Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

David Singer: Trump Must Enjoin UN to Condemn Hizballah, UNIFIL and Hamas

Here's the latest article by Sydney lawyer and international affairs analyst David Singer.

He writes:

President Trump should urgently enjoin the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to condemn Hizballah and the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) following Israel’s discovery of four tunnels dug from Lebanon into Israel.

Trump signed the Sanctioning the Use of Civilians as Defenseless Shields Act (“HR 3342”) into law on 21 December demanding sanctions against Hamas and Hizballah personnel – foreign terrorist organizations proscribed under 8 U.S.C. 1189.

Trump is probably still smarting from the humiliating defeat – by the narrow margin of nine votes – of the American-sponsored Resolution at the UNGA condemning Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza for:
  • repeatedly firing rockets into Israel
  • using airborne incendiary devices
  • constructing military infrastructure, including tunnels to infiltrate Israel and equipment to launch rockets into civilian areas
Resubmitting the Resolution to the UNGA would determine whether those countries that voted:
  • against the Resolution (57),
  • abstained (33) or
  • did not vote (16)
will be prepared to change their morally-reprehensible decisions.

Hizballah and UNIFIL have to be made accountable for creating the current dangerous threat to peace and security on the Israel-Lebanese border in flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law.

HR 3342 was unanimously adopted on 11 December following Congress finding:
 (1) Human shields are civilians, prisoners of war, and other non-combatants whose presence is designed to protect combatants and military objects from attack, and the use of human shields violates international law.
(2) Throughout the 2006 conflict with the State of Israel, Hizballah forces utilized human shields to protect themselves from counterattacks by Israeli forces, including storing weapons inside civilian homes and firing rockets from inside populated civilian areas.
(3) Hizballah has rearmed to include an arsenal of over 150,000 missiles, and other destabilizing weapons provided by the Syrian and Iranian governments, which are concealed in Shiite villages in southern Lebanon, often beneath civilian infrastructure.
(4) Hizballah is legally required to disarm under both United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006) and the Taif Agreement (1989).
(5) Hizballah maintains an armed military force within Lebanon’s sovereign territory in direct violation of United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1559 (2004) and 1680 (2006), thus preventing Lebanon from exerting its lawful control over its internationally recognized borders.
UNIFIL has been clearly negligent – if not actually complicit – in allowing this simmering crisis to reach its boiling point.

UNIFIL has admitted the following:
“Based on UNIFIL’s independent assessment, UNIFIL has so far confirmed the existence of all the four tunnels close to the Blue Line in northern Israel.
After further technical investigations conducted independently in accordance with its mandate, UNIFIL at this stage can confirm that two of the tunnels cross the Blue Line. These constitute violations of UN Security Council resolution 1701.”
UN Security Council Resolution 1701 mandated UNIFIL to:
  • Assist the Lebanese armed forces in taking steps towards the establishment between the Blue Line and the Litani river of an area free of any armed personnel, assets and weapons other than those of the Government of Lebanon and of UNIFIL deployed in this area.
  • Assist the Government of Lebanon, at its request, in securing its borders and other entry points to prevent the entry in Lebanon without its consent of arms or related materiel.
Hizballah’s occupation of Lebanese sovereign territory and its build-up of 150000 weapons of mass destruction have incontrovertibly imperilled the civilian populations of both Israel and Lebanon.

UNIFIL’s failure to carry out its mandate calls for a special UN investigation.

Hamas must be expelled from Lebanon and those 150000 missiles neutralised to prevent a Jewish-Arab humanitarian crisis of massive proportions.

United Nations member-states must stand up and be counted.

The BUF With A Different Face: London's tolerated Jew-baiters

The smiling Israel-hater on the right of the picture at left, and in full Israel-denouncing flood below, is, well, you really don't need me to introduce you, do you?

You may, however, not be quite so well-acquainted with the Israel-hater standing next to Stephen Sizer.

He's Nazim Ali, a pharmacist and director of the so-called “Advocacy Group” of the UK Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC). He appears to be the master of ceremonies of choice at London's toxic Al Quds Day rallies, the Iran-sponsored hate fest which seems to be becoming ever more overtly antisemitic each year.

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYInkVkBjhI

Back in 2012 it fell to Mr Ali to welcome to the rostrum the following enthusiastic quartet of hardened Israel-demonisers to perform their rabble-rousing against the Zionist entity each in turn.

Unreconstructed old Trotskyite, now leader of the Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn:

Incorrigible pro-Iran Anglican enfant terrible Sizer:

Loquacious Irish anti-Israel agitator Sean Clinton:

Demagogic Scottish PSC chief Mick Napier, like Sizer a frequent guest on Iran's propaganda channel Press TV:

At this year's Al Quds day rally in London, Mr Ali's own intemperate demagoguery was in full decibel force.

Addled by the presence of a courageous group of men and women proudly holding Israeli flags, who slowed the hate parade as it snaked its evil way along Regent Street, Hezbollah flags flying as usual (despite a plea to London mayor Sadiq Khan and others in authority that flying the terrorist flag be banned) and even managed to halt it until coralled by Mr Plod, Mr Ali resorted to racism raw and rude inveighing
"Babykillers ... Occupation ... It's in their genes ... European alleged Jews ... Zionists are not Jews ..."
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzKKZ_1at5A

As reported by the Jewish Chronicle, inter alia:
'....  Mr Ali whipped up the 1,000 anti-Israel fanatics attending the march with a series of chants blaming the Grenfell Tower tragedy on “Zionism”.
He also called for Israel’s annihilation, and accused the Israel Defence Force of being a “terrorist organisation that murdered Palestinians, Jews and British soldiers.” [Emphasis added, here and below]
Mr Ali stayed at the head of the marchers ... for the two hours it took for the parade to make its way through central London to Grosvenor Square, Using a loud-hailer to lead them in a stream of anti-Israel abuse.  \
At one point he spotted pro-Israel counter-demonstrators carrying Israeli flags.
He ordered the march to halt, insisting it would not move on until the “Zionist flag” was removed. He said: “We are fed up of the Zionists. We are fed up of their rabbis. We are fed of their synagogues. We are fed up of their supporters.”
Screaming into the microphone, Mr Ali guided the crowd in a chant of: “Judaism – yes. Zionism – no. The state of Israel must go.”
It was just as the march was about to set off that Mr Ali walked towards a small group of pro-Israeli demonstrators and began singing: “Bye, bye Zionists.”
He then made his remarks linking the Grenfell Tower tragedy to Zionism, adding: “These people do not know what justice is because it’s their supporters who are supporting the Tory Party, that’s who they are. Zionists who give money to the Tory Party to kill people in high rise blocks."
Mr Ali turned to the large police presence and said: “I am requesting that the police watch those trouble-makers over there. They will try to incite. That’s what they are good at causing violence. Do not react to the killers of British soldiers.”
He also repeatedly drew attention to the presence of a handful of members of the Jewish anti-Israel Neturei Karta group, praising as being “true” Jews.
He added: “Because these rabbis don’t kill people, because these rabbis  don’t murder people, they are told they are traitors. Because Zionism is a fascist, evil ideology. It is an evil ideology to its core – that’s what Zionism is. That is why they killed British soldiers in order to get their country.”
During the march Mr Ali also claimed “Zionists” were supporters of Isis.
He said: ”Isis are being treated in their hospitals. Isis are being supported in the occupied Golan. Everyone knows that  Zionist Israel and Isis  are the same. They are brothers in arms.“
The Jewish Chronicle notes that the IHRC
Anti-Israel activists rejoice
'has repeatedly called for the repeal of much UK terror legislation – including the government’s Prevent strategy.
The Community Security Trust yesterday condemned Mr Ali’s comments linking Zionism to the Grenfell Towers fire as “grotesque.”
Lord Polak CBE, Conservative Friends Of Israel’s Honorary President wrote to Home Secretary Amber Rudd to express concern over the Hezbollah flag at Sunday’s march and  called on the Metropolitan Police to charge those found in “direct contravention” of Section 13 of the Terrorism Act (2000).
The UK currently proscribes Hezbollah’s so-called ‘military wing’, while the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and Israel proscribe the terrorist organisation in its entirety.
The Metropolitan Police and the Home Office have been asked for comment....'

