Egg on Their Faces

Whatever Palestinian  murderous terrorist Marwan Barghouti (Al Beeb's sanitised "profile" of him here) is eating in his Israeli prison cell, he's certainly got egg on his face with this candid camera gone-viral footage, since he's the purported leader of a hunger strike of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli gaols.

And that egg is now on the faces of all hoodwinked by him.

People like these, who in support of the hunger strikers (hardly the innocents they are represented to be) made the video below of a display of Palestinian art projected onto the outside of the Tate Modern art gallery in London (yes, Barghouti's image is there somewhere) in which at the outset the dirge-like tones of  the narrator talks of "Israeli occupation dungeons"!

 Following the revelation that convicted terrorist and supposed strike-leader Barghouti has been caught secretly eating, Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan stated: 

"As I said from the very beginning, this hunger strike was never about the conditions of the convicted terrorists, which meet international standards. It is about advancing Marwan Barghouti's political ambitions to replace Abu Mazen. Barghouti is a murderer and hypocrite who urged his fellow prisoners to strike and suffer while he ate behind their back. Just like he lied to the world when he wrote in the New York Times that he decided to strike in order to protest ill-treatment, he lied to the Palestinian public when he claimed to be striking. Israel will not give in to extortion and pressure from terrorists."

A French Oleh on Israel's Miracle & What Europe Might Learn from it

Coincidentally yet not inappropriately on the day France goes to the polls, here's a guest blog by French oleh Jean Vercors.

'On the evening of Monday, May 1st, we celebrated Yom Ha'atzmaut, the 69th anniversary of the State of Israel. The return of the Jewish people to its ancestral land is a real miracle; it regains its sovereignty in Israel on May 14, 1948, the 5th Iyar of the year 5708 of the Hebrew calendar.
 
Surprisingly, the month of Iyar is the only month that bears a Hebrew name, the other months being Aramaic.

The Book of Kings calls it ziv (1 Kings 6: 1 and 6:37), or "shine," for it is the moment when the trees shine with all their "splendor" (Rashi and Radaq).

According to Rabbi Yehoshua, the patriarchs Abraham and Jacob were born during the month of Nissan, which brought new light to the world (in Hebrew zohar, ziv in Aramaic). And it was the following month, that of iyar, which first benefited from this new era of light following their coming into the world (Rosh hashana 11a).
 
The miracle began with the Lovers of Zion (Hebrew: בבובבי ציון, Hovevei Tsion), a popular, social and national Jewish movement that was active between the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century and aimed at renewal from the people of Israel, through the return to Zion and the reconstruction of their homeland.

Then it was successive Aliyot (to ascend) that built the nation and made the new desert become the start-up nation, where 20 per cent of the foreign companies listed at the NASDAQ are Israelis. 

Another miracle.
 
According to the essence and faith, to the people, to the return of its natural state and to the definition of the Maharal of Prague, the normality of a people must meet three conditions:

1-He must live on his land, 
2-Free and independent,
3-Together in non-dispersed.
 
The prophet Ezekiel (chapter 28): 

"'This is what the Sovereign Lord says: When I gather the people of Israel from the nations where they have been scattered, I will be proved holy through them in the sight of the nations. Then they will live in their own land, which I gave to my servant Jacob. They will live there in safety, they will build houses and plant vines."

 Indeed, there is a great mitzvah to inhabit the land of Israel. According to Rashi and Rambam, this is a mitzvah of the Torah, the Torah is Zionist, and Hashem is Zionist.

Since the end of the 19th century, it has been a series of miracles. Despite a hostile and chaotic neighborhood, Israel continues to grow. It's great to be a free and independent country for 69 years.
 
The Jewish national calendar of Israel is embellished with new festivals that Israel has placed at the center of its national Jewish consciousness and which define the most important moments of the year of Israeli society.
 
Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Memorial Day), Yom Hazikaron (Day of Remembrance of Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism) and Yom Ha'atzmaut (Independence Day) celebrate the celebrations in a single week.

Independence Day is a celebration of the renewal of the Jewish state on the land of Israel, the birthplace of the Jewish people.
 
In the land, the Jewish people began to develop its distinctive religion and culture some 4,000 years ago, and little is known about it, has retained an unbroken physical presence there, for centuries as a sovereign state, as formerly under domination Foreign exchange.

Throughout its long history, the desire to return to its land has been at the center of Jewish life. 

