Meanwhile, a brave young woman, Freya from Cologne, talks frankly and fearlessly about the menace that the mass migration of unvetted Muslim males into Europe is having upon the continent's girls and women.

It's not the sort of talk we hear too often from Western "feminists".

Nor from Western liberals in general, all too prone, it seems, to sacrifice the rights of women, including Muslim women oppressed by their own culture, on the altar of political correctness.  (Instructive if depressing article here)
  
To quote the wonderful Professor Emerita Phyllis Chesler, a Jew and a Zionist and one of a mere handful of high-profile Western feminists who have not betrayed the cause in the face of creeping islamisation:

In honor killings, murders are carefully planned conspiracies and may be perpetrated by multiple family-of-origin members. Brothers, uncles, fathers, and other male relatives usually commit the murder, although mothers have also been known to collaborate in the murders of their daughters; sometimes, they are hands-on perpetrators.

Batterers who murder in the West are usually acting in an unplanned and spontaneous way. They alone are the perpetrators. Their own families do not assist them nor does the victim’s family-of-origin. In the West, fathers rarely murder their teenage daughters. This is what happens in a classic honor killing.

Honor killings in the West are sometimes marked by excessive violence, such as repeated stabbing, raping, bludgeoning, or being set aflame. Such killings are similar to what serial killers do to unknown, often prostituted, women.

In the West, batterers and wife killers are not celebrated—they are shunned. If possible, they are also prosecuted. Hindus in India, and Muslims, worldwide, who commit honor killings, are viewed as heroes who have saved their family’s honor. Thus, they feel no shame or remorse....Only those who believe that it is shameful to expose anything negative about Muslims, especially if it is true, silence such exposure by “shaming” it as racist and “Islamophobic.”....'

Wayward Women, Warped Worldview

Or perhaps I should say "wayward wimmin".  After all, they are all feminists.

Then again, what kind of feminism is it which would support BDS against the nation in the Middle East that has done more for gender equality than any other, and which was the first in the region (i.e. from its inception in 1948) to give Arab women the vote?
 
What psychosis motivates the extreme leftists who've hijacked the women's movement as they have hijacked certain Protestant churches and imposed upon them that warped worldview that imperils Western society and gives aid and comfort to its enemies?

BDS is a feminist issue

The National Women's Studies Association (NWSA), the largest academic feminist organisation in North America ... November 25 will mark the last day for its members to vote electronically on a resolution urging an endorsement of the 2005 call by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against the state of Israel.

The resolution calls on NWSA to join various academic associations that have adopted similar motions in the past few years, including this week's overwhelming support for a boycott motion from the American Anthropological Association, at the NWSA's annual national conference; the American Studies Association; the Association for Asian American Studies; the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association; and the Critical Ethnic Studies Association.

Specifically, the resolution asks feminist academics in North America to stand against "the injustice and violence, including sexual and gender-based violence, perpetrated against Palestinians and other Arabs in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, within Israel and in the Golan Heights, as well as the colonial displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians during the 1948 Nakba".

Drawing on feminist commitments to anticolonial solidarity struggles against historical and ongoing forms of injustice, the resolution rests on a simple and yet powerful claim: that to remain silent in the face of the myriad indignities, injustices and violence that Palestinians are subjected to at the hands of the Israeli occupation is to side with the oppressor.

It thus makes it clear that the boycott of the colonising Israeli state - a state that targets Palestinians, curtails their life opportunities and choices, and orchestrates their incarceration and death - is an act of solidarity shaped by a politics and praxis central to all decolonial feminist projects....

It's "Honour Killings" As Usual In President Abbas's Palestine

Do they know or care about honour killings of Arab women?

Here's a cause for the "pro-Palestinian" sisterhood to embrace  – an aspect of life in President Mahmoud Abbas's Palestinian Authority that is rarely reported by the West's Israel-bashing media outlets: the so-called "honour killings" of Palestinian women, and the leniency with which the perpetrators are treated.

Under the existing penal code, drawn up in 1960 during Jordan's jurisdiction (1948-67) over the West Bank, the maximum custodial sentence for "honour killings" is six months.

Wrote Harriet Sherwood in the Guardian last year following the brutal killing in 2010 of Hebron University student Aya Baradiya,

"Reliable statistics are hard to come by, but it is thought there are around 20 such crimes in the West Bank and Gaza each year. Women who have been raped or molested, or are victims of incest, are considered to have stained a family's reputation. Such acts of violation are rarely admitted by the victim's family."

But such was the outcry over Aya Baradiya's gruesome fate that in 2010 Mr Abbas (who had earlier  received an unrelated petition signed by 8000 Palestinian women for a get-tough policy on "honour killings") promised to amend the penal code in order to guarantee the stiffest punishment for such a crime.


What he actually did was to suspend an article in the penal code of 1960 that stipulated pardon for any wife murderer who had committed his crime on finding the wife in bed with another man.

