Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

"BDS is Under Attack in Ireland"

Our Israel-hating chums in the Emerald Isle, home to some particularly vociferous examples of the Israel-hating fraternity, are fuming.

As reported here:

'The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign said it feels vulnerable following a decision by Bank of Ireland to close its bank accounts in the Republic and in Northern Ireland....

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Group has had accounts with Bank of Ireland since it was first established in 2001.
It said it was first contacted about this issue by the bank in July with a series of questions including what the funds in the account were used for and if it transferred any money to Palestine and if so to whom.
The Campaign's treasurer Martin O'Quigley said it fully answered the bank's questions and provided it with a copy of its constitution and of its audited accounts for 2015.
It said most of its funds are spend in Ireland raising awareness of Palestinian issues.
The only money or aid it sends to Palestine is to a factory in the West Bank which manufactures traditional Palestinian scarves which the campaign buys as solidarity items.
But it said Bank of Ireland informed it that it does not fit the bank's appetite for risk as Palestine is deemed to be a high-risk country....
The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Group has opened new accounts with AIB [Allied Irish Banks] but said it feels vulnerable that a bank could withdraw facilities without what it believes to be any good reason.
It is considering an appeal to the Banking Ombudsman.
Sinn Féin deputy leader Mary Lou McDonald branded the decision by Bank of Ireland as "outrageous"....'
Meanwhile, the ISPC  have issued a statement on social media:
' #BDS is under attack in Ireland: As you may have heard on RTE Radio's This Week program  the Bank of Ireland have closed the accounts of the IPSC - after 15 years of banking with them - and not given us a proper reason, merely citing "risk".
Needless to say, this has had a damaging effect on our ability to finance ourselves through loss of time and income, and on our ability to organise in defence of Palestinian rights. It's difficult to escape the conclusion that this attack on our ability to bank is a politically motivated measure to silence a human rights organsiation that campaigns for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it fulfills its obligations under international law (a campaign the Irish government views as entirely legitimate). Such closures of accounts of BDS-supporting organisations have occurred all over Europe, in France, Germany, Austria and Britain.
The closure has of course had an adverse effect on our finances - and we ask you to please consider making a regular subscription to our help us in our "risky" work advocating for freedom, justice and equality for the people of Palestine."

For Martin O'Quigley, see this mind-boggling rant of his a year ago, in which, inter alia, he declares that Gaza will be "unliveable by 2020".

 To quote the uploader:
"Martin O'Quigley, Chairperson of the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign spoke at the demonstration in solidarity with refugees and migrants in Dublin on Saturday 12th September 2015. Mr. O'Quigley was invited to speak about the situation facing Palestinian refugees in particular, having been denied their right of return to their homes by Israel for almost seven decades.
Many of those fleeing war, terror, repression and hardship in the Middle East and Africa are Palestinians – some are refugees for a second or third time. The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign is proud to endorse this demonstration calling on the Irish government to do more for refugees and migrants trying to reach Europe via dangerous journey in which thousands of people have died. In many cases either Western intervention, or Western indifference, has caused the crises which have led to the creation of the problems faced by these people.
Therefore it’s not enough to merely take in those seeking better lives, the Irish government must seek to remedy the root causes, including supporting sanctions on Israel until it respects international law, ends it occupation of Palestine and allows the millions of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes, a right denied them for almost 70 years." [Emphasis added]
On such arrant nonsense and misinformation and ill-will does the anti-Israel cause rest.