For more on this be sure to see the the splendid coverage (with photographs) by the Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) here

The CAA observes, inter alia:
'In the wake of the terrorist attacks in London and Manchester, just as the government has promised a crackdown on extremism and terrorism, the red carpet has been rolled out for hundreds of supporters of Hizballah in central London today.
The brave volunteers of our Demonstration and Event Monitoring Unit went into the thick of the pro-Hizballah supporters to capture evidence, whilst police officers looked on inertly.
Some of the people at a splendid counter-rally
Marchers draped themselves in Hizballah flags bearing a dagger and a raised fist clenching an assault rifle, and organisers handed out flags for those who had not brought their own. The organising charity even distributed placards emblazoned with the slogan: “We are all Hizballah”. As the marchers claimed that Zionists were responsible for ISIS and even the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower, the Metropolitan Police Service refused to make arrests or even accept reports of hate crimes when approached by members of the public, with one Inspector even claiming that Hizballah flags belong to a legitimate “state” instead of a terrorist organisation. Terrifyingly, demonstrators even attached Hizballah flags to children whilst police looked on.
However, supporters of Hizballah did not have the streets to themselves. As they marched down iconic Regent Street, their path was blocked by anti-terrorist protesters chanting “Terrorists” and playing Jewish music (they had come prepared with a saxophonist). The police however suddenly spurred into action, with vans of officers arriving within seconds to start demanding that the anti-terrorist protesters move out of the way, with reports of pushing and shoving.
The brazen display of support for a genocidal antisemitic terrorist group was met with inaction, but opposition by members of the public was swiftly rounded upon.
Outside the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square, marchers were addressed by figures including Mick Napier, Chair of the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, who was convicted in March of aggravated trespass over allegations of intimidating bank staff at a demonstration against investment by Barclays Bank in an Israeli company. Campaign Against Antisemitism will analyse the excitable speeches....
Hizballah is clear that it seeks the genocide of Jews worldwide, committing terrorist atrocities from Bangkok to Buenos Aires to Burgas. As Britain mourns those we have so recently lost to Islamist terrorism, the Metropolitan Police Service and Charity Commission permitted Hizballah supporters to mount a show of force through the heart of London. This is the reality of the supposed crackdown on extremism and terrorism. Since the authorities intend to take no action, it now falls to us to ensure that there are consequences for those who organised a pro-terrorist show of strength through the heart of London today. We will also be reviewing our legal options for holding the authorities to account over their utterly despicable failure to act.'
In response to yesterday's attack on a mosque at London's Finsbury Park, Theresa May has wasted no time in declaring:
"... It is a reminder that terrorism, extremism and hatred take many forms and our determination to tackle them must be the same, whoever is responsible.
As I said here two weeks ago, there has been far too much tolerance of extremism in our country over many years - and that means extremism of any kind, including Islamophobia.
That is why this government will act to stamp out extremist and hateful ideology - both across society and on the internet, so it is denied a safe space to grow.
It is why we will be reviewing our counter-terrorism strategy and ensuring that police and security services have the powers they need.
And it is why we will establish a new Commission for Countering Extremism as a statutory body to help fight hatred and extremism in the same way as we have fought racism - because this extremism is every bit as insidious and destructive to our values and our way of life and we will stop at nothing to defeat it.
Today's attack falls at a difficult time in the life of this city, following on from the attack on London Bridge two weeks ago - and of course the unimaginable tragedy of Grenfell Tower last week, on which I will chair another meeting of ministers and officials later today.
But what we have seen throughout - whether in the heroism of the ordinary citizens who fought off the attackers at London Bridge, the unbreakable resolve of the residents in Kensington, or this morning the spirit of the community that apprehended this attacker - is that this is an extraordinary city of extraordinary people.
It is home to a multitude of communities that together make London one of the greatest cities on earth.
Diverse, welcoming, vibrant, compassionate, confident and determined never to give in to hate.
These are the values that define this city. These are the values that define this country. These are the values that this government will uphold.
These are the values that will prevail."[Emphasis added]
Words that ring horribly hollow in the wake of Al Quds Day's incitement to antisemitism and the tolerance of extremists glorying in the hateful Hezbollah flag.

