Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

A Prince Falls in Israel

Very sad news indeed.  Professor Barry Rubin, who had been suffering from a long illness courageously borne, fell into a coma on Friday, and passed away this morning, surrounded by his family.

Professor Rubin was a much-respected and prolific scholar and, of course, a doughty champion of Israel's cause.  He  was an expert on terrorism and Middle East issues, and his outstanding analytical online articles will be much missed.

He leaves behind a number of wonderful, highly informative and greatly recommended publications, some of them available for free (see here)

As I mentioned some months ago, among his output is this book, just released.  I have ordered it, and keenly look forward to reading it.  It promises to be a must-read.

His untimely passing is a tragic loss for Klal Yisrael.

May his memory be a blessing.

Baruch Dayan Emet.

  2. I awoke this morning completely oblivious to your posting of this terrible news at my site last night. Then, of course, I fired up my computer in order to start reviewing the news and there it was:

"Scholar and Mideast expert Barry Rubin dies at 64"

I cry as I write this.