Look at the antisemitism contained in the comments on a report regarding the (no great friend to Israel) Irish president's praise of Shimon Peres here

Despicably,  taking an ill-deserved swipe at Peres (in the Irish Times on 30 September) was Dublin-based ex-pat Israeli academic Ronit Lentin, a known Israel-basher.
'Sir, – Israel’s former president Shimon Peres was anything but a “symbol of hope and reconciliation in the Middle East” (Editorial, September 29).
Deeply involved in the Zionist settler colonial enterprise in Palestine from its inception, Peres was charged with establishing the Israeli military and air industries (not its “defence industry” as some commentators call it), as well as Israel’s nuclear reactor in Dimona.
Peres was responsible for persuading France and Britain to attack Egypt in 1956, an imperialist war, not an Israeli response to an existential threat as argued at the time.
He was instrumental in instigating the 1967 war, and, as a member of the ruling (socialist) Mapai party, was one of the architects of the settlement project.
More specifically, Peres ordered the kidnapping of the whistle-blowing nuclear technician Mordechai Vanunu and gave the order to massacre the Palestinians sheltering in the UN camp in Qana, Lebanon. Peres later claimed he didn’t know that people were hiding in the UN camp, but eyewitnesses said this was a lie and that Israel, which had occupied Qana in the Lebanon invasion of 1982, had a video of the camp and knew exactly what it was doing.
As an Israeli citizen I take no pride in Shimon Peres, a war criminal who should have been prosecuted rather than awarded the by now meaningless Nobel Peace Prize. – Yours, etc,...'
Odious stuff.

BDSers' Stomping Stills Irish Dancers' Feet

Sadly, as reported in the Jewish Chronicle,
'An Irish dance academy was forced to cancel the first ever Irish dance competition to be held in Israel after receiving threatening messages from an anti-Israel group. [See here]

The Carey Academy Israel was set to hold the “1st Israeli Feis” in Tel Aviv on August 15 but called it off after a protest outside its UK dance studio in Birmingham.

The organisers said that students, parents and teachers had received threats from boycotters.

In a statement on the event’s Facebook page, the organisers said: “Unfortunately we have to announce the cancellation of what would have been the 1st Israeli Feis. Age, nationality, or religious beliefs do not matter to us. Unfortunately, there was a protest outside our dance studio. We do not want to risk safety of anyone connected to the Carey Academy. The feis was not meant to be anything more than what it really is - a celebration of dancing, friendship and joy. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to people who may have already booked tickets but I am sure you understand the safety of our dancers is our number one priority.”....'

Naturally, the BDSers are dancing for joy, although their joy is tempered.  See, for instance, this mad-as-a-nest-of-disturbed-hornets press release from the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, linked to by a despicably Israel-demonising group of as-a-Jews:

"D'You Wear A Swastika?": Our Old Friend In A Fix (video)

Here's our old friend from the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign demonstrating, this time not in Dublin but in London, against the Steinmetz "Blood Diamond" on display in the Tower of London.

Just after our old friend, hardly the picture of sartorial elegance equal to the occasion, enters the splendid foyer of De Beers to attempt to deliver a letter demanding that the diamond be removed from the Tower, he's confronted outside by a clearly irate supporter of the Zionist Entity.

This black-clad supporter, as beefy as our old friend is lean, raises the subject of the massacre of Israelis, to which he receives the dismissive response "Israelis are war criminals ...".

For all his apparent loquacity, our old friend seems decidedly reluctant to engage with this guy, who tells him "You're a disgrace, and evil" and a few other things besides.

Our old friend and his pals are soon yelling in stentorian tones outside De Beers, and purporting to speak in the name of the "People of England".  Before that, holding placards in Arabic as well as in English, they seem to have made friends with a lady in a hijab as well as with a group of Moroccan passers-by.  The video ends with footage of their huge Israel-demonising banner unfurled by the Statue of Eros in Piccadilly Circus.

Israel-Haters Rant Against The Queen's Steinmetz Diamond (videos)

Here are some of our familiar friends from the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign, demonstrating in Dublin this month against "Israeli Blood Diamonds"  – more specifically against the Steinmetz diamond De Beers presented to Queen Elizabeth II during this, her Diamond Jubilee Year.

In the course of the demo a pro-Israel foursome passes by, and – as in this memorable incident involving Jewish tourists –  take issue with the demonisers, who are challenged regarding the selectivity/hypocrisy of BDSers in continuing to use Israeli computer chips.

