturn government bans on his very lucrative shows. The bitter irony is that the mass murder of the Holocaust was the driver for the UN Declaration of Human Rights. Dieudonné himself is a ‘holocaust denier’. In the UK there is a growing movement to boycott the state of Israel by academics who think that Israel is guilty of repressing Palestinians. The University and College Union of lecturers had invited Bongani Masuka, someone found guilty by the South African Human Rights Commission of anti-Semitic hate crimes, to speak at their conference, and the UCU Annual Congress voted against dissociating itself from his views. UCU refused to accept the definition of anti-Semitism drawn up by the EU Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia. A Jewish academic, Ronnie Fraser, felt harassed by the UCU’s action and complained of anti-Semitism to a Tribunal, which denied his complaint.

The Tribunal likened Fraser to a rugby player who was asking to be bashed and bruised in such a game, and so was entitled to a low degree of legal protection – an astonishing argument. The Church of England is also perilously close to adding respectability to his movement, as the Sunday Programme debate between Lucy Winkett and Alan Johnson showed: fashionable St James’ Piccadilly protested at the protective wall around Bethlehem, Johnson argued this protest ignored the realities of the context. Christians should beware of singling out Israel for protest, the Israel – Palestine spat, like Northern Ireland, is just one of many contested areas in the world, and the rising tide of hatred of the Jews is a toxic movement to make fashionable – again.'

Just how toxic a movement can be seen in a number of avowedly Christian sites, including pages on Facebook.

Regular readers of this blog may recall my post here drawing attention to the truly heinous rantings and ravings of a heavy-duty antisemitic Facebook page calling itself "Christians United for Peace", which wallows in medieval-like lies concerning Jewish beliefs and practices.

Earlier this week, as a result of sustained pressure brought to bear on Facebook by concerned individuals and groups, the egregiously misnamed "Christians United for Peace" page was removed from Facebook.

Today, however, the page was back up, with its previous nonsense intact, and spewing out its customary venom against Jews, Judaism and its texts, Israel and Zionism in such new posts as these  (which like most if not all of the posts attract breathtakingly antisemitic comments from the site's avowedly Christian followers):

 

But this odious Facebook page  is not the only avowedly Christian one that specialises in invective that crosses the line into antisemitism.

Similar group pages, including that belonging to Christian Friends of Palestine, are  riddled with antisemitic posts from avowed Christians, posts such as these gems from an American with a Spanish-sounding name.

First:

Of all the people on planet Earth, the ones I love and respect most are the Palestinians!!!

Under any period of Human History on Earth there had been such brave and heroic people such as the Palestinians.

The entire Satanic Zionist world turned against them and there they are, without army, without weapons, without electricity, water etc... but they are steadily standing against the mightiest zionist countries of the world.

They don't need any super powers to support them!!! They already have the mightiest one on their side. They have God on their side!!!

Second, regarding the photo of a huge mass demonstration he’d posted:

This is not Egypt,

It is not Syria,

It is not Greece...

This is Spain and you won't see this in your News Channels because the Spanish Government is helping the Zionist Jooish Banks on behalf of the spanish population.

The Zionist Jooish Media keeps silent on this as long as the Government acts accordingly and in favor to Zionist rules!!!

Third, regarding Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper and former Australian prime minister John Howard:

If you still believe we live in a democratic western world, you are then just as fucked up as these poor bastard leaders reading a peach [i.e. speech] ordered by their masters the Zionist Jooz Of PissraHell.

Fourth, regarding Hitler:

He was a filthy Zionist Joo himself. Don't take me wrong.

I need you to drop the way of thinking all of us been programmed to think to be able to understand what I'm going to say.

What Hitler did to the Joos is called Collateral Dammage.

One recurrent theme that runs through many of these sites is this one, the profile picture of Christian Friends of Palestine:

Strange, isn't it, how, despite the ruthless persecution of their co-religionists by Islamists in the Middle East, avowed Christians – and as we are only too aware, they include many (like the church authorities who enlisted the aid of Interpal in sponsoring the Piccadilly replica "Wall") who are unconnected with these dodgy Facebook groups – seek to make common cause with Islam by scapegoating Jews Zionists?

So, Will The BDSers Boycott Facebook?

Bad news for the BDSers.  It's just been announced that Facebook has

"acquired Onavo, a three-year-old start-up that makes data compression software and offers a variety of analytic services for smartphone applications.The purchase of Onavo, which has about 40 employees, gives Facebook, the world’s biggest social networking company, its first office in Israel. 

Most of Facebook’s employees work at its headquarters in Menlo Park, California, and historically, the company has sought to pull workers at acquired companies into the mother ship. But Onavo cut a deal to keep most of its employees in Tel Aviv as part of the sale, which was for about $120 million, according to a person familiar with the terms.

