Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

Muslim Intellectual on Trump's Impact on Saudi Arabia (videos)

Here's pro-Israel British-born US-based Muslim physician and intellectual Dr Qanta Ahmed discussing the impact President Trump has made on the Saudi-aligned Muslim world with his speech in Riyadh:

Her take on the term "Islamist":

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlAllRa8puE

Meanwhile, the extremist Caliphate-seeking organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in much of the Middle East but tolerated in Britain and Australia, has held a conference in Sydney.
'During a ... question and answer session, fellow leader Uthman Badar invoked the Holocaust, which saw six million Jews killed during the 1940s, and declared Muslims could not separate religion and politic
"The idea that it's so inconceivable is always the case. If you asked someone in the 1920s whether something like the Holocaust was possible you’d be laughed at,'"Mr Badar said.
"Things can, they may not, but they can go south very, very quickly. It’s something to keep in the back of your mind."
He added that Muslims could not separate religion from politics.
"For us, the political, the activism is necessarily and inextricably grounded in the spiritual. If you separate the two, that's not Islam," Mr Badar said.'
Badar declared at a Hizb forum earlier this year:
"The ruling for apostates as such in Islam is clear, that apostates attract capital punishment and we don't shy away from that" ...

Fatal Frightful Friday: Chunder Down Under

If anything more than another brings home to us the utter moral bankruptcy of the Left when faced with the terror threat from "radicalised [next, salient adjective conspicuous by its absence] youth" it must be this observation, at left, by the Aussie conservative columnist Tim Blair.

And as always fellow conservative columnist Andrew Bolt has wet left-liberal mealy-mouthedness and pandering to unjustified narratives of victimhood in his sights.

See the video below (a real corker) from his Sunday TV show, in which he contrasts Malcolm Turnbull's "new sensitive language" with the tougher language employed by Tony Abbott.

According to Channel Seven, the 15-year-old Islamic boy who shot police accountant Mr Curtis Cheng to death attended a meeting of the extremist organisation Hizb-ut Tahrir shortly before the fatal deed.

But the head of that organisation refuses to answer reporters' questions relating to that allegation.

Below, brief footage of a Hizb ut-Tahrir rally in the Sydney suburb of Lakemba yesterday.  I believe that there were banners demonising Israel, but don't see them in this footage.  Keep an eye out for Channel Nine footage, which may show more.

Meanwhile, as we learn here, another Islamic extremist group has been out and about on the weekend:
'An extremist Muslim group held a conference at a Melbourne university over the weekend as the country reels from the shooting of a NSW police worker by a radicalised teenager.
Just a day after Friday’s fatal shooting, a controversial conference organised by fundamentalist Islamic group, the Islamic Research and Educational Academy, was held at Deakin University, The Australian reports.
The IREA’s two-day workshops were based on the teachings of Islamic scholars who have recommended the death penalty for homosexuals and apostates, promoted terrorism and preached hatred of Jews and Christians and violence against women.
Media gathered at Deakin’s Burwood campus on Sunday, but the IREA says on its Facebook page they were not allowed inside the venue as “the event was pre-registered”.
The event, dubbed ‘The Art of Da’wah’, was hosted by the ultraconservative Salafist organisation’s president Waseem Razvi....' [Emphasis added]

"This ... Is In The Same Vein Of Islamic Extremism & Incitement To Violence That Islamic State Peddles" (contains updates ... & nuts)

It seems even one or two of Australia's most ardent leftist Israel-bashers (or at any rate one or two of the Jewish ones) think the principal screecher among the mob of ferals who on Wednesday invaded Colonel Kemp's lecture at Sydney University – a female to boot – erred in condemning the recent  campus ban on speakers from the notorious group Hizb-ut Tahrir.

Watch and hear her at around 0.43 on the video (see my last post but one).

The strange leftist mindset revealed.

First, by one of the student demonstrators:

Secondly, by the Wollongong academic who some time ago walked from Sydney to Canberra to deliver an anti-Israel petition to federal parliament:

(The latter is Jewish, by the way.)

As Sydney Daily Telegraph blogger Tim Blair has observed:
"Note the description of Hizb ut-Tahrir from the main shouter: it is merely an “outspoken Islamic organisation.” Yeah, right."
Now here's a bit of welcome sense from Larry Stillman of the leftwing Israel-bashing Australian Jewish Democratic Society, in a discussion with a bunch of fellow-Jewish lefties on Facebook (the reference to Professor Jake Lynch's wallet, by the way, concerns this alleged but perhaps misinterpreted incident)*:

Not only are Hizb ut-Tahrir "no friends of progressive women" (indeed, of any women unwilling to be demeaned and used as chattels and to be regarded as inherently inferior to men) but they are certainly no friends to Jews, as seen here as well as in this, the latest video from Sydney in which vicious antisemitism and uninhibited incitement to violence against Jews is displayed:

 No wonder, as reported here,
'NSW Jewish Board of Deputies chief Vic Alhadeff compared the rhetoric to the propaganda of the Islamic State.
He also called on the government to respond swiftly amid fears of cultivating another homegrown terrorist. “This has nothing to do with Israel and is in the same vein of Islamic extremism and incitement to violence that IS peddles,” he said. “It is another wake-up call for authorities to act before these hate-preachers inspire the next Man Monis.”'
*Incidentally, for Colonel Kemp's letter to the vice-chancellor of Sydney University, expressing outrage at the intimidatory and offensive tactics used (including, he says, money thrust into the face of a Jewish student by Professor Lynch), and urging an investigation, see here

In Sydney, A Vision Of An Islamic Army

Well might Bibi Netanyahu tweet:

Well did the great communicator make that point in the magnificent speech he made, to rapturous applause, at the Grand Synagogue in Paris.

This past weekend, in the Sydney suburb of Lakemba, a speech of a rather different complexion took place at a "public event" held by the extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir.  Here's part of its flyer advertising the event:

It seems, from his account of the "public event", that reporter Bryan Seymour, who attended on behalf of Channel Seven, was left under no illusion that the organisers welcomed his presence.

"Around 200 men and another 50 women and children, behind a curtain at the back [my emphasis, for this was a secular event], attended,"  he tells us inter alia.

Main speaker Bilal Merhi, known for inflammatory rhetoric, declared that
'Australia's democratic government has to go in favour of an Islamic Caliphate ruled by Sharia Law.
"....[You] have no state, no authority, you have no representation ...! But be brave when we have authority! Come forward when we have a representation with an army! Ready to defend the honour of Allah and his Messenger.... And that's what we have to understand,” ....
His message was met by cries of “Takbir... Allahu Akbar!” ....'

In most of the Middle East, Hizb ut-Tahrir is a proscribed organisation, but not in Australia or the dear old Motherland.  Its major conferences (like the one at right) in Australia attract delegates and speakers from abroad.

As the Sydney Morning Herald explained at the time of one of its conferences
(in 2011):
'The group is proscribed in Germany for anti-Semitism, and Russia declared it a criminal organisation in 1999.
There have been unsuccessful calls to ban the group in Britain and Australia.
Wassim Kabbara, 33, said he had come to the conference as a ''litmus test for me … to see what these guys are doing versus what the West is trying to do''. He agreed with themes at the conference that ''Islam and democracy do not come together''.
The keynote speaker, Dr Mohammad Jeelani, said the West had decided to ''plant a cancer in the Muslim world'', and that cancer was the state of Israel.
The group openly rejects democratic government and tells Muslims in Australia to boycott elections.'
Still, it seems from the rest of Bryan Seymour's report that, albeit in fits and starts like the dozy dormouse at the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, the Aussie authorities might be waking up.

Read and see more of Channel Seven's report (including a video report) here.

"May Allah Curse These Dogs": In Sydney, Islamic Extremists React To This Morning's Dawn Police Raids

Many readers will be aware that last week Queensland counter-terrorism police raided an Islamic bookshop near Brisbane and arrested two men, one the brother of Australia's first suicide bomber, and that today there were a number of arrests in simultaneous dawn raids at addresses in Sydney and Brisbane, apparently in connection with a plot to kidnap, drape in an Islamic flag and behead members of the public randomly selected.

Such atrocities in the two cities are alleged to have been ordered by an Australian currently fighting with ISIS forces, namely, it is said, Mohammad Ali Baryalei (pictured), who has actively proselytised on behalf of Islam in "The Lucky Country"
– or rather The Lucky-How-Much-Longer Country (see video of him here).

None so queer as leftists ...
To quote an official police statement:
'The NSW Police Force has announced the activation of a high-visibility policing operation following the counter-terrorism operation this morning.
Operation Hammerhead is an ongoing statewide operation focussing on high-visibility policing, increased presence in public places and public transport hubs.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione said he has asked the Commander of the Central Metropolitan Region, Assistant Commissioner Mick Fuller to head-up the operation.
“Operation Hammerhead will focus mainly on metropolitan Sydney and primarily involve general duties police. If need be, those officers will be used wherever our operational intelligence dictates.
Hundreds of general duties police, as well as specialist commands, will be deployed from the Police Operation Centre which will remain open 24/7 during the operation.
Operation Hammerhead will also patrol iconic locations such as the Harbour and its surrounding foreshores as well as sporting fixtures and other large scale public events,” Commissioner Scipione said.
Central Metropolitan Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mick Fuller said a major part of operation’s strategy will focus on maintaining strong community engagement.
“Our aim is to provide and maintain high levels of public safety to give all NSW residents the confidence to go about their day-to-day business,” Assistant Commissioner Fuller said.
“To achieve this, together with our partner agencies, we are working closely with our contacts in the community to ensure calm.
We will use a range of officers and squads during the operation that are available at all times of the day and night.
These include but not limited to General Duties, Police Transport Command, the Dog Squad, Operational Support Group officers, Public Order and Riot Squad Officers, Traffic and Highway Patrol, and Mounted Units.”
Following today’s Joint Counter Terrorism Team raids across Sydney, further charges have been laid with a 24 year old man from Merrylands, charged with possessing ammunition without license and unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon.
He has been bailed to appear in Fairfield Local Court on September 24th.
One man has appeared before the courts charged with conspiracy to commit acts in preparation of a terrorist act.
Nine of those detained today have now been released as investigations continue.
Liberal Senator Bernardi's tweet was shrugged off by Prime Minister Abbott
Two women were issued Future Court Attendance Notices.
Police stress that this investigation remains active with the principle focus on community safety and preventing any form of terrorist activity on Australian soil.'