We catch part of the action as the elderly pro-Israel man tells the demonisers "You don't know what you're talking about," before he and his wife continue their stroll.  Their departure prompts a short discussion between a trio of demonisers ...

And tourists visiting the Tower of London on Sunday had their tranquility rudely interrupted by a  band of Israel-haters screeching about "Israeli genocide"and screaming demands that the Queen return the "Steinmetz blood diamond" on display at the Tower.

Most of the tourists amble past the demonisers, with scarcely a bemused glance in their direction.

The uploader of this video onto YouTube is a veteran of the anti-Ahava demos in London's Covent Garden.

If You're Irish, Come Into The Petition

The frequency with which the notorious Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign holds demos demonising Israel, and the vehement hatred displayed by certain hardcore activists (who as seen here even travelled to London's diamond district to bait traders, fortunately copping an earful from supporters of the Zionist Entity) should not obscure the fact that there are friends of Ireland in the Emerald Isle, such as this commenter on a current anti-BDS petition:
"I'm tired of Israel always having to stand alone. I am a Christian. I love Israel. I wish to support them in all their troubles."

Here's the text of the petition (to sign it click here):

Many of you will have signed my petition on Avaaz.org.Sadly today Avaaz showed it true colours and removed the petition as it felt it was against their "Community Standards". Avaaz's behaviour has been anti democratic and biased but we the friends of Israel in Ireland and worldwide must stand together and urge Minister Gilmore and the Irish Government to not seek a EU ban on Israeli goods made in the settlements.
On the 15th May 2012 Eamon Gilmore the Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs suggested he may seek a EU wide ban of Israeli settlement goods.
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/frontpage/2012/0515/1224316131471.html
Israeli settlements are in Area C, Area C of the West Bank under the Oslo Accord was assigned to Israel.Area A and B was given to the Palestinian Authority to control.
If Minister Gilmore wishes to seek a boycott of Israeli settlement goods,we seek an EU wide boycott of goods made in Western Sahara which is occupied by Morocco,Indonesian goods made in West Papua New Guinea and Chinese goods made in Tibet

We urge Minister Gilmore,Minister Creighton and the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs not to seek a boycott of Israeli goods ,instead they should look to build bridges between various communities in the Middle East.
Singling out Israel will not secure a lasting peace.

"I Used To Hate Israel.... Not Any More": A Pro-Israel Irishman On Palestinian Terrorism & On Israel-Bashing In The Emerald Isle

An Irish activist posing beside IPSC wares
Since my last post showed the antics of some of the more fanatical Israel-bashers in the Emerald Isle, members of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (over the months we've met some of its activists via video several times, of course), I feel compelled to draw readers' attention (in case any of you haven't already seen it) to the marvellous article that young Irish film maker Nicky Larkin had in, of all newspapers, The Independent (home of Robert Fisk and in many respects as reprehensible as The Guardian regarding Israel) a couple of days ago.

Nicky Larkin writes as a former opponent of Israel who had a change of heart as a result of his experiences in the West Bank and Israel.  Here's a brief taste:
'I used to hate Israel. I used to think the Left was always right. Not any more. Now I loathe Palestinian terrorists. Now I see why Israel has to be hard....
....[T]he Palestinian mantra was one of "non-violent resistance". It was their motto, repeated over and over...
Yet when I interviewed Hind Khoury, a former Palestinian government member, she sat forward angrily in her chair as she refused to condemn the actions of the suicide bombers. She was all aggression.
This aggression continued in Hebron, where I witnessed swastikas on a wall. As I set up my camera, an Israeli soldier shouted down from his rooftop position. A few months previously I might have ignored him as my political enemy. But now I stopped to talk. He only talked about Taybeh, the local Palestinian beer.
Back in Tel Aviv in the summer of 2011, I began to listen more closely to the Israeli side. I remember one conversation in Shenkin Street -- Tel Aviv's most fashionable quarter, a street where everybody looks as if they went to art college. I was outside a cafe interviewing a former soldier.
He talked slowly about his time in Gaza. He spoke about 20 Arab teenagers filled with ecstasy tablets and sent running towards the base he'd patrolled. Each strapped with a bomb and carrying a hand-held detonator.
The pills in their bloodstream meant they felt no pain. Only a headshot would take them down.
Conversations like this are normal in Tel Aviv. I began to experience the sense of isolation Israelis feel. An isolation that began in the ghettos of Europe and ended in Auschwitz.
Israel is a refuge -- but a refuge under siege, a refuge where rockets rain death from the skies. And as I made the effort to empathise, to look at the world through their eyes. I began a new intellectual journey. One that would not be welcome back home.

