Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

"Pro-Terrorist" Gazan Singer on Stage: Shame the Theatre, Shame the City of London?

Not London, England, where since 29 September antisemitic incitement has been at work on stage.  For there, as widely known by now,  the Young Vic theatre company has been performing the squalid propaganda piece My Name is Rachel Corrie.

(For that particular piece of anti-Israel mischief, inspired by the demonic International  Solidarity Movement, see Jonathan Hoffman here and Melanie Phillips here and, in a splendid twist inspired by Richard Millett, David Collier here)

Rather, London, Ontario.

The singer referred to is the 2013 Arab Idol winner Mohammed Assaf, from Gaza, who's presently in Canada on a five-city concert tour and will be on stage in London this coming Sunday night.

Here's David Menzies of Ezra Levant's TheRebel.media reviewing some of Mr Assaf's off-stage activities, and requesting signatures for a petition to be presented at the theatre on Sunday.

Writes David Menzies in introducing his petition (that's in bold type below):
'Assaf’s music is explicitly pro-terrorist.
For example, his song, “Ya Yumma”, is one long propaganda video promoting violence against Israel. While showing videos of riots against Jews, Assaf calls on Muslims to rise up and “fight the occupiers”. He calls terrorists “martyrs” and tells young Palestinians to “fight back” to conquer Jerusalem.
And if you think that’s bad, on his Facebook page — that has 10 million followers — Assaf posts pictures of terrorists who attack Jews, and calls them “holy martyrs”. No wonder when Assaf first arrived in Canada this week, he was greeted by Nazih Khatatba — a Holocaust denier.
So what can we do?
I don’t believe in censorship, even for bigots like Assaf.
But I can think of two things we need to do right now.
1. On Sunday night, Assaf is performing at Centennial Hall in London, Ontario. That’s owned by the city.
I want to deliver a massive petition to Centennial Hall’s management on Sunday night, with thousands of names of Canadians who object to a pro-terrorist singer swanning through Canada. I want London’s city council to know the kind of company they’re keeping.
2. I want to show London the truth about Assaf — including any concert-goers who might not know how odious he is.
I’ve rented a billboard truck. It’s like a jumbotron from a sports venue, but it’s on the back of a truck!
And we can program it with words, pictures, anything. I want to load it up with facts about Assaf, and drive it around the city before the concert — showing citizens the truth. And confronting concert-goers with those facts, too.
The cost of the petition is free, obviously — please sign it by clicking below. I’ll deliver it on Sunday night.
The cost of the truck is about $1,600, plus gas money to and from London for me and my camera man. All told, we’ll probably need about $1,800 to do this — can you please help me out?
That’s my plan — it respects freedom of expression. But it shames Centennial Hall and its owners, the City of London. And it forces Assaf’s concert-goers to come face to face with their star’s hate.
If you agree with my plan, please sign the petition below.
We object to Mohammed Assaf, whose music promotes terrorism, performing in Canada. His glamorization of hatred and violence is not welcome here.'
UPDATE:  As this video from The Rebel.com shows, David Menzies was prevented by security guards from delivering his petition, containing 3000 names, at the theatre, and had to pop it through the letterbox at City Hall instead.  He did manage to interview a number of concert-goers, including (from about 6:30) a gentleman who suggested that the Holocaust was the work of "Israeli leaders themselves".

Brats & Braves (videos)

For anyone who has not yet seen them in all their infantile shame, Israel-hating brats at the University of California at Irvine use bully boy tactics to disrupt a meeting and silence a speaker.  The totalitarian Left in action once again.

In Toronto, a chanting kid on a grown-up's back leads the anti-Israel protest.  Pro-Israel demonstrators face the mob, with its obscene and very telling cries of "From the River to the Sea ..."

At Algerian Immigrant's Behest, Canadian Cafe Removes Israeli Flag (video)

An Algerian immigrant to Canada objects to the Israeli flag being hung along with other world flags.  No problem.  The staff at this eatery understand perfectly.  To oblige the Israel-hater, they unhesitatingly take it down.

Not sure of the venue.  Perhaps someone will enlighten me.

In Montreal, A Comedian With A Megaphone (video)

In Montreal, with a little help from a friend from New York (and on Shabbos, tut tut) the boys from Neturei Karta come out to play:

I guess the comedian with the megaphone has never heard of historic Islamic antisemitism, the Battle of Khaybar, the deliberate humiliations of dhimmitude and jizya for the sake of Muslim supremacism.

More fun and games to be seen here

Speaking of Muslim supremacism, here's a new article by Raymond Ibrahim, describing disturbing manifestations outside the Muslim world.