Theodor Herzl, leader and founder of the Zionist movement, kindled international recognition for the need for a Jewish state.
 
Since its creation, Israel continues to be a homeland for the thousands of people who come to live there each year. All its citizens enjoy the same democratic rights delimited by the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel.

Despite terrorist attacks and threats of war, Israel creates and innovates every day in every field, whether medical, scientific, or high-tech.
 
The small agricultural nation that declared its independence 69 years ago is today a superpower, the 8th largest in the world, a world leader in the fields of biotechnology, the environment, and very present in the field of culture And art.

On Yom Ha'atzmaut we express our political independence and our security.
 
As Rav Kook has stated, Jewish nationalism does not depend on the state; The basis of our nationality is our spiritual holiness.  He writes :

"There are righteous people, philosophers, and holy men in the world, but there is no nation whose inherent soul can be fulfilled only by the purpose of the divine plan in the world - other than Israel.

Individuals are everywhere, but an entire nation that represents G-d does not exist. It is our uniqueness.

Since the days of the Hasmoneans (Greek Domination, 32 to -142), for nearly 70 generations, until the liberation of part of the land of our ancestors in our war of independence and the restoration of a Jewish state within its borders, no new holiday  has been added to our annual cycle of joyful days. 

The return of Israel to the land of his ancestors is predicted in the Bible: 'Hashem Your Lord shall bring you into the land which your fathers have possessed, and ye shall possess it "(Deut. 30: 5).

In other words, on the day of Yom Ha'atzmaut, I must not only remember the past, but I must strengthen my present with the same energy that is renewed in the universe at this precise moment. 

That is, to strengthen my roots with my land, my people, my Torah and myself.
 
This is the true meaning of Yom Ha’atzmaut following Yom Hashoah and Yom Hazikaron. He redefines Israel as a family that weeps together, and by remembering the price we paid to be free Jews, it redefines the meaning of Israel.
 
A people decimated by the Nazi Final Solution experienced a sovereign regeneration only three years after the Holocaust. A nation facing a war of extinction from the very first day of its creation - and relentlessly thereafter with more wars, waves of terrorism, economic boycotts, incitement to mortal frenzy, its legitimacy - and never gave up or surrendered. 

Despite the ever-present threats, the Israelis have embraced life to the fullest, have not succumbed to a siege mentality, nor lost the aspiration for lasting peace and normality.

When we turn to Yom Ha'atzmaout, we do it with a deep sense of responsibility. Our country was not given to us on a silver platter.
 
Israel must be the one who remembers, and through this memory he constantly commands himself to be worthy of the price we have paid. It is a memory that obliges us to embrace life and challenges us to live it to the fullest, to build lives individually and collectively. This is Israel's task. It is the legacy of our past and the challenge of our future.

Through courage, inspiration, sacrifice and innovation, and the challenge of every chance, the Israelis built a remarkable country in their ancestral home.
 
Again, the work is incomplete and the challenges are many.

But in 69 years, the Israelis proved strongly that Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion was right when he said: "In Israel, to be realistic, you have to believe in miracles."

Regardless of how you feel about Israel as a nation, or the Arab-Israeli conflict, it is not possible to deny that Europe has much to learn from our successes. 

By resisting the cultural Marxism and Islamization that have seized a large part of humanity, Israel has given itself a strong chance of survival. The very young Europe and its young people would do well to imitate what Israel and its very old people do if they hope to survive.
 
Their fate is in great danger while that of the Jewish people continues its way intact.'

I don't know Monsieur Vercors's views on the current French presidential contest, but I do know that if Emmanuel Macron truly believes in "Open Borders" then he is dooming his country to a bleak future, as indicated in my previous post.

And here's an incisive analysis of what ails Europe's leaders today.  Not that it's fair to blame Europe's seemingly inexorable plunge into the destructive vortex solely on childless politicians.

There are plenty of childless people, including some of the best and most courageous political pundits (a number of whom are openly gay), who fear as much as any parent worried for their children's future the creeping islamisation of the European continent.

It's not necessary to have children to dread an Islamic future for one's country or continent. What is necessary is to recognise the superiority of Western civilisation and of Judeo-Christian values over benightedness and barbarity, and to see society as a social contract between past, present and future.

The enablers of population replacement and islamisation are not only betraying the next generation and those that come after it; they are betraying their ancestors and themselves.