Irish President Higgins at an anti-Israel demo
The problem began when I resolved to come back with a film that showed both sides of the coin. Actually there are many more than two. Which is why my film is called Forty Shades of Grey. But only one side was wanted back in Dublin. My peers expected me to come back with an attack on Israel. No grey areas were acceptable.
An Irish artist is supposed to sign boycotts, wear a PLO scarf, and remonstrate loudly about The Occupation. But it's not just artists who are supposed to hate Israel. Being anti-Israel is supposed to be part of our Irish identity, the same way we are supposed to resent the English...'

Playing At Being An IDF Soldier In Limerick (video)

The opening seconds of this video set in Limerick focus on a quaint, almost bizarre, sideshow that evokes a vanished era.

Then the camera swings to a scene nearby, where members of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign - reputedly one of the most extreme such groups in the British Isles - stage a show of their own.  As one (a familiar face and voice to Iwatchers of the Israel-demoniser movement in Ireland) blares anti-Israel propaganda through a megaphone, a bloke who definitely does not look good in uniform (if my ears serve me correctly he later explains that it's that of the "British racist state" and claims that when Israelis don a uniform they change) pretending to be an IDF soldier at a checkpoint, bashing a Palestinian with the butt of his rifle ...

Along come two Arab girls to sign the BDS petition on offer - one is evidently known to the BDSers and the other, questioned by megaphone man, confirms that she is from Saudi Arabia.  Approving noises all round from the welcoming, excited BDSers. Not a word, of course, from those BDSers about the (true) apartheid practised in that country against women and non-Muslims, nor about the heinous punishments meted out by the barbaric "justice" system of the tribal kingdom.

Ah! If only my Muse was moved to compose a limerick about these folk below and their double standards ...

"You Can Recognise Them Because They Are Better-Dressed Than We Are....Don't Believe A Word These Professional Liars Say To You" Declares BDS Campaigner Of Pro-Israel Bystanders (video)

Here's Raymond Deane, cultural liaison officer of the Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, participating in a "Boycott Apartheid Israel" demo outside the Henry Street, Dublin, branch of a long-established department store called Dunnes, which stocks Israeli goods.

He takes the microphone from ISPC chairperson Martin O'Quigley in order to draw attention to a group of people who, he claims, have been sent to Ireland by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The people in question are easily recognised, he explains, because they "are better dressed than we are," the reason being that they "get more money from the American taxpayer".  He indicates "a delightful young woman" photographing proceedings presumably "for her bosses in Tel Aviv" and alleges that the people he has pointed out "lied about their origins" ...

The video's uploader wrote:
'For the second day in a row, the IPSC was shadowed by the Israeli hasbara delegation, whose mission seemed to be to "argue, argue, argue". Unfortunately for the hasbaroids, they have no arguments of substance with which to actually argue. Lies, distortions, slander, putting words in peoples' mouths and "what about-ery" were the order of the day as they read from the hasbara playbook. ....
Unbelievably, one of the hasbaroids even tried, unsuccessfully, to get the manager of Dunnes Stores to have the IPSC stall moved. It seems that they believe that - like the state they were here representing - they had the right to evict whomsoever they pleased. Eventually, after losing many arguments and being largely ignored by passersby, Team Hasbara left the area, while the IPSC continued engaging with a very receptive public. Indeed, it seemed as if the very presence of the hasbaroids was so off-putting to punters that they were making a point of coming up to the stall and signing the petition calling on CRH to divest from its Israeli interests that are involved in building the illegal Apartheid wall in Palestine.'

