Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

"The Zionist Project ... Is Going To Founder": rabble-rousing in Dundee (video)

Here's Mick Napier, of the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, ranting and raving in ear-splitting tones during a recent "Justice for Palestine" festival in Dundee:

  1. You have to love his reference to the (hesitation) British suppressing ethnic groups. Many of those same British were, of course, Scots. Still the classic is his claim that the BBC is pro-Israel.

What about that mass protest he promised? I can find no record of it, anywhere.

    1. Scots abounded in the East India Company - the Raj teemed with enterprising Scots.

The absurd claim that the BBC is pro-Israel plays right into the BBC's hands, allowing it to make its tired old mantra that it gets the coverage "just about right". Just why won't it release the Balen Report if it has nothing to feel guilty about?!

    2. That’s the same BBC that refers to Roger Garaudy as a “French philosopher”.

  4. If the Irish are so concerned, why don’t they house Palestinians or even genuine refugees in their 300,000 empty houses?

  5. That mantra you mentioned Daphne is based on a grubby little line that if they get complaints in equal numbers and weight from "both sides" then as a "rule of thumb" they have got it about right. I understand SBS and ABC types like to throw that glib bon mot around and no doubt they picked it up from the other ugly sister.

There are a lot of things wrong with that way of thinking and its hard to think which is the most offensive.

Everyone must know that anything on this thing attracts a pile of attention and especially anyone in the media. A fair portion of it would have to be a bit ... well you know ... off.

A lot of what they get would be ignorance or outright disgusting as we can see for ourselves. Just mention the words "Israel" or "Jews" and you will attract the outright antisemitic churn factories just for a start and there are lots of them. Nazis and white power racists. Islamist extremists. Religious and political cultists. Anti-Zionist Jews. The list goes on.

In total people like this may still be a small minority of the population in most places where Jewish people live but even the hardcore must outnumber Jews by two or three to one woman, man and child. That's not paranoia. It's arithmetic.

There is a multi faceted propaganda war going on and it strikes me as sinister that those in a position to know that to overlook it.

  6. PS

I did not look at the video. I'm sick of these guys.

  7. Obscene talk of 'Israeli death squads' and 'kill at will' - but that town square looks quite empty and the applause sounds quite thin!

  9. I'm totally on your side on this, Daphne. But honestly, I do wonder if these guys are really worth the bother. This bloke looks like a lone nut of the kind you see every Sunday in Hyde Park. You could pick his argument to pieces in a few sentences. But why bother? No-one's listening to him anyway.

However, I know there is the broader picture, and this guy is part of a global legitimization campaign against Israel, and he uses its tropes and its language. That campaign has to be contested and turned back.

Even so, in this particular case, I can't help thinking 'You poor old, silly old, sod; if only you knew you were daft as a drain'.

  10. I realise that there's a fine balance between taking note of these people and giving them oxygen, Rob. Cyberspace teems with 9/11 truthers and that sort of nut (I used to get daily visits and heavy-duty antisemitic and obscene comments from one truther, who has a blog of his own, but because I ignore him he's mainly given up). They are best avoided.
Napier, however, is a "star" of the BDS movement in the UK, a flotilla activist, etc. I find his comments instructive as representing that appalling movement as a whole, though I must say, I was unprepared for the references to the "Jewish lobby" in the video to which I refer in the a comment above.
I also like to remind people of the types who infest that movement, and that's why I post videos of this type. I certainly don't post everything!

  11. BTW the 'mass protest' against the Israel-Scotland Woman's Football match received zero coverage anywhere. Perhaps less massive than predicted?

  12. SG, thanks for your comment - but I dare not post it because the final sentence might be interpreted as defamatory. Please don't take offence - I appreciate you taking the trouble to comment, and I've rejected comments from others from time to time for the same reason.

  13. Great video here, by a young man protesting BDS in Adelaide - notice the BDSer is lost for words

  14. I'm not without sympathy for the young Arab lady, the descendent of refugees, who addresses the Dundee BDSers in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYV3oXwNOcU taken during the same event. However, in her speech, so eagerly received by the woman who introduces her, there are the usual distortions and sins of omission which serve to put the "Nakba" on a level the the Shoah, not to mention wild inaccuracies such as "Every day in Palestine someone gets murdered....And today, actually Ben Gurion who's a horrible terrorist man ..." But of course the Israel-haters eat it up.

  15. I'm sure the ancient Romans said more or less the same thing and they're dust.
