"The government has no plans to monitor preaching in mosques or any other faith institution.... The government is committed to tackling Islamophobia ..."That's what Conservative life peer Lord Bourne of Aberystwyth, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, recently told the House of Lords on behalf of the Theresa May government.
And reiterated his pledge following the concern expressed by UKIP life peer Lord Pearson of Rannoch, who had dared to express, in the Lords' chamber, a well-justified antipathy towards Islamic extremism and Islamic rape culture.
The expression on the faces of some of the more politically correct peers when Lord Pearson says what he is compelled to say are more than eloquent reflections of a Chamberlainesque approach, as are the female voices shrieking "Shame!"at Pearson's unflattering description of what is, after all, a misogynistic creed.