With this latest march the Al Quds Day organisers and their lily-livered enablers have descended into the very heart of darkness.  Moseley's British Union of Fascists, when they marched through the Jewish East End during the Devil's Decade of the 1930s, had at least the excuse of not knowing the ultimate depths to which antisemitism can lead.  Today's antisemites have no such excuse.  Nor do the authorities who tolerate this grotesque Jew-baiting and turn a blind eye to it in the name of the Appeasement of our time.

To quote Sapan Maini-Thompson here:
'.... A parade which features explicit racial incitement and sectarian militarism raises challenging questions concerning the legal limits of free speech. Firstly, it is remarkable that anti-Semitic exhortation is given police protection through Oxford Street. Secondly, it highlights a hole in extant anti-terror legislation. While the military wing of Hezbollah is proscribed in the UK, those adorning Hezbollah garb conveniently stapled themselves with leaflets expressing their solidarity with the political wing. This technicality is surely falsified by reality.
As Karl Popper astutely argued, ‘Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.’

Sex Slaves & Other Infidels: A Posse of Passionate Preachers (videos)

More lovable expositors of that Olde Tyme Religion.

First, the Hezbollah preacher informing of Israel's imminent demise.  (Come to think of it, he doesn't look too convinced!)

'In a TV interview, Lebanese cleric Hashem Safieddine, head of the Executive Council of Hizbullah, said that "Israel is closer than ever before to its demise" and warned that "the time for operations will come." When the interviewer asked whether Hizbullah was capable of entering the Galilee or "even further than the Galilee" with ground forces, Safieddine responded: "We have that capability. Of course." The interview aired on Mayadeen TV on August 8.'
Second, an Iraqi Shiite salivating about sex slaves:

'Iraqi Ayatollah Abdul Karim Al-Haeri, Director of the Karbala Hawza Shiite seminary, said in a video that after the arrival of the Mahdi, it would be permissible to take five or ten slave girls from among those who oppose the imam, and to offer them to friends for sex, when they come over.
Al-Haeri recommended this as a means to prevent marital problems: "If his wife asks him where he was, he has no problem [telling her he was with his friend]," he said.
Excerpts from the lecture were posted on April 7 on the Facebook page of Beith Al-Wujdan Al-Thaqafi, a group focused on enlightenment and extremism in the Arab and Islamic world.'
(Hey, Pope Francis, what in Christianity is analogous to this? .... Nu?  Nah, I don't think His Naive Holiness could provide a convincing answer, even if he tried to, do you?)

Third, a Kuwaiti alleging a Jewish-Masonic conspiracy:

'In a 2011 episode of his religious TV show, Kuwaiti preacher Nabil Al-Awadi claimed that there was a Jewish-Freemason conspiracy aimed at instilling un-Islamic messages in the mind of children through popular animated films. "The whole world has turned SpongeBob," he complained. "They are instilling the message that boys are wimps, sissies, and girlish, whereas girls are butch, strong, and masculine... Brothers, there is homosexuality in cartoons." Al-Awadi further said that "Jews are behind most of the American companies today." The show aired on Al-Watan TV on September 24, 2011.'

Sizer Talks About "The Zionist Lobby" To The International Quran News Agency

As Bibi Netanyahu remarked to Knesset members recently:
“Iran is a large empire. Its offshoots are arrayed throughout the Middle East. It sends them against us. It is in de facto control of Syria, it controls Lebanon, it controls half the Palestinians through Hamas. [Iran's rulers] have no interest in compromise or an agreement. They have the power to control any territory we withdraw from. Their goal is to remove us from here. That’s their publicly stated agenda ... Iranian nuclear weapons will threaten the existing peace treaties with our neighbors and [any] peace [achieved] with the half of the Palestinian people who are led by a government that is not calling for our destruction.
Who among us [Israeli politicians] doesn’t want peace? But we want a real, sustainable peace, not a temporary one. This peace will have to take into account the real forces that surround us: Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, [Islamic] Jihad, Al-Qaeda."

But for our old mate the Reverend Stephen Sizer (who of course is rather a favourite with the Iranian regime, and appears fairly regularly as a guest on its Press TV satellite propaganda channel)  the "Zionists," not the mullahs and their proxies, are the warmongers.