This was in effect an empty gesture, since the article had never been  had never once been acted upon.


In 2009 Abbas had ratified the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, but sharia prevents its full implementation.

To quote from Harriet Sherwood's article again:

'In Surif, Yasmine Alheeh, 29, minding a clothes shop, says she approves of the legal change [to the article in the penal code]. "There are a lot of things that are hard for a woman to do [in Palestinian society]. A woman has no personal freedom. It's OK to work, but you can't make personal choices."

Nearby, in a vegetable shop, Jalal Danah, 25, says women's actions are limited by Islam. "Our religion does not allow a woman to go out and practise her life without restriction. This would lead to corruption," he says.'

And a current report, by Soraya al-Ghussein and Hannah Patchett for the Ma'an News Agency, quotes Abbas's legal advisersa Hassan al-Ouri as explaining that the UN Convention will only be implemented "so long as it doesn’t contravene Islamic code".

There are no plans to outlaw "honour killings," al-Ouri told Ma'an:.

"Why change it [the law]? This would cause serious problems.... What we need is a new culture.

.... Look, we are for total equality but if there is a basic tenet of Islamic code that we would be forced to change under [the UN Convention], then people would revolt and brand us as non-believers."

Says Interior Ministry official Haitham Arrar (who heads the PA Interior Ministry's democracy and human rights unit) of existing legislation:

"It encourages some people to commit crimes against women, which will go [as far as] killing them."

 Laments Palestinian feminist Soraida Hussein, who believes that Abbas is fearful of confronting "conservative forces":

"[O]ur lives –  in law and in practice – are seen as less than men's....

[The president should issue a decree that] "anybody killing anyone else will be sentenced to the highest sentence possible, whether it is a woman or a boy.

The minute the law is changed and applied, the minute people will think twice.  It's simple and it's not done."

This is a cause that the "pro-Palestinian" western sisterhood should be embracing with gusto.

But for reasons known only to themselves, bashing the Zionist Entity (where rights for women are guaranteed) is far more fun.

Protesting A Barbaric Apartheid State (video)

Below is footage of a counter-protest in Toronto against Iran, mastermind of the Al Quds Day demos around the world.  To quote the uploader:

'A group of Jews, Christians, Hindus, Latinos and Iranians for Democracy in Iran came out to counter protest the Al Quds protest in Queen's Park, Toronto, Canada in support of Israel and in support of a Democratic Iran against the hateful "Palestinian", Iranian and Pakistani Islamic groups supporting Terrorism and hate.'

When will the westerners, especially females, who join the Al Quds Day protests and those who feature prominently in the anti-Israel movement, some (when given the chance) venting their spleen in interviews for Press TV, acknowledge that Iran is an apartheid state, recently banning females from over 70 degree courses, and practising a barbaric, misogynistic legal code (administered by judges, all of whom are male) which ensures that judgments are innately weighted against females and holds that the age of criminal responsibility for a girl is nine-years-of-age (it's 15 for a boy)?

Will the westerners, especially females, who so relish demonising Israel join the organisation Safe World for Women's calls upon the international community to put pressure on the odious Iranian regime to abide by international laws and covenants?

Will they support Safe World for Women's calls for worldwide participation in campaigns to stop the export of cranes to Iran (cranes being the favoured means of judicial murder in Iran, for men, women – unless they've been stoned to death, of course – and juveniles alike)?

And if not, why not?

Lady In Red: The Sex Slave Bride In The New Egypt (video)

This blog focuses on topics relevant to Israel, and only occasionally strays into other areas.  This is one of those occasions. The video you are about to see is in Arabic, and shows something not salacious but profoundly shocking all the same.  The Christian scholar Raymond Ibrahim explains:

'Last Monday, on the Egyptian TV show Al Haqiqa ("the Truth"), journalist Wael al-Ibrashi showed a video-clip of a man, Abd al-Rauf Awn, "marrying" his slave. Before making the woman, who has a non-Egyptian accent, repeat after him the Koran's Surat al-Ikhlas, instead of saying the usual "I marry myself to you," the woman said "I enslave myself to you" .... Then, even though she was wearing a hijab, her owner-husband declared that she is forbidden from such trappings and commanded her to be stripped of them, so as "not to break Allah's laws." She took her veil and abaya off, revealing, by Muslim standards, a seductive red dress....

 The man, Abd al-Rauf Awn, who identified himself as an Islamic scholar who studied at Al Azhar and an expert at Islamic jurisprudence, then appeared on the show, giving several Islamic explanations to justify his marriage....

According to Islamic jurisprudence, whereas the free (Muslim) woman is mandated to wear a hijab, sex-slaves are mandated only to be covered from the navel to the knees—with everything else exposed....

 Awn further went on to declare that he believes the idea of sex slave marriage is ideal for today's Egyptian society....