The big draw for Facebook is Onavo’s pioneering data compression technology, which helps smartphones cut data consumption as much as 80 percent. Such compression is vital to the goals of Internet.org, an organization started by Facebook’s chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, in August that is trying to offer mobile Internet access free or at very low cost to the about four billion people globally who do not have it....

 Guy Rosen, co-founder and chief executive of Onavo, said that his company would largely function as a stand-alone entity, much like two previous Facebook acquisitions, Instagram and Parse. So, will the BDSers boycott Facebook? After all, to be true to themselves they really should.

No, of course they won't.  Hypocrisy is integral to the BDS movement, whose members couldn't do without so many Israel-originating technological (and medical) innovations we all take for granted.

Besides, they're having too much fun on Facebook spreading their poison against Jews (sorry, Zionists) and Israel and, yes, promoting the Boycott obscenity any way they can.

Two Pictures That Say "Death To Israel"

Second, on a poster to mark "Palestine Land Day" (which has been marked each 30 March since the mid-1970s); the tell-tale sentiment is, of course, contained in that graphic, which anticipates the eradication of the Zionist Entity root and branch.

And talking of pictures, there are at the time of writing some antisemitic ones on Facebook here (hat tip: reader Shirlee) although an especially shocking one, which showed a pile of bodies of victims of the Shoah, accompanied by a despicable "jocular"caption, appears to have vanished.

If enough people protest that page, it will surely be removed.

"No Israel=No War" & Other Judeophobic Filth: The Ugly Side Of Facebook

The Australia-based Online Hate Prevention Institute (OHPI), founded this year and headed by Dr Andre Oboler, has drawn Facebook's attention to a number of loathsome Jew-hating images posted by users on the site, images which for some unfathomable reason Facebook denies are antisemitic, and consequently allows:

 "OHPI recently reported a number of antisemitic images to Facebook using the regular reporting facility available to all users. Every one of our reports was swiftly reviewed and swiftly rejected.

Facebook is making a serious effort to respond faster to complaints, but this is meaningless if the response is to invariably reject the complaints. There is also no appeal and we have no details of any internal review process – if there is one, Facebook is welcome to share details to reassure us."

These reported images fall into several categories identified by the OHPI:

Mocking victims of the Holocaust ("Whats that burning? Oh it's my family" is superimposed upon a photograph of a smiling Anne Frank);

Promoting blood libel ("No Israel=No War" appears below two other lines, one in Arabic, on an image of a baby awaiting its turn to go through a meat grinder embossed with a Magen David and made into mince); Denying Jews human rights; and Holocaust denial.

Observes the OHPI:

"There is no way of knowing what is going on at Facebook, but three possibilities suggest themselves: (1) Facebook is giving control of the review process to a group of died in the wool racists, (2) Facebook review staff are well intentioned but seriously ignorant about hate speech, (3) Facebook as policy is doing everything it can in order to normalise the presence of hate speech on its platform. Either the recruitment process is serious[ly] flawed, or the training provided to staff is seriously inadequate, or something is rotten at the core of Facebook.

OHPI believes that these examples are exceedingly clear demonstrations of racism. We call on Facebook to:

1. Remove the offensive images

2. Close the offensive pages they are posting them

3. Permanently close the accounts of the users abusing Facebook to spread such hate

4. Review which staff assessed these examples and audit their decision making

5. Take active measures to improve staff training to avoid similar poor decisions in the future

6. To institute an appeal process as part of the online reporting system

7. To institute systematic random checks of rejected complaints
 
 .... The concern here is not simply that this content was on the Facebook platform, but that Facebook staff were not able to identify this as hate even after it had been reported to them."

Facebook Chief Shtum Regarding Its Toleration Of Holocaust Denial

Although one of Facebook's terms of service is "You will not post content that: is hateful ...," the social networking site has for some years (the alarm was first sounded in 2008) tolerated groups and pages dedicated to the sick phenomenon of Holocaust denial, and as I noted at the time, recently explained this stance following complaints from a group of Holocaust survivors:

At a meeting of the Online Antisemitism Working Group in Jerusalem last month, the issue (first raised by the Working Group two years ago) was discussed via video link with a senior executive of Facebook, who frustratingly confirmed the company line. This resulted in a letter being sent on 12 July to Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg by the co-chairmen of the Working Group, Winnipeg-based lawyer David Matas and Melbourne-based academic Dr Andre Oboler:

"We call on Facebook to abandon its insistence on treating Holocaust denial in a context-free manner, in which it is considered nothing more than the rejection of a historical event. The context makes it clear that there is no meaningful distinction between Holocaust denial and incitement to hatred against Jews … We ask that Facebook recognize Holocaust denial as a form of hate speech, issue a statement to this effect, and do its utmost to remove Holocaust denial from the Facebook platform."