The Israel-bashing vicar spoke earlier this month to Javad Arabshirazi of the International Quran News Agency.  Here's part of the interview (I've added the emphasis):
Q: How do you evaluate resistance against US and European domination and confronting the Zionist regime in the statements and views of Ayatollah Khamenei?
A: Statements in themselves, however true or profound, have little impact. When those statements are translated into government policy and international relations they have influence. President Rouhani is having a profoundly positive effect on the West at the moment. He is undermining and discrediting the Zionist Lobby that is thirsting for war with Iran, by taking a conciliatory position that has integrity. He is building trust that I am sure President Obama will want to reciprocate.'

"Axis Of Evil": The Blarney & The Bitterness (video)

Here's a nasty little newly uploaded video showing snippets of sheer hatred by Irish extremists for both Britain and for Israel.

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign has the reputation of being the most extreme in (if I may use the term) the British Isles.  Need we be surprised, when we see the hateful sentiments here?

As for a true Axis of Evil, that's been identified by this Lebanese politician, who condemns Hezbollah as an occupying force in his country, and akin to Nazism and Fascism (hat tip: reader Rita).

Of course, many Israel-haters in the West proudly declare of themselves: "We are all Hezbollah now".  Figures.

"The Greatest Threat To Peace In The World Today Is The Iranian Regime": Shimon Peres (video)

"European Governments Must Move Now To Stigmatise Hezbollah & Its Activities, Vision & Goals"

It sure gets around: the Hezbollah flag on display in Sydney
The Times of London's sister newspaper, the Sunday Times, bungled badly when it carried, on Holocaust Memorial Day of all days, an ill-conceived anti-Netanyahu cartoon by Gerald Scarfe that's been widely compared to a blood libel.  But the centre-right Murdoch press is at core soundly pro-Israel, and yesterday's Times carried a robust op-ed by two of Europe's most prominent political figures, José Maria Aznar and David (Lord) Trimble.

Both founders of the splendid Friends of Israel initiative, the Spanish former prime minister and the Northern Irish former first minister caution against the perception that Hezbollah's activities and influence are confined to Lebanon or that its political and military wings are separate from one another.

They deplore the unwillingness of some European Union member-governments to consider Hezbollah a terrorist organisation:
'Jihadi terrorism is still alive and, as events in Mali and Algeria show us, poses a direct threat to us. The turmoil in North Africa reminds us that jihadism has no boundaries and that when confronting terrorism it is always better to prevent it rather than deal with its consequences....
[S]ome European governments are not willing to declare Hezbollah a security threat and put it on the EU terrorist list. This refusal is based on a misunderstanding of the nature of the group. Hezbollah is not just a Lebanese militia group and political party. It is the long arm of Iran. From its conception by Tehran in 1982, it has been committed to the revolutionary goals of the international expansion of Shia Islam, as dreamt of by the Ayatollah Khomeini....
[H]ezbollah has a global vision and reach. It has perpetrated attacks in places as distant as Argentina, Georgia, Israel, Thailand, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, as well as Lebanon....
Hezbollah is committed to violent revolution. It sees itself as being in total confrontation with our way of life. The idea that engaging Hezbollah through the Lebanese political process and institutions would moderate it has proved to be a dangerous illusion. And today it is actively intervening in Syria on behalf of Bashar Assad; we will know soon about the atrocities conducted by its militants there....
According to Israeli intelligence, Hezbollah’s arsenal of 10,000 rockets was halved by the war [of 2006]; but today it has been expanded to five times the original figure despite the UN mission.
As Iran gets more nervous about the impact of sanctions, the possibility that Tehran may counter-attack through its terrorist proxies has to be considered more serious by the day.... Putting Hezbollah on the terrorist list will diminish its ability to serve the sinister purposes of the ayatollahs in Tehran. ...
Hezbollah is already present and active on European soil; its illegal activities and networks cover the continent. It has shown that it is willing to strike in Europe. That is why European governments must move now to stigmatise Hezbollah and its activities, vision and goals...."
(The Times article is behind a pay wall, but the full text appears here)

