Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

From Your Tents, O Ratbags!

Apart from the nasty taste that the antisemitism of the "Occupy Wall Street" movement and its global offshoots has left, I shall take away two memories of the "Occupy" madness.

The first is the hyperbolic comment of "liberal feminist" Naomi Wolf (of The Beauty Myth fame), who wrote after her arrest on Hudson Street, near to Wall Street protesters, where she was attending a function for the Huffington Post:
'first they come for the "other" – the "terrorist", the brown person, the Muslim, the outsider; then they come for you – while you are standing on a sidewalk in evening dress, obeying the law.'
The second is the robust, if at times over-rude, condemnation of Wall Street occupiers by "Batman" author Frank Miller, who on his blog remarked, to the chagrin of the usual suspects:
'Everybody’s been too damn polite about this nonsense:
The “Occupy” movement, whether displaying itself on Wall Street or in the streets of Oakland (which has, with unspeakable cowardice, embraced it) is anything but an exercise of our blessed First Amendment. These clowns can do nothing but harm America.
“Occupy” is nothing short of a clumsy, poorly-expressed attempt at anarchy, to the extent that the “movement” ...  is anything more than an ugly fashion statement by a bunch of iPhone, iPad wielding spoiled brats who should stop getting in the way of working people and find jobs for themselves....
Wake up, pond scum. America is at war against a ruthless enemy.
Maybe, between bouts of self-pity and all the other tasty tidbits of narcissism you’ve been served up in your sheltered, comfy little worlds, you’ve heard terms like al-Qaeda and Islamicism.
And this enemy of mine — not of yours, apparently - must be getting a dark chuckle, if not an outright horselaugh - out of your vain, childish, self-destructive spectacle.
In the name of decency, go home to your parents, you losers. Go back to your mommas’ basements and play with your Lords Of Warcraft.
Or better yet, enlist for the real thing. Maybe our military could whip some of you into shape.
They might not let you babies keep your iPhones, though. Try to soldier on.
Schmucks.'
Meanwhile (hat tip: reader Shirlee) a new word has entered the language:

Damp Squibs & Demons

I'm reliably informed that there were few Israel-bashers in evidence in the Sydney suburb of Newtown this Saturday, despite one of the regular anti-Max Brenner demos being scheduled, as touted on Facebook and elsewhere.  The reason for this damp squibbery, as my informant (take a bow, Shirl!) suggests, is surely not hard to seek: the "rent-a-crowd" ratbags were preoccupied with the "Occupy" nonsense taking place in the city.

That the "Break Down the Wall" and the "Break Down Wall Street" mobs have much crossover has been amply demonstrated over the past few weeks.  One of the most brazen spinoffs of antisemitism on the part of anti-capitalists has ocurred on Facebook, with a page charmingly entitled: "Jews Are Greedy C*nts"
(racism and sexism in one, huh?!)  Read all about it here

"Nazis & Communists Always HaveTo Have Scapegoats" (videos)

This schoolteacher made shocking remarks about "Zionist Jews" at the "Occupy Los Angeles" rally.  As a result she was fired from her job. In this video she reiterates her repugnant views - and what's rather telling (and certainly shameful) is that one of the protest organisers refuses to be drawn into condemning the schoolteacher's antisemitic rant.

"The Palestinians should march to Jerusalem - they should take Jerusalem, it's theirs!" ... "It's correct to blame things on Israel" ... "Death to Israel" ... "Death to NATO" declares this mercifully soft-spoken pro-Gaddafi self-styled "Marxist-Leninist" dunderhead in Occupied Ottawa.

(Hat tip for video: Blazing Cat Fur blog)

This crazy mixed-up mindset (Arab nationalism praiseworthy, Jewish nationalism prohibited) is all par for the course on the Jew-baiting far left, of course.

This substantial video examines the antisemitism manifested by the "Occupy Wall Street" movement and its offshoots and is well worth watching:

A good commentary on the phenomenon is by Rabbi Abraham Cooper and Dr Harold Brackman for the Simon Wiesenthal Center. Read it here

"Hate Is Not An American Value" (video)

"Rich-man antisemitism," it has been termed by one historian.  You know, the perception that Jews are plutocrats and consequently wield a disproportionate amount of power in the world.

A code-word for Jews in antisemitic circles that perhaps don't want to be seen to wear their judeophobia on their sleeve is of course "international financier".  It very often goes hand in hand with nutjob conspiracy theories, of course.

And this sort of antisemitism - viewing a shadowy cabal of mega-rich Jews as exerting undue influence over the fates of nations - has reared its extremely ugly head at the "Occupy Wall Street" demonstrations in the United States, along with a disturbing amount of anti-Israel rhetoric.

Not everyone, however, be they ever so liberal, seems to want to admit that this is so - thus leading Democrats have turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the deplorable Jew-hatred.

That's why the following video has been made by the Emergency Committee for Israel (ECI).  Says  ECI's chairman, William Kristol:
"It’s not surprising that elements of the modern left are antisemitic.  It is surprising that respectable liberals have praised the protesters while ignoring the antisemitism. Liberals have pretended to see nothing hateful and hear nothing hateful, and therefore have said nothing to rebuke their allies. Will they now speak up?”
