Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

Gleanings From Gatoff (video)

A friend, having just seen an episode of Newt's News on the Aussie Jewish program "The Shtick," is full of praise, reminding me that it's time to show some of Mr Gatoff's gleanings again.

Left-wing obsession with Israel... Israeli inventions...  BDS... Jerusalem... "Occupation"...

Some excellent segments here.

Bluff & Bluster Re Jerusalem

Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan has of course been making fire and brimstone noises regarding Jerusalem lately (video with English subtitles here).

And (hat tip: Vlad Tepes blog) there has been much flexing of muscles in Turkey regarding Islam and the Ottomans.

Writes Ankara-based Burak Bekdil, a columnist for the Turkish daily Hürriyet
'.... Jerusalem has always had a spectacular place in a Turkish Islamist's heart and mind. But pre-election fervor in Turkey has lifted their "Jerusalem fetish" to new heights....
[For the Turkish president and his prime minister] Jerusalem did not exist before 1187. If it did not, why do the Turks talk about its "conquest," a euphemism they always seem to prefer to avoid the word "occupation" or "invasion."
..... [A]ccording to the president, [Jerusalem]"is the holiest place of Muslims and it belongs to the Palestinians."....
[I]n a speech on May 15, Erdogan said that: "Unfortunately we the Muslims lost our aim to head towards Jerusalem. The water of our eyes froze, making us blind, and our hearts that were destined to beat for Jerusalem are now instead conditioned for rivalry, in a state of war with each other."
In other words, Erdogan is calling the ummah [the Muslim community] to end its conflicts in order to unite behind a jihad march toward Jerusalem. This is not surprising for Turkey's political Islam, whose Arab ideological next-of-kin is the Muslim Brotherhood.
Mohammed Badie, Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, declared in a public message published by Egyptian daily, Al-Ahram, that "the Zionists only understand force," and that Arabs cannot hope to achieve justice from the Jews "through the corridors of the United Nations or through negotiations." ...
Is Erdogan that one man around whom the Islamic nation should unite for the sake of Jerusalem and Palestine? Erdogan may be thinking that he is the 21st-century reincarnation of Saladin. So may be his Muslim Brothers and Qatari allies. For the rest of the Muslims, all that is merely "fairy tales from Uncle Tayyip."'

Magical Danny, Magical Jerusalem (video)

What a spellbinding communicator Israel's deputy foreign minister Danny Ayalon is!  Here he is presenting an enchanting new video, "The Magic of Jerusalem."  It's had thousands of hits already, since its release on 30 January, and deserves tens of thousands more.

Ah, if only a wave of a wand and an "Abracadabra" could clone Danny Ayalon.  Israel's cause needs and deserves more communicators of his calibre and easy, pleasant persona.

Arguing For Jerusalem Undivided

"Isn't it ironic that many in Europe who recently celebrated 25 years of the reunification of Berlin are at the same time calling for the division of another capital on another continent?....

Now more than ever, Israel and Jerusalem need real friends and real leaders. The threat we face now isn't from foreign invaders, but rather from international diplomats seeking to locate a simple but incorrect solution to the complex relationship between Israel and the Palestinians. As far as Jerusalem is concerned, we must recall that no divided city in history has ever succeeded."

Thus (having noted the Jewish People's three-millenia-long ties to the golden city)  writes Nir Barkat, the mayor of Jerusalem, in the Wall Street Journal this week.
'In 1967, Israel reunified its capital, Jerusalem, which had been divided between Israeli and Jordanian control since the Jewish state's founding in 1948. Since then the city has maintained freedom of access, movement and religion. Peace-seeking pilgrims of all faiths can again visit the holy places without limitation or restriction. Tourism to Jerusalem is thriving, as is the city's economy, and its per capita crime rate is among the world's lowest....
By 2030, the city's population will expand to one million residents from 800,000 today (33% Muslim, 2% Christian and 65% Jewish). Where does the world suggest we put these extra 200,000 residents? The expansion of Jerusalem's residential areas is essential for the natural growth of all segments of our population. It enables Jewish and Arab families alike to grow and remain in the city. The capital of a sovereign nation cannot be expected to freeze growth rather than provide housing to families of all faiths eager to make their lives there.
As for "E-1," this land has always been considered the natural site for the expansion of contiguous neighborhoods of metropolitan Jerusalem. "E-1" strengthens Jerusalem. It does not impede peace in our region. The international alarm about planned construction is based solely on the misplaced dreams of the Palestinians and their supporters for a divided Jerusalem.
Jerusalem has been and forever will be the heart and soul of the Jewish people. It is also the united and undivided capital of the state of Israel. The Jewish people and the Jewish state have a bumpy road ahead. We appreciate the support of our friends, and only through continued bold leadership at home—leadership willing to stand up to pressure from foreign capitals—will we get through this challenging time.'

"There's No Zionism Without Zion" (video)

Hat tip to reader Shirlee for alerting me to this short brand-new video, uploaded by ImTirzu:

Meanwhile, let's hope that this offensive ad with its misleading maps that pollutes a train station just north of New York City doesn't catch on elsewhere:

Update:
See here for a new critique of those four familiar Israel-demonising maps.

Why Jerusalem Must Remain Under Israeli Sovereignty (video)

This video argues that, for several reasons, the division of Jerusalem, as under Jordanian rule from 1948-67, is today unfeasible, and that the entire city should remain under Israeli sovereignty:

Why Do The Palestinians Want To Divide Jerusalem? (video)

Another one I missed when it debuted (a year ago), consisting of a dialogue between a familiar-looking gentleman and a Palestinian representative:
