On so-called Al Quds Day, a massive mob of Muslims march with their banners and slogans condemning Israel.  At the head of the procession, a Neturei Karta nut is clearly visible, and later, amid the hijabbed hordes, a couple of western women are spotted ...

The chant "Glory, Glory, Palestine," adapted from Julia Ward Howe's "Battle Hymn of the Republic," provides a surreal touch ...

Manchild in George's Promised Land

As Britain goes to the polls, an article by a journalist and pundit called Ben Judah begins:

This is what I think as I drive into Bradford.

In two hour’s time I will be punched in the head.

The squinty moon-face of one of Britain’s most ferocious orators glares from the street posters, capped by a black fedora.

... George Galloway has turned the constituency of Bradford West into his own world, catapulting into parliament as a Muslim-grievance politician from Britain’s most Islamic city.

Galloway, a former Labour Party MP, has got his seat by using anti-Zionist rhetoric, whilst suing critics who say he is anti-Semitic. His political genius is to have twigged that Bradford’s multiculturalism is a mirage: He now plays the city’s Pakistani clan politics, of family controlled votes, for power.

British civility has collapsed in Bradford’s elections.

The Labour Party is reported to have struggled to choose a candidate without the acquiescence of the Kashmiri clan dominating its local branch, and supporters of its eventual candidate Naz Shah have received menacing threats — like the dead crow, its mouth stuffed with grass, she found on her doorstep.

Bradford has also earned a reputation in Britain as unfriendly to Jews — a place where a journalist who walked the streets in a skullcap in March was almost immediately abused.

Galloway, who heads something called the Respect Party, has declared the city “an Israel-free zone.”

I drive through Gallowayland.

The leader of the Respect Party calls Bradford “the city of gold,” and has been going around the city in an old Rolls Royce, or an open-top double-decker bus fluttering with Pakistani and Palestinian flags.

I drive around shuttered industrial yards, cramped terraces of rising damp, and boarded-up pubs, their roofs sprouting with plants.

Respect has told me they are holding a “rally” in the community hall of St. Martin’s Church that I may attend as a journalist.

In Britain's Bradford, BDSer "Brothers" Keep It Up For 150 Days ...

Why the celebratory mood?

It's because anti-Israel elements in the West Riding city, traditionally a centre of England's woollen industry,  have just chalked up 150 days of protesting outside a McDonald's restaurant there.

Here's local Respect MP Gorgeous George, waxing enthusiastic about the "Brothers – and Sisters" in November, four days before the 100th day anniversary of the protest.

Notes George, in upbeat tones:

"They've had a fantastic success rate.  Police have to be here 24 hours a day ... costing the taxpayer a right few good quid ..."

The restaurant management and staff can be forgiven for seeing things rather differently.  Back in August, the Bradford Telegraph & Argus reported:

'.... Duncan Taylor, who has the franchise for the McDonald's at Thornbury, says the flag and banner-waving protests have hit the store hard but it is not just the tills that have been affected.

Mr Taylor, who also has the McDonald's at Kirkgate and Forster Square as well as two in Sheffield, said demonstrators have been outside the Thornbury business everyday since August 1 "unfairly targetting" it.

He says takings are down considerably and he is having to cut workers' hours meaning they take less home for their families although he is trying to find them more work at his other branches.

Mr Taylor has met the protesters to explain he is an independent business and the UK franchises deal with McDonald's UK arm and have no contact whatsoever with the US parent company.

He said:

 "I just want business as usual. I'm being unfairly targeted, it's been a nightmare. We've explained this to them, we've had a meeting. We are being caught up in the crossfire so to speak.

"I feel really sorry for my staff who are losing hours because of this, it's hard on them and their families. They are also being abused by the protesters,they've had eggs thrown at them.

"Some of the protesters have also been shouting at customers and jumping in front of cars to stop people from coming in. I have reported this to the police who do come up. I don't want to make any of this worse but I wanted to put the record straight." [Emphasis added]

Mr Taylor said his McDonald's franchise is a major sponsor of Bradford City's Disabled Football Team.

"We work very hard with the community, from sponsorship of a local football team to helping with litter-picks and cleaning up graffiti."

He said his Forster Square branch was also feeling the pinch with a noticeable reduction in the number of Asian [sic; he was probably not referring to Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and persons from SE Asia] customers visiting it, there have also been protests outside the McDonald's in Ingleby Road, Girlington.

A McDonald's UK spokesman said:

 “As a company that operates in more than 1,200 communities in the UK, we respect employees and customers from all backgrounds.

"McDonald’s UK does not donate to the Jewish United Fund or any political organisations and refutes any suggestion that we have taken a position related to ongoing political or religious conflicts.” ...'

The paper added:

'The Bradford protesters have not just been targetting McDonald's in the city, they have also gathered outside Tesco and Sainsbury's stores.

In one protest outside Tesco Express in Otley Road, Undercliffe, earlier this month about 30 men, women and children gathered outside for about six-hours with banners and leaflets denouncing Israel and the supermarket giant, earlier they had been at the Tesco in Canal Road urging people to sound their car horns in support of forcing the store chain to take Israeli goods off its shelves. [Emphasis added]

Despite protests it seems supermarkets in Bradford are standing firm and are are not giving in to demonstrators....

A Tesco spokesman said: “Like all major UK retailers, we sell some products that are sourced from Israel. We do this in line with the Government position on trade with Israel, and we mark all products clearly with the country of origin, so customers can make informed choices about what to buy.”....

[A Sainsbury's] spokesman said: "As a non-political organisation, Sainsbury's would never take such a decision on grounds other than ensuring the quality or safety of our

States Hasan Faridi's Yorkshire Standard:

'....  Dozens have been gathering on a daily basis outside the eatery on Thornbury Road to “educate people about companies that support, fund or trade with Israel”.

Spokesperson for the protesters, Faisal Mohammed, said: “In 150 days, we’ve seen a minimum of 4,000 people turn away. A lot of regulars who used to come don’t come anymore and we’re seeing mainly new faces.

“It feels good to have got to this stage. We came together as individuals who barely knew each other but now it has progressed a lot more.

“We can’t see any breaks coming to the train of the boycott campaign and I can only see it bigger.” ....

A spokesperson from McDonald’s said: “We respect the right to protest outside our restaurants, but we ask that this is carried out peacefully and is not disruptive to our customers and employees.

“The safety and security of our customers and employees is our top priority and we will continue to work with the local police and community to ensure that any protests are conducted in a safe and peaceful manner.”

Local police have been monitoring the protests.'

"We Are Speaking Of A Network": A Malicious Game of Join The Dots

The following piece (entitled "The Cold War On The Truth") by that stalwart British champion of Israel Jonathan Hoffman (widely praised by those who despair of the lily-livered approach that characterises too much of the Anglo-Jewish "leadership" for his leonine courage or bulldog tenacity - take your pick!) is cross-posted, with his permission, from the Jewish Chronicle blogs.

'The MEMO [Middle East Monitor] meeting in the House of Commons on Tuesday night ("The Cold War On British Muslims") has been well covered by Tom Wilson on Harry’s Place and by Richard Millett.

I was there too and found the meeting profoundly depressing and not only because Parliament played host to such an anti-intellectual event. The fact is that there are reasons for British Muslims to be under closer surveillance by the security services than Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians or Plymouth Brethren. Namely, the July 2005 bombings that were detonated by British Muslims; the "underpants bomber" Abdulmutallab who was President of UCL [University College London] Islamic Society; the failed nightclub bomb in Haymarket in June 2007; the failed plot to blow up airliners in August 2006; and many other similar incidents and arrests.

But instead of squarely facing up to the issues of extremism all we got was conspiracy theorising and scapegoating. First Dr Daud Abdullah, the director of MEMO, said darkly "we are speaking of a network".

And who is that network? Why, two think tanks: Policy Exchange and the Centre for Social Cohesion (CSC). They according to Abdullah were responsible for increasing the pressure on Muslims, in particular for the government’s reassessment of the "Prevent" programme which was said to have increased surveillance of Muslims.

(In fact the reassessment is supposed to address the situation whereby "Prevent" was giving a platform to extremists in the mistaken view that militant Islamists were an antidote to Al Qaeda (in reality they are a conveyer belt to Al Qaeda)).

And then came the bizarre "join the dots" Danse Macabre. Professor David Miller and two colleagues spoke about their study The Cold War On Brisih Muslims which was launched at the meeting. The Report looked at the funding of Policy Exchange and the CSC. Both draw on a wide range of funders. Policy Exchange is funded inter alia by the Peter Cruddas Foundation, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, Lord Ashcroft and Richard Briance. The CSC is financed by the John Templeton Foundation, the Nigel Vinson Charitable Trust and the New Heritage Foundation.

But if you had been at the presentation you would not have realised that the range of funders for these two thinktanks was so broad. You would think that they were funded entirely by pro-Israel Jewish businessmen. Thus we got from Tom Mills only a cursory reference to the Peter Cruddas Foundation (the largest funder of Policy Exchange). The only funders Mills seemed to be interested in were those with an Israel connection. So we were treated to a forensic dissection of the Israel- and Jewish Community-related philanthropy of the Charles Wolfson Family Trust, the Rubin Foundation, the Stanley Kalms Foundation and the Traditional Alternatives Foundation.

Obvious takeaway message: Muslims are being victimised by certain think tanks – in particular by the policies they recommend. Those think tanks are funded by rich Jewish businessmen who also fund Israel-related causes. So the sources of the victimisation of Muslims are pro-Israel rich Jewish businessmen.

If the possible social consequences of indoctrinating young Muslims with this drivel was not so tragic, this malicious "join the dots" parlour game played out in the Palace of Westminster would be laughable.

But as it is, it is an utter disgrace - and to have a Professor at a UK University associate himself with it and preside over such a presentation is unspeakable.'