David Singer: United Nations' Fabricated Arab Narrative Deceives Academics

Here's another very important article by Sydney lawyer and international affairs analyst David Singer concerning the duplicity of the United Nations, this time focusing on the twisted truth's dissemination in academic books, and the consequent pressing need for revision.

Writes David Singer:

The United Nations publication “The Origins and Evolution of the Palestine Problem 1917-1988” (“Study”) has deliberately misrepresented the actual wording of General Assembly Resolution 181 passed on 29 November 1947 – deceiving many academics who have disseminated the Study's false message.

The Study has been published by the Division for Palestinian Rights of the United Nations Secretariat for, and under the guidance of, the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.

The offending statement in the Study misleadingly declares: 

"After investigating various alternatives the United Nations proposed the partitioning of Palestine into two independent States, one Palestinian Arab and the other Jewish, with Jerusalem internationalized."

The actual wording of Resolution 181 stated: 

"Independent Arab and Jewish States and the Special International Regime for the City of Jerusalem, set forth in Part III of this Plan, shall come into existence in Palestine...."

The Study omits to mention that 78 per cent of Palestine had already become an independent Arab State in 1946 and been renamed the Hashemite Kingdom of Transjordan.

The Study's claim that Resolution 181 called for an "independent Palestinian Arab State" was not accidental but deliberately done to deceive and mislead.

Resolution 181 had denied the existence of any distinctly identifiable Palestinian people in 1947.

The League of Nations Mandate for Palestine had also only spoken of the "existing non- Jewish communities in Palestine" in 1922.

"Palestinians" were first defined in the 1964 Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Charter to mean Arab citizens normally resident in Palestine in 1947 and their descendants. Jewish and non-Arab Christian residents were excluded under this racist and apartheid definition.

The PLO also claimed that Palestine was the homeland of the Arab Palestinian people – even though Resolution 181 clearly did not.

That the Study deliberately changed the actual wording of Resolution 181 to advance these fictitious PLO claims – or perhaps others unknown - for spurious reasons – is scandalous.

This false rendition of Resolution 181 has been repeated verbatim in many books including:

1. Handbook of Ethnic Conflict: International Perspectives – Dan Landis and Rosita D Albert

2. Youth Citizenship and the Politics of Belonging – Madeleine Arnot and Sharlene Swartz

3. Bridges Over Troubled Waters  – Dahlia Moore and Salem Aweiss Richard Cummings PhD propagated this false statement during a lecture to the Arab Society of Princeton University on 21 February 2002.

This falsehood again appears in Shaping Foreign Policy in Times of Crisis: The Role of International Law and the State Department Legal Adviser written by Michael Scharf and Paul Williams. Their book grew out of a series of meetings with all ten of the living former U.S. State Department legal advisers from the Carter administration to that of George W. Bush.

Both authors are law professors and formerly served in the Office of the Legal Adviser of the US Department of State.

That two such eminent lawyers apparently accepted this official United Nations document as being unerringly accurate speaks volumes for those who have been similarly deceived because they didn't take the time to verify what they were disseminating.

Many other academics have swallowed this duplicitous Study hook, line and sinker to form hostile anti-Israel views  – especially regarding Israel's claims in Judea and Samaria  – geographical place names actually used in Resolution 181 and for 3000 years continuously until the Arabs renamed those areas the "West Bank" in 1950.

The Roman Empire used the same ploy in 135 AD – changing the name of its conquered province from "Syria Judaea" to "Syria Palestina”.

Change the name – change the game

Correcting this fabricated United Nations Arab narrative is urgently required.

A Wolf in Peacemaker's Clothing, eh, ex-Vicar? (plus videos)

Only a few days now to the launch (6 May, at Christ Church, Virginia Water) of Stephen Sizer's so-called Peacemaker Mediators, with himself as head honcho and at least one of the persons featured in this photo as a member of the International Board of Reference (whatever that means in practice!):

In the countdown to the launch  of the new venture, our old friend the ex-vicar of Virginia Water, now ensconced in Southampton, has thrilled his faithful by bursting onto social media with this meme.

Pretty words, granted.

But actions are more eloquent than words, and NGO Monitor has the following about Sami Awad, the quotation-provider in question, who is founder and executive director of the Holy Land Trust (HLT).

The HLT, it warns,

Conducts highly politicized tours of Israel and the West Bank promoting the Palestinian narrative and targeting church leaders and the international community, claiming to provide “cross cultural and experimental learning opportunities in both Palestine and Israel.” Suggests that its participants “limit information” given to Israeli airport security and hide the reason for their visits.