The other guest on the show, Dr. Abdullah al-Naggar, a professor in Islamic jurisprudence at Al Azhar, fiercely attacked Awn for reviving this practice, calling on him and his slave-wife to "repent," to stop dishonoring Islam, and arguing that "there is no longer sex-slavery"—to which Awn responded by sarcastically asking, "Who said sex-slavery is over? What—because the UN said so?"  ....'

Female Israel-Bashers Unite, You Have Nothing To Lose But Your Hypocrisy (video)

Once upon a time, at a Zionist conference in Melbourne, Australia attended by a lot of university students, I heard a young man (bless him!) during the break remark to one of the madrichim present that hasbara should make much more of the fact that women's status in Israel compares so favourably to that of women in nearby countries.

To my disgust, the slightly older man merely shrugged and walked away.  But there's no doubt the student was right.

I've been spring-cleaning, and in my desk drawer I found a cutting from the London Daily Telegraph that someone had sent me, dated 9 September 2002.  The small News-in-Brief item bears the eye-catching heading "Man Beheads His Daughter".

The report reads:

'An Iranian cut off his seven-year-ol daughter's head after suspecting she had been raped by her uncle, the Jomhuri-ye Eslami newspaper said yesterday,  But a post-mortem examination showed she was a virgin.

"The motive behind the killing was to defend my honour, fame, and dignity," the father said.'  Reuters, Teheran.

I can sense the leftwing feminist yawns right now, as the wimmin for Palestine concentrate their ire and fire on the one nation in the Middle East that protects women's rights.

In a region of the globe and among cultures that so often treat girls and women as trash, Israel, as Bibi Netanyahu so eloquently pointed out last year (see my sidebar) "Israel is different".

The following video encapsulates that difference in a nutshell.  It shows the types of horror that too often confronts the female sex elsewhere in the Middle East, reminds us of the vile treatment that certain of Israel's Muslim enemies advocate for Jewish women, and demonstrates how rights for Israeli women, irrespective of background, are enshrined in Israeli law.

Oppression: A Saudi Princess Speaks Out

Al Beeb on its website carries excerpts from a radio interview on the BBC World Service with a genuine Saudi princess, resident in London.  These excerpts focus on the institutionalised oppression and infantilisation of women in the desert kingdom.  In the course of these remarks relating to women she also touches on other aspects of Saudi society  –  the fossilised educational curriculum and the endemic poverty encompassing much of society –  which she emphasises must also be changed.

For example:

'The content of the syllabus is extremely dangerous. For one, our young are taught that a woman's position in society is inferior. Her role is strictly limited to serving her family and raising children. They are actually taught that if a woman has to worship anyone other than God it should be her husband; "that the angels will curse her if she is not submissive to her husband's needs". Girls are also strictly forbidden from taking part in any physical education. This is a result of a complete misinterpretation of the Koran. I consider these ideologies to be inherently abusive.

 Aside from that, the focus in most of our educational system is on religious subjects such as hadith (sayings attributed to the prophet), Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), tafssir (interpretation of the Koran) and of course the Koran. The attitude is that "learning itself, anything other than religion won't get you into heaven so don't waste your time". I would like to see religious teaching limited to the Koran and the Sunna (the way the prophet lived), where the true ethics of Islam lie. The rest is blind rote learning of the most dangerous kind. It has left our youth vulnerable to fundamentalist ideologies that have led to terrorism and abuse of the true meaning of the Koran....

The ministry of social affairs is tolerating cruelty towards women rather than protecting them. The only refuge homes that abused women can turn to are state ones. In these, women are continuously told that by seeking refuge they have brought shame on their families. 

If they come from powerful families then they will be sent straight back to their homes in fear of the wrath of a powerful patriarch. As a result we have seen many cases of suicide by educated women, doctors and scientists who were sent back to their abusers.

 We need independent women's refuges where the rights of women are upheld and backed up by powerful laws that can override family traditions and protect women.

The ministry of social affairs not only abuses women's rights but is also one of the reasons poverty is rife in the kingdom. A corrupt system that lacks transparency has meant that more than 50% of our population is poor and needy even though we are one of the wealthiest countries on earth....'

It may be that Al Beeb is not squeamish about freely publicising these comments since they refer to a country that is a key ally of the West.

But the formalised oppression of women is prevalent in other parts of the Islamic world as well, and given the de facto existence of numerous sharia courts in Britain, which aren't renowned for being run by New Age guys, we don't have to travel to Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan to find it.

Moreover, I suspect that so-called "Asian" gangs who in Britain and other parts of northern Europe groom vulnerable under-age white girls for sexual abuse are acting on an ingrained premise that females are inherently inferior (and in all likelihood on the further premise that by sexually possessing these girls they are getting revenge on their former colonial masters, symbolised by the white fathers who, being male, "own" the girls).

Yet with honourable exceptions (there must be some, surely?) the Israel-demonising lefties regardless of gender are wilfully blind to all this.

Or at least wilfully shtum about it.

They misdirect their spleen at Israel.

What a bunch of hypocrites (to put it no stronger) they are.
