Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

The Christchurch Atrocity: APAN Supporters Accuse Da Joos

APAN is the Australian Palestine Advocacy Network.

Its president, as regular readers of this blog may recall, is George Browning, former Anglican Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn.

Presumably Browning will take steps to clear the Augean Stable that APAN appears to have become by casting out from the organisation the APAN supportes who have written and supported the antisemitic nonsense that has been spewed out on the APAN Facebook page, as follows:

Blaming da Joos for the crazy, evil actions of the Christchurch gunman has also been expressed elsewhere.  See, for instance (hat tip: Australian Jewish Association), the blood libels here and here

Meanwhile, beneath one of the many posts relating to the atrocity posted by Stephen Sizer, a dodgy looking comment from one of his followers.  (Please explain.)

“The difference between Israel and Hamas
    [an Islamic terrorist organization] is
that Israel uses its soldiers to protect
its civilians, whereas Hamas uses its
    civilians to protect its terrorists.

That is why most of Israeli casualties
have been soldiers and most of Hamas'
    casualties have been civilians.

The other reason is that Israel builds
shelters for its civilians, whereas Hamas
builds shelters only for its terrorists,
intending that most of the casualties
    be among its civilian shields.”

Harvard Law Professor Alan M. Dershowitz said:

The Jews had earned their right to a homeland.

They had settled and worked mostly barren areas
of the British mandate of Palestine, which they
had bought – with the help of contributions
from our blue-and-white Jewish National Fund
boxes – largely from absentee landlords.

They built hospitals, schools, and kibbutzim,
and established the infrastructure of a state.

They quite literally turned swampland into
orchards and made the desert bloom.

More important, because of the actions of
the entire world towards Jews – their
    second-class status and their barriers
to their immigration – it had become
clear that the Jews needed a state.

They were prepared to compromise their
biblical and historic claims to accept
a fraction of Palestine as theirs.

But after the United Nations’ 1947 decision
to dissolve the British mandate and partition
Palestine into two states, one for Jews and
one for Arabs, the Arabs refused to agree
to Jewish sovereignty over an inch of Palestine,
even over land on which no Arab lived.

Only three years after the close of the
Holocaust, Arab leaders, many of whom
    supported Hitler’s genocide, were calling
for a war of extermination against the Jews –
a “momentous massacre which will be spoken of
like the Mongolian massacres and the Crusades.”

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, who had spent
the war years in Berlin with Hitler, expressed
    “greatest joy and deepest gratification”
for the Nazi accomplishments and declared
a “holy war” whose goal was to
“Murder the Jews! Murder them all!”

  2. Looking at NZ's recent political history of rabidly, reflexively condemning Israel for everything from deaths is Gaza to the weather it makes sense. Oh they pretty it up by saying they're liberal and tolerant and Hobbit-friendly and they have more sheep and sailboats than people and it's paradise, but it's the kind of paradise built on a political monoculture of intolerance, narrow mindedness and antisemitism. If the UN needs a second home they should put it in Christchurch or Wellington, assuming the cities are willing to change their names to something less white-suprema-racist first. But hey. South Africa did that, anyone can.