Meanwhile, the president of the World Jewish Congress has condemned the outrageous proposal before UNESCO to have the Western Wall declared part of Al-Aqsa Mosque:
“For thousands of years, Jews have lived and prayed in Jerusalem. Since 1967, the State of Israel has safeguarded the right of worship of all three monotheistic religions present in Jerusalem, including the right of Muslims to pray on the Mount.
However, declaring the Western Wall of the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest place, a Muslim site would be a travesty. Instead of fostering peace, it would only encourage extremists to step up their campaign against Jews, both in Israel and beyond.
Everybody should see that this is not about protecting holy sites; it’s about bashing Israel, it’s about sowing the seeds of strife, and it’s about legitimizing violence. It must be stopped.”
More on that here

A Blue and White Flag To A Crowd of Bull[er]s (video)

In a video at the end of my previous blog we saw what happened to a brave woman in Montreal who raised the Israeli flag in a tricky spot.

Here's Iraqi-born pro-Israel hero Orim Shimshon's lucky escape in Londonistan on Al Quds Day:

And here, by the way, is footage  of a demo by Muslims in London, angry at both Israel and the Nigerian government. The footage takes a dramatic turn at about 6:02 when a backpack-toting guy in a cream jacket enters the frame. He appears at first glance to be one of the protesters.  But then he opens his mouth...

Alone She Faced Them, One Brave Woman & Her Israeli Flag

Watch this video of the anti-Israel rally in Melbourne yesterday, and see how the ferals reacted when they spotted a woman bearing an Israeli flag running between the tramlines.

Meanwhile, the usual screeching was taking place:

More footage of the rally (note the heavy leftist involvement) here

Londonistan rallies again

So do the usual suspects in Auckland, New Zealand (ever noticed that it's very often a hysterical-sounding lefty female who leads the raucous chanting at these sorts of anti-Israel parades?)

Divesting, Demonising – & In Decline: The Ultra-Liberal Churches That Are Targeting Israel

Photo: Joshua Lott, New York Times
This is a guest blog by Professor William D. Rubinstein:

A few days ago, the Presbyterian Church (USA) voted to divest its investments in three companies doing business with Israel on the West Bank.  The vote (310:303) was extremely narrow.  At the same time, the church voted to endorse “gay” marriage.  I don’t agree with either action, but as I am not a member of that church its actions are none of my business.

However, in this guest blog I would like to highlight a number of important characteristics of some mainstream Protestant churches such as the Presbyterian Church (USA) which may not be known to many readers, and focus on two such churches in particular.

These characteristics are:
(a)    Each is a small, now ultra-liberal Protestant denomination;
(b)   Each is obsessed with Israel’s alleged crimes, while utterly failing to criticise far worse and more barbaric activities by other countries, especially in the Islamic world;
(c)    Most importantly, each of these denominations is rapidly and demonstrably losing membership, to the extent that they may well disappear.
The Presbyterian Church (USA) was once a fairly conservative mainstream Protestant sect, deriving from Scotland in the Reformation.  Fifty years ago, it would obviously not have endorsed either policy referred to above.  As it has shrunk in size and importance, the church – like many others of a similar type – has moved ever further to the Left, losing ever more of its conservative members.

Israel is absolutely central to the church's current foreign demonology, not North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or (God forbid) Cuba.  One might imagine that this focus is due to the age-old, inglorious tradition of Christian antisemitism, and although this may well be a component of the church's stance, it would be more accurate to see it as a facet of the church’s anti-conservative, anti-American, anti-Western world-view, especially since it ignores the barbarism carried out every day in the Islamic world.

The main point I want to highlight here, however, is that the Presbyterian Church (USA) is, literally, dying on its feet.  Its membership has declined (see Wikipedia) from 3,101,000 in 1984 to 1,176,000 in 2013.  In 2012 and 2013 alone, it lost over 10 per cent of its total membership.  According to one church spokesman in 2013, “projections are for an anticipated loss of perhaps 500,000 members over the next three-four years, about 25 per cent of the denomination’s membership”.

Any business with this record of abject failure would, of course, sack its entire management at the first opportunity, and adopt an entirely new business model.  Not so the Presbyterians.  The more they jump on every looney-left bandwagon that rolls along, the emptier their pews become, a fact obviously not lost on whoever is in charge of this church.

Then there is the United Church of Canada, a merger of the Methodists, Congregationalists, and some Presbyterians.  Its website is a veritable pastiche of every conceivable leftwing “politically correct” bandwagon that happens on by.  “Happy World Pride”, given prominent space, turns out to be an endorsement of the “International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia”.  “The United Church of Canada Celebrates World Pride Day”, it proclaims.  “The Truth and Reconciliation Commission” (á lá post-Apartheid South Africa) is “a comprehensive response to the legacy of [Canadian American] Indians".  And so it goes: “Fast For The Climate”, “Call For Justice For Victims of Extrajudicial Killings”, automatic opposition to the Canadian pipeline, and so on.

You guessed it: only one foreign policy issue figures prominently on their website, and it ain’t North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, or Cuba.  Members of the church are called upon “to take concrete action to support the end of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories”.  What is highly questionable is the highlighting of this conflict itself, and the utter silence of the church about, say, the enormities and barbarities carried out on a daily basis throughout the Islamic world against women, non-Muslims, Muslims of the wrong sect, political dissidents, and virtually everyone else – the usual double standards of the left-liberal politically correct brigade throughout the West.