Meanwhile, still on the subject of the European Union, the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency, which is funded by it, the British, Dutch, and Danish governments, and by UNESCO, has been hosting an antisemitic article authored by Sawsan Najib Abd Al-Halim, who says, inter alia:
".... Historically, it is known that the lives of Jews have always been war and fighting. The only reason for this is that they have been outcasts in every corner of the earth, and not one nation in the world respects them, for they cause strife, and scheme everywhere they settle. We know that they have been defeated in every war they have fought throughout history, and they have been dispersed in every direction, but Allah’s curse upon them and his fury at them cause them to continue with their transgression and tyranny....
Psychologically, they have been defeated through the ages and feel inferior to the nations and societies in which they live, because of the hostility and evil rising in their hearts towards others and for their plots and schemes against the nations who know with certainty that the Jews are the root of conflict in the world, wherever they reside....
Therefore, the only way we can deal with them, when we are weak militarily compared to Israel’s power, is to stick to the threat to annihilate Israel, not to submit to its [Israel's] desire for a cease fire, and keep the flame of resistance burning. Rather than [violently] resist and then back off somewhat, whereby we give them the impression that we are afraid of them. There is nothing wrong with our sitting with them to talk, but the resistance must always continue...."

Lee Kaplan On The ISM & On The Iran Regime's Influence In America (videos)

In the first video, articulate investigative journalist Lee Kaplan (whose eye-opening revelations regarding the machinations of the International Solidarity Movement and the plight of Lieutenant-Colonel Shalom Eisner, was the subject of my last blog) warns eloquently and persuasively about the International Solidarity Movement's dire threat to Israel.  The interview took place in Israel in 2010, and Kaplan lamented the Israeli government's apathetic response to the threat.

As one commenter remarked after viewing the original download on YouTube:
"The ISM has engaged in acts of terror throughout Israel and often engage in blacks ops specifically to blame local Jews. They have killed lifestock, destroyed trees and burnt crops. The ISM is a provocation and obstacle to peace , A friend of mine volunteering from Italy was told to dress like an Orthodox Jewish girl - then they filmed her harrassing palestinian children. Evil. Just evil "
Lee Kaplan takes an in-depth here at infiltrative activities in the United States linked to Iran and its proxy, Hezbollah.

Here's a taste in two parts, consisting of an interview Kaplan gave to Zia Atabay of NITV.

The Worldwide Cells That Are All Hezbollah Now

It's hard to contemplate unpleasant realities at the start of a new (Jewish) year, but, alas, it's not all sweetness and honey out there ...

An anti-Israel march in central London
I posted a few days ago about the aggressive "export-the-1979-Revolution" foreign policy that's being openly boasted of in ruling circles within Iran.

Thus a leading member of the country's elite, Hassan Rahimpour Azghadi, declared:

"Today we must get ready for a global operation, and our forces should expand their operation throughout the world.
And a general purpose march through Antwerp
Our fighters are present in all five continents of the world and will fight against imperialism everywhere. We must not fear anyone, and an international jihad must take place to prepare for the Coming [of the Twelfth Imam] ....
As [Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini] declared, we must destroy Israel and free Jerusalem.  We must take our fight into the heart of Europe, America, Africa, Asia ... and just as we helped with the Islamic movement in Lebanon and Gaza, soon there will be an Islamic Republic in Egypt."
Hot on the heels, as it were, of that chilling speech comes the revelation that with a view to creating the hegemony of Islam worldwide, Hezbollah has since 2006 been busily establishing jihadist cells under the direction of Mohammad Hussein Babai, a provincial commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, that among the countries already penetrated is the leader of the free world, and that some of the cells may be armed with "dirty bombs".

The Hezbollah flag in Oslo
To quote Babai:
"Today we are a witness to our power and authority in the world, and because of our Islamic Revolution [of 1979], now there is an Islamic Awakening that, with the leadership of the dear supreme leader, Ayatollah [Ali] Khamenei, will become stronger and more resilient."

In the light of such revelations, perhaps this lady's warnings don't sound so far-fetched after all, but take on an urgency that even the most politically correct liberal should heed ...

Stand by Your Guy!

On the London Daily Telegraph blogs over the weekend (blogs.telegraph.co.uk), Washington-based foreign affairs analyst and political commentator Nile Gardiner argued compellingly that British Foreign Secretary William Hague should sack Fadlallah-loving  Ambassador to Lebanon Frances Guy.

