Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

The Not So Divine Miss M

British actress (I suppose it's poltically correct to say "actor") Miriam Margolyes, who has been an Australian citizen for some years (the photo shows her receiving her naturalisation certificate from no less a personage than them prime minister Julia Gillard), is an inveterate Israel hater, who can usually be relied upon to sign leftist "as a Jew" statements vilifying Israel.  This, for instance.

She is consequently a darling of the anti-Israel media including the supposed-to-be impartial taxpayer funded ABC, which as Herald-Sun columnist Rita Panahi showed brilliantly in an article this very day (behind a paywall, I'm afraid) is now more blatantly than ever  the home of leftist activism posing as journalism, a place that's nor merely a conservative-free zone but, increasingly, a centrist-free one as well.

In March 2015 Margolyes, a panellist on the ABC's Q&A program (the ABC's version of the BBC's Question Time) scapegoated Israel for antisemitism.

As former federal MP Michael Danby, observed in 2015,:
"I think it is appalling that the ABC had on its Q&A program the execrable woman Margolyes, who, of all the actors in Australia, had to be brought on to Q&A to comment on international affairs.
She who said, quite disgracefully on this program on Monday, that antisemitism is quite understandable.
It is not understandable in any circumstances. The death of those people [in Paris and Copenhagen] is not justifiable, Ms Margolyes.
You are a disgrace, and the ABC is a disgrace for putting you on..."
The latest way in which unapologetic Corbynista Margolyes has broken ranks with mainstream majority Jewish opinion is her endorsement of this despocable slur on Chief Rabbi Mirvis, who of course has, not before time, issued a statement deploring the effect of Labour Party antisemitism upon British Jews:

Pretty shameful, eh?

So Who's The Dhimmi Bishop, Then?

At a secular meeting at Regent's Park Mosque in London, a woman stands hijabbed.

Who can she be?

It's unlikely that she's a Muslim.  That large cross round her neck is a bit of a giveaway.

Ah, yes! She's none other than Sarah Mullally, Bishop of London, no less!

Of course, not all Anglicans are happy that a woman holds the post, and I'd wager that many of those who do are unhappy that "Bishop Sarah", to use her Twitter handle, has seen it necessary to debase her female self and dhimmify the Church of England by doing a Jacinda Ardern.

No wonder the Church of England is held in contempt by many Anglicans, and other observers, these days, when elements within it seem to bend with every passing edict of the "politically correct".

The lady prelate was at a function pressing for increased expenditure for security for London mosques in the wake of the Christchurch shooting.

The Archbishop of Canterbury was there to lend support for the Muslim demands (he didn't find it necessary to grow a beard for the occasion, though), as was Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis (see and hear them on the video below).

Oh, and there was at least one other ordained Christian woman with a hijab-like garment covering her head.

Is this repugnant surrender of female church leaders (women's rights activists within their own denominations, and largely on the left politically) to a misogynist creed really what "interfaith" understanding has come to?

It would be laughable, were it not so sad.

"In a Very Dangerous Neighbourhood ... Israel Stands Out as an Oasis"

 Brevity of Life
"The days of our years are threescore and ten" - Psalms xc, 10

"Three score and ten," the youth replies,
"How far off seems the day."
"Three score and ten," the old man cries,
"How quickly passed away"....

Those are the opening lines of a poem penned in Victorian times by a British Jew, Philip Abraham (Jewish Chronicle, 2 December 1864).

He was, of course, thinking in terms of end of life, but as we all know, and he could not, 70 epitomises a beginning of life, the period in which the State of Israel has been in existence, and miraculously flourished in so many  ways.

On that note, here's Mark Regev, giving a terrific address at Bnei Akiva's Yom Ha'atzmaut 5778 service at London's Kinloss Synagogue.

In Jewish tradition "seventy is a symbol of perfection, of completion" explains Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis at the same event, after paying tribute to Regev, Bnei Akiva, and before giving a stirring encomium to Medinat Israel.

More videos can be seen on Bnei Akiva's YouTube channel, including a Yom Ha'atzmaut tribute to Israel by Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson MP.  (Read snippets here)

Seems there's always a party pooper, though:

“If Ever There Was A Group Of Lions Being Led By Donkeys This Is It. Our Leadership Has Been Invisible"

From Friday's Times
As reported in Friday's Jewish Chronicle, members of the British Jewish community are up in arms at what is widely seen as the supine response of communal leaders, especially the Board of Deputies, to the fall-out from the current Gaza situation.

One dissatisfied Jew, lawyer Mark Lewis
'suggested communal leaders “couldn’t organise a p***-up in a brewery”.
He said: “If ever there was a group of lions being led by donkeys this is it. Our leadership has been invisible. The Sussex Friends of Israel have done more than the Board of Deputies.
“Hitherto unknowns in communal work have risen to natural leadership roles, stood up and mobilised.
“Who mobilised the communities in Leeds and Manchester to go to Bradford [and challenge George Galloway]? No one. We have to stand up as a community. If our leaders won’t lead us, then we need new leaders.” ....'

The Chief Rabbi, Dr Ephraim Mirvis, told the meeting:
“I felt I must be here to express solidarity with Israel at this time. We have been enduring a very challenging time. We want to engage in positive action.”