Martin O'Quigley's droning speech, alleging apartheid in both the West Bank and Israel within the pre-1967 borders seems in fact to have attracted relatively little attention from passers-by, judging by how many of them appear to scurry past with hardly a glance in his direction or that of his placard-displaying cohorts.  A letter was handed in to Dunnes requesting them to cease stocking Israeli goods.

Hibernian Hate In Hatton Garden, London: Blarney Dublin Style Against Israeli "Blood Diamonds" (video)

They were soundly rebuked on their home turf by Jewish passers-by from North America not so long ago, if you recall this incident

In this video we see members of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign taking their hate message on 4 February to Hatton Garden, centre of London's diamond trade.

They are confronted by a Jewish trader in his doorway, who politely tells them a few home truths, while later another diamond trader, who is not Jewish, informs them "This tells me you're antisemitic".

An Israeli supporter of theirs is interviewed by them at length ...  (Prepare to be nauseated.)

Then watch them laugh and jest after a passer-by, recognising them as "the usual suspects", berates them for their obsession with Israel  ...

Irish Anti-Israel Fanatics Protest Portuguese Singer's Upcoming Visit To Tel Aviv (video)

Portuguese singer Ana Moura is due to perform in Israel on 27th January, and to date hasn't responded to a letter from Raymond Deane, the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign's Cultural Boycott Officer, who told her:
"Your Irish fans and the many Irish lovers of Fado music will be eager to give you a warm Irish welcome when you perform in our National Concert Hall on 19th January next.
However, if you persist with your plan to perform in Israel on 27th January, in violation of the Palestinian call for a cultural boycott of the Israeli state, that welcome will be balanced by a demonstration against your indifference to the fate ... of the Palestinian people....
Please ensure that your welcome to Ireland will be unconditional by cancelling your planned performance in Tel Aviv."
The ISPC fanatics (you may recognise two of them from the video in which outraged Jewish visitors gave them a well-deserved tongue-lashing not long ago) were therefore outside the National Concert Hall in Dublin on Thursday, 19th January, to make their feelings known.

Hear these anti-Israel fanatics spewing their venom against the "racist" Jewish State, which they want consigned to "the dustbin of history".  It "clearly is not" a "liberal democratic state on the Western model" but "an ethnocracy for Jews first and foremost" in which Ana Moura will be performing for a "segregated audience" and which is setting up "concentration camps" for illegal immigrants. Of course, these Irish fanatics very conveniently don't mention what the illegal immigrants are escaping from, and why they are willing to risk everything by trekking across desert to enter the - ahem! - Apartheid State. Oh, and they invoke Martin Luther King, apparently forgetting that Dr King wrote "When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews" and a whole lot more on that theme in similiar vein

Diamonds In The Emerald Isle: Jewish Passers-By Confront Israel-Vilifying Demonstrators (videos)

The hoary-headed Israel-haters campaigning in Dublin against Israeli "blood" diamonds the other day didn't have a very good time.  First, they were rudely interrupted by a long line of demonstrators for another cause marching through their patch, and then, to their utter surprise and obvious chagrin, an articulate young Jewish man with whom they'd previously skirmished stopped by to tell them some real home truths about themselves.  Then another man, presumably the young man's father, joined in.  Watch the antisemites cackle at the obviously enraged and distressed young man's remarks about Jewish claims to Israel, and then bait him with full-decibel shouts of "Free Palestine, Free Palestine".

Here's more footage of the demo by President Higgins's repugnant Israel-hating compatriots, one fanatic accusing Israel of crimes against the Syrian people...
(But here's something more pleasant out of Dublin, Israeli performer Izhar Ashdot singing "Whiskey in a jar" on stage there. Hat tip: Tom C.)
