Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

A Benn, Not A Bennite: "Fascists hold our values in contempt ... they have to be defeated" (video)

"We must now confront this evil; it is time for us to do our bit in Syria." The thorn in Jeremy Corbyn's flesh, the late Anthony Wedgwood Benn's son Hilary, Britain's shadow foreign minister  makes a splendid speech that would no doubt have his father spinning in his grave, and which has the Corbynistas gnashing their teeth and wailing:

More here   Hat tip: Brian G.

Hilary Benn is the man who seems set eventually to depose the horrendous Corbyn, and thus, incidentally, make the extreme lefties who joined Labour merely to vote Corbyn in as leader quit the party in droves.

Social media is awash with their anguish!

Some dirty deeds reported here

By a committed anti-Israel activist (recruited only recently to Labour Party membership) in reaction to Benn's speech:

By the (anti-Israel) Stop the War Coalition:

A sarcastic piece by the (famously anti-Israel) children's author and poet Michael Rosen, of Goldsmith's College, London University:

More on Hilary Benn's views on defence here

And although he's clearly not a Netanyahu supporter, Hilary Benn seems much friendlier to Israel than the leftist ratbags in his party; consider his speech in November to Labour Friends of Israel, another source of fury for the Corbynistas.

  1. Bob Carr does his Corbyn impersonation.
Bob Carr and the cleansing of Jews from the history of Jerusalem, “this great Arab city”

Of course the real story about the Spanish Civil war "veterans" was when the Soviets signed a pact with the Nazis they all opposed fighting Hitler. See also Pete Seeger.

  2. Thank you, Daphne, for the hat tip reference. I noted in the comment to the article below this one that Benn had reminded his party of its proud anti-fascist and anti-appeasement past. While there were plenty of Conservative politicians (and many aristocrats) prepared to treat with Hitler and weren't bothered about how short the spoon was with this devil, Labour politicians and trade unions were fighting Mosley in the streets and the Nazis in any way they could (including fighting in Spain against Franco).

Benn called ISIS/Daesh what it is: fascist. If you go to the last 3 or 4 minutes of his speech, he says all this and more.

It was the speech of a statesman. I just hope he gets the reward hw deserves!

  3. Daphne,

Sorry to disagree but Hilary Benn has demonstrate that he is nothing but a total hypocrite. His Gaza statement last summer was easily as bad as anything from Corbyn and directly contradicts the arguments he used for combating terrorism in his ISIS speech. Here is his statement

    1. You know I have a high regard for your opinions, Edgar. I suppose it's a case of "can a leopard change its spots" ...