HLT runs an annual summer program “Palestine Summer Encounter.” Participants have met with representatives from politicized NGOs like Breaking the Silence, BADIL, and Grassroots Jerusalem.

 Sami Awad  ... has stated that non-violent demonstrations are “not a substitute for the armed struggle.”

Beginning in 2010, HLT, alongside Bethlehem Bible College, has organized the Christ at the Checkpoint Conference (CATC), a bi-annual event held in Bethlehem.

 CATC seeks to advance the Palestinian nationalist agenda within Evangelical Christian churches.

When it comes to demonisation of Israel Sami Awad has form.  His organisation

 Accuses Israel of “ethnic cleansing” and signed an “Urgent call to action” during the 2014 Gaza conflict accusing Egypt of “complicity in Israel’s genocide of the people of Gaza.”

 In 2014, Sami Awad joined the “Ads Against Apartheid” campaign, which created billboards displaying to “Americans the devastating human rights abuses by the Israeli military and government against the Palestinian people. When these ads go national in the United States, Americans will start to understand the depth of the suffering Palestinians have endured under the Israeli military occupation.”

In 2013, HLT sponsored a festival in London called “Bethlehem Unwrapped,” featuring “a comedy show called “Stand Up Against the Wall,” a “Bethlehem Christmas dinner,” and a debate titled “Both sides of the Barrier – Separation or Security?” that featured Jeff Halper, founder of the Israeli Committee Against House DemolitionsThe main purpose of the barrier — to protect Israelis from suicide bombings — was erased. The festival was co-sponsored by charities that have exploited the language of morality and human rights to attack Israel for many years, including Amos Trust, Interpal, Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions (ICAHD)-UK, Jews for Justice for Palestinians, and War on Want.

 In 2013, Sami Awad published demonizing rhetoric in Amos Trust’s Bethlehem Packet stating “No matter where you stand in Bethlehem, you can see the effects of the cold grip of this brutal and humiliating occupation.”

Awad has also minimized Israel’s legitimate security needs as a “manipulation” of the fear of another Holocaust. In a speech given at the “Christ at the Checkpoint” Conference in 2010, Awad stated that “the [Israeli] soldier now, who’s gone through that trauma experience [of visiting Auschwitz] now is trained in this weaponry all of a sudden is also put at a checkpoint inside the West Bank, between Palestinian areas.”

 In 2011, HLT produced a film called “Little Town of Bethlehem,” a 77-minute documentary that tells the story “of three men of three different faiths and their lives in Israel and Palestine. The story explores each man’s choice of nonviolent action amidst a culture of overwhelming violence.” Using a façade of multiple viewpoints, however, the film actually presents a single narrative of Palestinian victimization and Israeli violence.

 Speaking at the National Leadership Conference for the Vineyard Church in 2009, Awad told the audience: “We’ve actually done training in non-violence for Hamas leaders and other militant groups as well” (at 01:20:27 in the audio). Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization by the US State Department and the EU. Further, the US Supreme Court upheld a law criminalizing material support for terror organizations. (Holder, Attorney General, et al. v. Humanitarian Law Project et al. 2010.) The law defines “material support” as including “any property, tangible or intangible, or service, including… training, expert advice or assistance…” (See above for details of US government funding of HLT.)

A BDSer?  You betcha!  The HLT

Supports anti-Israel BDS (boycotts, divestment, and sanctions), including signing a petition in May 2005 calling for the academic boycott of Israel.Signatory to the 2005 “Palestinian Civil Society Call for BDS,” which calls for an end to Israel’s “occupation and colonization of all Arab lands” and promotes a right of “Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties. HLT also supports the Kairos Palestine document.

The Kairos Palestine document calls for BDS against Israel, denies the Jewish historical connection to Israel in theological terms, and blames Israel solely for the continuation of the conflict. It also characterizes terrorist acts of “armed resistance” as “Palestinian legal resistance.”

Its purpose is to rally churches globally to support BDS, delegitimization, and demonization directed at the State of Israel.

Partners with Amos Trust, Nonviolence International, Interfaith Peace-Builders, and Peacemaker Gemeinschaft.

