Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

Whom The Gods Would Destroy: UK Jewish Students Cancel Appearance By Pro-Israel Activist

Remember my blog post here? Well, a new chapter in the "Sad Old State of Cloud Cuckoo Land" is unfolding thanks to a bunch of jelly babies on campus.

Attorney Brooke Goldstein, director of the New York-based Lawfare Project, which specialises in challenging lawsuits mounted in the West by Arab dictatorships and Islamic extremists, has been touring Britain with a comparable organisation, UK Lawyers for Israel.  She has addressed attendees at a reception at the House of Commons hosted by the Henry Jackson Society, as well as students at two London University campuses.

However, the Jewish Chronicle reports that Leeds University Jewish Society has cancelled, with just a couple of days' notice, her appearance there, apparently on the grounds that she gave legal advice to Geert Wilders when he faced trial for "Islamophobia".

Ms Goldstein is quoted as saying, inter alia, that the Leeds students are
"trying to prevent me from speaking about how we defend their rights, as someone who advocates on their behalf. I think it's disgraceful, it's Orwellian...."
London barrister Jonathan Turner, who heads UK Lawyers for Israel,  is reported as observing that it is
"absurd to deny a platform to a speaker on the grounds that she has supported freedom of speech for Wilders and others, especially when she was not even intending to talk about Wilders. On the same basis, one would deny a platform to Alan Dershowitz, who has supported freedom of speech for the Ku Klux Klan."
And that stalwart Zionist leader Jonathan Hoffman, who needs no introduction to regular readers of my blog, comments with customary vigour:
"Just as Benny Morris was cancelled by Cambridge Israel Society in Feb 2010, we witness spineless Jewish students crumbling in the face of false charges of Islamophobia. Meanwhile, in the Alice In Wonderland topsy-turvy world of British academia, Palestinian societies are free to host the most outrageous antisemitic extremists. Thus Brooke Goldstein gets labelled as an extremist while Ken O'Keefe is given legitimacy."
Well said, sir!

How very very sad, how very very disturbing, that Anglo-Jewry's Trembling Israelites are raising another generation of the lily-livered.

How does that old saying go? Quem deus vult perdere, dementat prius ("Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad") ...

  1. This is simply sad..so very sad..

But if you really think there isn't a large part of the Jewish population worldwide that is exactly like these useless children then you are sadly mistaken. As I have mentioned my oldest wanted to do some pro-Israel outreach on his US campus and the Jewish student's Union would have none of it.

  2. Sometimes I get soooooooooooooooooo discouraged by simply READING about all this, that I just feel like throwing the arms in the air and making some sounds like arrrgggghhhhh. If I, as a semi-vocal bystander, and not a very courageous one at that, feel like this, how despairing must those courageous guys feel, who openly fight against this cancerous effluent, day after day!

What makes me feel worse is that although I fear that I know where all this will lead to, the prospect of being able to say "I told you so" holds no consolation whatsoever.

The only hope we have is that this global "leftisation" (the "left" are the herd now, like the "right" were the herd then) stops and that the sheep will finally shout "We have had enough, we will not take it any more" and mean it!

    end of rant.

  6. In the US, in UNC Chapel Hill (North Carolina), the 'Berkeley of the East', Hillel sponsored the Muslim Students Association to host an anti Israel/anti Semitic diatribe event. This was this week while the rockets were falling on Israel. I think it's pointless to try to understand that any more than its pointless to try to understand any other murderous psychopatic cult. We don't really care WHY the Jonestown massacre occured, we simply shake our heads. This is like that.

    1. I agree with your statement about UNC, bu I do try to understand why college campuses in the US and elsewhere sponsor anti-Israel and thinly veiled anti-Semitic events. I do care why this occurs. When I shake my head, I am wondering how these kids were raised to reach young adulthood with no understanding of Jewish history and with apparently no connection to the Jewish state. The lack of parental, community and by community I mean Jewish social and religious organization outcry about these events occurring on campus tells me everything I need to know about why.

I don't liken this to Jonestown. I think it harkens back to Europe in the 1930's when German Jews thought it would all go away and everything would be OK if they didn't make a fuss. I think that this is like that.

  7. Maybe, just maybe, if Zionists stopped dropping white phosphorus on Palestinian children, and Jewish supremacists stopped defending such actions. You might be a bit more popular.

    Just a thought.

    1. Maybe you should keep your imaginary crimes to yourself, Anon.
Have a look through Goldstone, that never happened, only unconfirmed reports. The only confirmed injury from WP was:
“At least three shells hit the Gaza Training Centre and caused light injuries to one staff member.” (pg133)
It’s not about being “popular”, it about right and wrong, and you are always wrong.

Try and find this reported in the western media.

  8. This started a few years ago when Jake Witzenfeld of Cambridge uni JSoc disinvited Benny Morris under pressure from the Palestinian society . Somewhat naievelly he believed the gesture would be reciprocated . It wasn't . The Pal Society continued to invite extremist hate speakers .
Now we have the unedifying spectacle of Liverpool J Soc displaying Palestinian flags and t shirts . Most of
Our students are unaware of the full history of the I/ P conflict . Not understanding leaves them vulnerable to organisations such as Yachad who take a left wing position the main thrust is that Israel must return to the suicide borders of 67 . No context of why Israel now occupies the West Bank and no mentioning the fact that this will not lead to an irrevocable Peace Treaty with the Palestinians who maintain their ROR regardless of any treaty .
Our students are intimidated by radical Palestinian societies and have no desire to confront their lies and hate .
I'm sure they would much rather dispense with all the politics and return to dispensing hummus and tachina as part of the social ritual . It's cheaper than going on J Date !
There is a vacuum . Yachad and others have stepped in and are now doing the work of the Pal society and the bds movement for them .
Shame on all of us for our apathy in allowing this parlous state of affairs to happen under our noses .

  9. I'm afraid they'll be reaping what their craven behaviour has sown, long before they have children of their own, Pip.