Zuckerberg has not responded, and Oboler reportedly speculates that perhaps Zuckerberg and his fellow Jewish executives are "bending too far in the other direction to let everybody know that they support free speech".

Funny – That Rifle Doesn't Look Jewish!

Here's a photo that appears on an anti-Israel page on Facebook. It gives the impression of an IDF soldier stepping arrogantly and brutally on the chest of a Palestinian child while her distraught mother looks on.

It's attracted the usual often intemperate denunciations of Israel (and of Jews) from the usual suspects, in such comments as these eight, chosen by me at random:

"This is beyond depressing. Words cannot express how heart breaking this picture is. What's worse is that this is a child for God's sake. Shame on them"

"Khazar Jews do not respect peace or love. They only respect violence and hate."

"A nation without feelings go to the endless hell Israel"

"Terrorists...Cowerd"

'“So that Jews will hide behind trees and the tree will say “Muslim! The servant of Allah! Come, look there is a Jew behind me, he hid here, behind me, come and punish him”. Only the tree Gharqad will not say, for it is the tree of the Jews.” (Kitab al-Fitan, hadith. 2239)'

'... there [sic] book talmud teaches them so"The jews are only human and nations of world(gentiles)are not human but beast-baba necia 114b'

 "This is heart breaking but to the brothers and sisters cursing and then praising Allah in the same line... can you please not do that"

 But at least one person with an Arab name isn't fooled:

"I do not want to understand that I am defending the Israeli occupier but i think that the weapon carried by the soldier indicative of something Force the Israeli army is American-made M-16 The weapons that are in the picture is a Russian-made Kalashnikov"

Nevertheless, the "Like" button has been clicked after a comment demanding: 

"share this"

Don't be surprised, therefore, to see the picture on a placard at a demo near you!

Beware "The Anniversary of the Theft of Jerusalem"

Palestinian acitivists, gung-ho after their Facebook-planned "Third Intifada" earlier this month, are anticipating a mass violation of Israel's borders in early June, with - it seems - a date of 5 June being widely given.

However, the date of the great rush at Israel's borders is to be 7 June, what's being dubbed "the anniversary of the theft of Jerusalem," Palestine Media Watch  reports, citing the official Palestinian Authority daily newpaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, 19 May.

The call to action states, apparently on Facebook:

 "Out of loyalty to the Shahids (Martyrs), and in order to continue the path and to base ourselves upon the achievements of the revolutionaries and those who rose up [on 15 May], we announce forcefully and loudly that June 7th - the anniversary of the theft of Jerusalem, the 'flower of cities', by the Zionists - is the day for swearing loyalty to Jerusalem in every country of the world.'"

Also, a Fatah official, Issam al-Halabi, has said that plans are afoot for a major rally on that day to demand the "right of return".  The rally will occur on both "land and water".

That's the translation of the sign (pictured here) chalked on the ground in Tahrir Square on Friday the 13th, during a rally of thousands of Egyptians commemorating the so-called Nakba and wishing death to the Zionist Entity.

Friday's Tahrir Square demonstrators can be considered the vanguard of the Facebook-generated "Third Intifada" called for 15 May.

The Jerusalem Post reports that in Alexandria, the country's second city,  'thousands marched to the Israeli consulate after dawn prayers at one of the city's main mosques, chanting: "With our souls, with our blood, we redeem you Palestine"'.

The paper quotes a representaive participant thus:

"We are here today to show our support for the Palestinian cause.  The victory of our revolution will not be complete without the liberation of Palestine."

Following Friday prayers, thousands also marched, chanting pro-Palestinian slogans, in El-Arish in Sinai.

In the Jordanian capital, Amman,  about 500 marchers, some clad in keffiyehs, demanded the Palestinian Arabs'  "right of return" as did protesters at the Allenby Bridge border crossing.

Further protests are planned for Sunday.

As Professor Barry Rubin, who warned from the start that the Egyptian uprising would not bode well for Israel, remarks of the latter report:

'Love the AP's "evenhanded" explanation of the Right to Return issue:

 "The Palestinians have long maintained that the refugees have a moral and legal right to return to what was once Palestine—including land which is now Israel. But Israel has argued that granting the right of return would compromise the country's identity as the world's only Jewish state."

 Yes, all those riots and massive terrorism leading to bloody civil war, with all the neighbors joining in, followed by the genocidal murder of millions of Jews and the transformation of Israel into an Arab and possibly (probably?) Islamist state that would ally with Iran, work to overturn all the region's non-radical regimes, trigger additional wars and massive suffering, and destroy U.S. influence in the Middle East would definitely be an inconvenience.'
