"We were just minding our own business but they kept shouting 'white bitch' and 'white slag' at me.
When I turned around one of them grabbed my hair - she literally wrapped her fingers in my hair - then threw me on the ground. That's when they started kicking me.
They were taking turns to kick me in the head and back over and over. I was lying on the ground the whole time, crying and screaming. It was terrifying. I thought they were going to kill me.Eventually the police came but it felt like ages. Afterwards I was covered in blood and hair. I had a bald patch on my head where they had yanked my hair out and I was black and blue all over."Yesterday Miss Page's attackers appeared before Judge Robert Brown for sentencing. He told them:
"This was ugly and reflects very badly on all four of you. Those who knock someone to the floor and kick them in the head can expect to go inside"And then he added:
"but I'm going to suspend the sentence."Naturally, this apparent outrage on British justice (compare it to the court system's treatment of tram-ranter Emma West, whose racist outburst, deplorable but not life-threatening, has landed the young mother in custody over Christmas) has been widely reported in the newspapers, and there are infuriated comments all over the blogosphere from people alleging a double standard for Muslim and non-white miscreants. But I wanted to read about it on Britain's national broadcaster, the one that British licence-payers fund in order to receive the news: Al Beeb.
Alas. I searched high and low on its website, in both national and local news, and I did not find a single item about the attack on Miss Page, nor its aftermath. Not one word.
When I search her name on the BBC News website, this is what appears:
Sorry, there are no results for 'rhea page' in the category 'News'.
Nor elsewhere on the BBC either.
There is, though, plenty about Emma West, and you don't have to look at all closely to find it. It's been the stuff of headlines on Al Beeb

Update: full footage of the attack on Miss Page here:
I have a feeling Emma's tram rant was partly a product of the disparity described in your article. In other news, British Jews will have a defacto 'loyalty' test (http://cifwatch.com/2011/12/06/loyalty-test-for-british-jews/) and Norwegian politicians blame Israel for the rape wave being carried out by Muslims (http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/150378#.Tt9kx_FhiK3). Crazy old world eh?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, Darrin. And of course suppression of this kind of news is going to cause well-founded resentment, and may even make racists out of otherwise decent people.
ReplyDeleteI hope the CPS will appeal the sentence, but don't hold your breath.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the BBC are concerned they are pathetic. I have just watched a consumer program on this channel and they did an article on alleged overpricing in supermarkets, quoting some saddo saying his usual biscuits had gone up 4 pence, this from an organisation which extorts the thick end of £150 from every household in the U.K.
Thanks, Steve. Yes, the BBC is full of hypocrisy. They no doubt expect transparaency for every other institution, bank, company, etc - yet they thumb their noses at the consept by refusing to release the Balen Report. They also waste colossal sums in Court fighting its release, not to mention their wasteful extravagance and perks in other areas.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the spelling typos!
ReplyDeleteThe video shows that the Somali women were the aggressors at all times and that the only violence used by the boyfriend was in defense of his girlfriend. The defense lawyer's claims are plainly contradicted by the video. And the idea that such a gratuitous and continued attack is excused by the women's lack of experience with alcohol is ridiculous. Lack of experience with alcohol might be an excuse for them getting drunker than they intended or for being loud or vulgar, but mere drunkenness doesn't lead people to racist violence.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, billposer. That attack certainly was sustained, by the look of it.
ReplyDelete"...And of course suppression of this kind of news is going to cause well-founded resentment, and may even make racists out of otherwise decent people..."
ReplyDeleteI am pretty close to this right now...- otherwise I am just simply rendered speechless!!!!:(
I'm making a complaint to them.

I hope more people do, Kiwi. They are, however, a law unto themselves. I am still awaiting a reply to a complaint I made about "Jeremy Bowen's Diary" on their website a couple of ears ago.
ReplyDeleteYeas, not ears, ago!
ReplyDeleteComplain straight to Lord Patten c/o the BBC.