Indeed, in 2012 the church voted in favour of BDS as triumphantly reported on Press TV, to which the church kindly gave a statement.  There is more on its BDS activities here and on its history, embraced causes, numerical decline (see below), and attitude to Israel here.

Canada is a democracy, and if the United Church of Canada wants to endorse BDS or anything else, that’s its own business.  What is striking, as in the case of the US Presbyterians, is that this church is losing members at a rapid and ever-increasing rate of decline.  According to Wikipedia, the church’s membership peaked in 1964 at 1.1million.  By 2008, it had a membership of 525,000, less than half of its membership in the 1960s, with only 200,000 attending on a regular basis.  By 2010, the membership had fallen to 490,000.  According to one analyst, “it lost 55 per cent of its members while Canada’s population grew 78 per cent”.

The last Canadian census showed that two million people claimed to belong to this denomination, but the next time most of them are likely to attend a service is when they are the only person in the room unable to hear the eulogy delivered in their honour.

That church’s consistent left-wing orientation has not escaped the attention of the Canadian press and commentators, with many critics condemning the church’s stance.  “The United Church [Is] Little More Than a Left-Wing Club”, one columnist noted in The Calgary Herald (24 August 2012), and many other similar opinions are available online.  “Canada’s United Church: Christianity? Or Now Simply Another left-Wing Activist Cult?” goes one.

Here's a relevant video, highlighting the church's hypocritical double standards where Israel is concerned:

I suppose that, within a generation or so, this church will virtually disappear.  Many will say “Good riddance”.  What is true of this church is also true of most other ultra-liberal Protestant denominations throughout the West.  The points made here could be multiplied a dozen times.  As to the Canadian scene, to quote Wikipedia: “Non-denominational churches and conservative denominations like the Assemblies of God and Christian Missionary Alliance are growing.”

(Daphne adds: See the US Presbyterian Church's Facebook page where it is getting angry messages from Jews and Xians alike to its recent vote; more opposition outlined here and here. In view of the widely shown photo at the top of this post [credit: Joshua Lott, for New York Times] of jubilant Israel-haters shown in the the throes of a seemingly orgasmic thrill over the gift from the church of a shoddy BDS victory, it's not surprising that some pro-Israel elements on Facebook and elsewhere are reminding them that to be true Israel-boycotters they'll have to forsake their computers!  Below: crowing over the Presbyterian vote on, of all things, the propaganda channel of that notable abuser of human and Christian rights, the Islamic Republic of Iran!)

"Zionists Are taking Over The Canadian Government"

Earlier this month Israel, having already released numerous very ruthless characters with blood on their hands,  announced that it would not, after all, release the final batch of Palestinian prisoners due to be set at liberty under the terms of a controversial undertaking aimed at kick-starting the peace process.

In consequence, a variety of anti-Israel chants, with Netanyahu being compared to Hitler, have been heard in splendidly pro-Israel prime minister Stephen Harper's Canada over the past few days, from protesters waving the Palestinian flag (not a maple leaf in sight, apparently) and Elias Hazineh (he's the guy who last year told an "A' Quds day" rally in Toronto that Israeli Jews  refusing to leave "Palestine" should be shot) was on hand to enthuse the crowd.

Jonathan Halevi explains:
'The Palestine House marked the “Palestinian Political Prisoners' Day” in series of events, including a demonstration in front of the Israeli consulate in Toronto (April 17, 2014) [video clip here], vigil dedicated to Palestinian political prisoners in front of the Israeli consulate (April 18), panel discussion and a movie screening at United Steelworkers Hall (April 19) and letter writing night at Beit Zatoun (April 20).
The demonstration was organized with coordination with the following organizations Beit Zatoun (a cultural and activism centre in Toronto purporting “to explore issues of social justice and human rights, both locally and internationally”), Coalition Against Israeli Apartheid (CAIA), Canada Palestine Association (CPA), International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN), Independent Jewish Voices (IJV), Not In Our Name (NION), Queers Against Israeli Apartheid (QUAIA), Stop the War Coalition (STWC), United Network for Justice and Peace in Palestine/Israel (UNJPPI), Women in Solidarity with Palestine (WSP)....
The demonstrators, who gathered (April 17) in front of the Israeli consulate in Toronto, demanded the immediate release of ALL Palestinian prisoners from the Israeli jails. They described them as “political prisoners” and “our heroes” ....
Elias Hazineh, former President of the Palestine House, attended the demonstration. He warned the Canadians of the Zionist menace to Canada by saying loudly the following:
“Zionists are taking over Canada. They are taking over our government. Zionism is racism and they are taking over our government. Zionism is racism. Zionists are taking over our government. Zionists are taking over the Canadian government. Zionists are taking over the Canadian government. The Zionist movement is a racist movement. It is taking over our government. The Zionists are taking over our government. The Zionists are taking over our government. Be careful, wake up Canada, wake up, Zionists are taking over the country.” ....'
For much more, on both the protesters and some of the "political" prisoners they support (including the mass murderer serving 67 life sentences who first practised his deadly skills by blowing the head off an already-abused donkey) see Jonathan Halevi's graphic post here