Compelling to all people of good sense, though not, it seems, to Hague and his Arabist FCO pals.  But it does seem that  Britain downgraded its diplomatic presence at Fadlallah's funeral - his ambassadorial admirer does not appear to have attended.

Another photo of the lady - in her Eastern bonnet - with the terror-promoting sheikh has just surfaced (hat tip: Derek Pasquill, commenting over at CiF Watch).  She sure seems to have enjoyed the old terror merchant's company, eh?

Enjoy! (If you can.)  Personally, I wonder whether it's totally necessary for the non-Muslim representative of a (once?) great power to cover her locks, obeisant-like, in this way.  Were she observing prayers in a mosque, I could understand it.  But in a secular setting?  Dhimmi - I mean dear me - no.

Britain's Beirut Envoy - another Foreign Office Arabist kind of Guy

There she sits, hunched forward,  her crowning glory hidden beneath a scarf, smilingly catching his every word.  Frances Guy, Britain's ambassador to Lebanon, and Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, the popular Shia cleric who passed away a few days ago.

Sheikh Fadlallah apparently had many sterling qualities -  his progressive view of women's role and status being just one of them - and attracted numerous admirers.

However, the man said to be Hezbollah's spiritual leader had less palatable views regarding Israel and the West.  He justified terror. He wanted Israel annihilated. For instance, he encouraged suicide bombers against the Jewish State, declaring that "All of Palestine is a war zone and every Jew who unlawfully occupies a house or land belonging to a Palestinian is a legitimate target.  There are no innocent Jews in Palestine."  He declared that Zionists had vastly exaggerated the number of Jews killed in the Holocaust. And he praised the deadly bombing of the United States Embassy in Beirut 27 years ago.

Notwithstanding all that, Ambassador Guy has blogged a eulogy for Sheikh Fadlallah, in which she reveals him as her "favourite politician" (hat tip: Elder of Ziyon).  In the course of that eulogy - headed "The passing of decent men" - she has not made any attempt to dissociate herself from his uncompromising attitude towards Israel.

Is this acceptable to the British Foreign Office - whose Arabist predilections are well-known though sometimes (weakly and implausibly) denied: that their envoy to one country should be permitted to express adulation for a politically influential  public figure of that country who advocates violence against the citizens of another country and, for good measure, that country's destruction?  A country that is an ally, no less, of Britain? Is this the shameful reality of Britain today?

[Update: Ms Guy's ill-conceived eulogy has now mysteriously disappeared into cyber heaven; however, a screen-shot of her extraordinary post may be viewed on Elder of Ziyon's blog, official Foreign and Commonwealth Office heading and all. ]

[Further update: as of Friday morning, the post is retrievable via Bing - but not Google.  Type her name into Bing and when the start of the post appears onscreen press Cached Page, and you'll get it all - except, that is, for the comments accompanying it.]

Blame Barbarism, not Bibi!

The agony and anger of Gilad Shalit's family is understandable; all normal hearts must bleed for them.  But blaming Bibi Netanyahu for their son's continued detention is unfair.  He has declared his government's willingness "to release 1000 Hamas prisoners, but not the most dangerous ones, and not to Judea and Samaria", from where they can attack Israelis again.  This is prudent; indeed, perhaps not prudent enough.

Many Israelis would caution against any deal with terrorists, recalling, for example, that the exchange in January 2004 of 400 Hezbollah prisoners for Elhanan Tannenbaum, kidnapped in Dubai in 2000 and taken to Lebanon, and for the bodies of three soldiers ambushed on the Israeli-Lebanese border, resulted in the subsequent deaths of around 30 Israelis at the hands of some of the beneficiaries of the deal.

Since the start of this century freed prisoners have murdered almost 180 Israelis, and have wounded and permanently incapacitated many more.  Hamas, responding to Netanyahu's offer, is insisting that before any deal can be done regarding Sergeant Shalit Israel must hand over 450 hard-core terrorists currently held; this is someting that the Israeli prime minister has declined to do, avowing that there is a price that Israel will not pay.  However painful this appears, it seems the correct course.  Bibi is not to blame for the impasse; a brutal and barbaric organisation with a mindset that would thrust us all back into the Dark Ages is.
