Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

"Israel Is One Of The Leading Advocates Of Hostility To Iran" (video)

So says Anthony Wedgwood Benn, the now aged former Labour Cabinet minister (in 1963, against all precedent, he insisted on  renouncing the viscountcy he inherited from his father, in order to stay in the House of Commons) who prefers to be known as Tony Benn, befitting the leftist firebrand that he is, at the start of his address to "comrades" in the Stop The War Coalition at a meeting in London earlier this month.  The fact is, of course, that Iran is one of the leading advocates of hostility to Israel and its president has threatened to wipe Israel from the face of the earth.  No matter. To unreconstructed leftists, the Western powers especially Israel (mentioned several times in Benn's talk to his like-minded audience), can do no right, and their enemies can do no wrong.  And Israel should presumably take no action to prevent itself becoming a burnt offering.

What a topsy turvy world such types inhabit: they talk darkly of "imperialist" covetousness towards Iranian oil resources, but the jihadist threat to the democratic West and liberal values, as well as radical Islam's oppression of women, dissidents, and minorities in the Middle East, seems to leave them unfazed.  To say nothing of the Bomb in the hands of a madman who allegedly believes that strife and mayhem is the necessary prelude to the Coming of the Twelfth Imam.

  1. Steve, thanks for the following comment:
'Anthony Wedgwood Benn, the Wedgwood being his link to the pottery empire. A typical "I feel your pain brother", type of socialist.'

I dare not print the rest because it might be defamatory!

Always good to have your comments; they are pithy, funny, and much appreciated.

Don't be offended - I've had to trim other strong comments for similar reasons from time to time.

  2. Typical loon! The man makes up facts with unbelievable ease.

Firstly, Israel has NEVER attacked any country other than in self-defence.

Secondly, Israel has NEVER asked any other country to fight its own wars.

Thirdly, Israel has never asked the USA, or anyone else, to attack Iran or anybody else; all Israel has done in relation to Iran is to seek and support for diplomatic and economic pressure on Iran to stop producing nuclear weapon.

    More fudges:

Britain ruled Egypt until 1955, huh? Egypt was NEVER part of the British Empire! Egypt became an independent (from the Turks) in 1922, thus how Britain could possibly Britain ruled Egypt until 1955?

There are countless conspiracy theories as to how Israel may have obtained sufficient uranium/plutonium to produce nuclear weapon. I don’t know the answer and I suggest that Tony Benn is grandstanding because he does not know the answer either. What I do know is that Israel nuclear program was started with French assistance and both Israeli reactors are believed to be of French design – make of it what you will.

To suggest that Britain supplied the USA with plutonium is laughable. During the Cold War Britain needed all the plutonium it can get for its own nuclear weapon program – that said, during the 1950’s the USA was the only Western country with facilities to dispose nuclear waste safely. Thus, it is possible that Britain sent nuclear waste to the USA for disposal – one more of Mr. Benn’s grandstanding.

If the so-called “Stop the War Coalition” are really interested in stopping a war they should look at Iran – It is Iran that is threatening to wipe Israel off the map, yet in a typical leftist ideology they invert the victim and the perpetrator as is always is the case when it comes to Israel.

  3. The Stop the War Coalition reminds me somewhat of CND (the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament), which appears obsessed with Israel.