 HLT is a member of Alliance for Middle East Peace (ALLMEP), which in contrast to ALLMEP’s stated goals of working toward “peace” and “coexistence,” its members include a number of highly biased and politicized NGOs that promote agendas based solely on the Palestinian narrative of victimization and completely omit Israeli perspectives. Members include: Parents Circle Families Forum (PCFF), Combatants for Peace, OneVoice International, Sikkuy, Women Wage Peace, and others.

A "Theobald Jew" Goes Spinning in Malaysia

Sickening and shameful! 

How much lower can a Jewish proponent of BDS descend?

Sydney academic and "Theobald Jew" Dr Peter Slezak (can you wonder that a hapless namesake in the same city constantly dissociates himself from him?) has been to that well-known oasis of tolerance and diversity, of people's and of women's rights (not), Malaysia, to tell them a thing or two about his fellow-Jews.

Like Antony Loewenstein (originator of this charming fake poster some years ago) Slezak is a co-founder of "Independent Australian Jewish Voices (IACV)", which on its emergence in 2007 was described by Dr Colin Rubinstein, executive director of AIJAC,  as "dangerous and unrepresentative" with some of its members  "clearly committed to the delegitimization of Israel".

But don't take only Dr Rubenstein's word for it.  Associate Professor Mark Baker,  a left-leaning Jewish academic who's among the principal Aussie supporters of J-Street has condemned the IACV's "shallow and inflammatory rhetoric, its one-sided vilification of Israel, and its gratuitous reference to Holocaust memory," noting that it's "all about casting Israel as a pariah. Not a word about the peace process, presumably because the only peace its framers envisage does not include a future for Israel as the 'democratic, national home of the Jewish people' (JStreet phraseology)".

According to a Malaysian newspaper:

'The Jews are partially to blame for the anti-Semitism directed at them by the international community as Jewish communities are not doing enough to hold Israel responsible for Gaza atrocities, said Jewish academic Dr Peter Slezak.

"We have to be more subtle about blaming Jews as a whole for the Israeli government’s actions. But the difficulty is that Jewish communities around the world are uncritical supporters of Israel," said Slezak.

"And to that extent, they do share some of the blame,” the Australia-based scholar added after delivering a talk titled ‘Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict - Proposal from a Secular Jewish Academic’ at Universiti Malaya on Monday.

The professor of philosophy at the University of New South Wales is among a handful of Jewish scholars strongly advocating for an end to the occupation of Palestine by Israel.

He agreed that not all Jews are supportive of Israel, but urged more of them to actively speak out against the atrocities in Gaza. “Unfortunately, Israel is acting in the name of all Jews. Therefore, they have the responsibility to say that it’s not in my name. And that I, as a Jew, do not accept that Israel is committing its crime and stealing Palestinian land for us," he said.

Slezak added that Jewish communities need to stand up and speak up, and said that they don't do it enough....

“The cause of this conflict is not Islam and it’s not the Palestinians, these are political problems we have to understand. Our job is to help clarify the real source of the problem and not to be manipulated by the propaganda,” he added.

Dr Slezak is on a week-long visit to Malaysia at the behest of several pro-Palestinian groups such as Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) Malaysia, Viva Palestina Malaysia, My Humanitarian Care, and the Universiti Malaya Palestine Research Group.'

Moreover:

 'Slezak reminded of the golden rule in Judaism, “Don’t do to somebody else what you would find hateful to you.”“It’s the universal principle that we should all follow.”'

Indeed. Tell that to the suicide bombers and knife intifadists, Dr Slezak.  As well as to the Malaysian authororites who permit the judicial whipping of women.

The Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney, Sydney University Staff for BDS, and a range of pro-Palestinian organisations including the Australia Palestine Advocacy network (APAN) are calling on supporters of Palestine justice, both activists and researchers, to participate in a two-day conference, ‘BDS – Driving Global Justice for Palestine’, which will be held at the University of Sydney on 28-29 July, 2017.

The recent UN Security Council resolution declaring Israeli settlements in ‘flagrant violation’ of international law and calling for a halt to all settlement activity, followed by Israel’s retrospective legalisation of thousands of settlements on stolen Palestinian land, acutely raises the question of what steps can be taken to promote justice, along with genuine peace, in the region.

In line with the call from Palestinian civil society for boycott, divestment and sanctions, this conference, held to mark the centenary of the Balfour declaration and the 50th anniversary of Israel’s 1967 occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, will analyse the current politics of BDS in Australia and abroad, reflect on previous BDS activity, and contribute to greater public understanding of the BDS campaign.