Earlier this evening (Aussie time) a crowd of Islamists organised via social media by the caliphate-seeking group Hizb ut-Tahrir (which is proscribed in most of the Middle East but allowed to operate in Australia and in that Cloud Cuckoo Land which for one more day at least we can term the United Kingdom), estimated at 100 or 200 according to source, gathered outside the Lakemba railway station (video here) for a good old moan about the police raids:
'Hundreds of protesters in Sydney have called on Muslims to stand as one against government aggression.
Signs reading "terror raids cannot break the spirit of Muslims" and "stop terrorising Muslims" were waived by about 10 people among the 200 who rallied in western Sydney to demonstrate against a series of pre-dawn anti-terrorism raids....About 50 people were watching from across the road....
"Women, children should be safe from the terror of the state," they chanted....'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHJWpkyEO-M
Hizb ut-Tahrir bigwig Uthman Badar declared that
'the raids were about creating the "hysteria" needed to make the Muslim community scapegoats.
"We reject the terror laws, they only serve American wars," the crowd chanted before Mr Badar added that western foreign policy was responsible for terrorism.
"We're not fools. We know what the intent with all of this is," he said.
"The people that are leading this, the govt and its agencies ... the world has not seen greater terror than what they have infected around the world."
An incensed young man who said his mother was punched by police as the family's home was raided on Thursday morning yelled at the crowd to "wake up."
"What are you going to do about it? Talk? Seriously? Talk?"
"May Allah curse these dogs."

Brothers Up Front: Hizb ut-Tahrir accuses Australia of waging a war on Islam

Earlier this month, on 7 November, a debating panel at the St James Ethics Centre in Sydney on the topic "God and His Prophets should be protected from insult" included Uthman Badar, a representative of the Islamic extremist group Hizb ut-Tahrir, which wants a worldwide Caliphate with sharia law for everyone.

As The Australian newspaper ("Top debate spot for Muslim hardliner") reported, Badar
'has called Australian Diggers in Afghanistan "fair game" whom Muslims had an obligation to attack.
The event will be sponsored by AMP, and recorded by the ABC. It will also be broadcast by the BBC.
Uthman Badar, who will take part in the IQ Squared debate put on by the St James Ethics Centre in Sydney, has also called on Muslim Australians to boycott Anzac Day because it celebrates British colonialist attempts to seize Muslim land from the Ottoman Empire.'
Banned in many countries, including Arab and Asian ones, but tolerated in Australia and the dear deluded old Motherland, Hizb ut-Tahrir has a history of antisemitism, the Australian Jewish News (8 November) citing as examples its calls for Israel to be "blown off the map" and for "Muslim armies" to "eradicate Israel and purify the earth of Jewish filth".

This blog has mentioned Hizb ut-Tahrir several times, to demonstrate its intemperate nature.

It's surely unconscionable that the St James Ethics Centre should provide a platform to Islamofascists of that kind.  (More on the debate in "God and His Prophets Should Be Protected From Insult" here)

As Vic Alhadeff, head of theNew South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies, said:
"This group and its various global affiliates trade in hate and stand for everything that is anathema to Australian values.  The best course of action is simply to stay away from this so-called debate.  Why give them a platform for their offensive positions?"
"The government is playing a dirty, dirty game .... The fundamental objective of these policies is to change Islam, to secularise Islam, to produce a so-called 'moderate Islam': a state-sanctioned version of Islam that is secular, politically impotent and localised ...."
Sisters at the back: News Limited photo
Alhadeff's words are underlined by remarks at the 600-strong Hizb ut-Tahrir conference in the Sydney suburb of Lidcombe, where a lengthy report was launched claiming that the Australian government via counter-terrorism initiatives and endeavours to wean youth away from radicalism is attempting to divide the Muslim community and undermine hardline Islamists by waging what Wassim Doureihi, Hizb ut-Tahrir's leader Down Under, called "a war on Islam":
"Know your rights.  When ASIO calls the simple message is that you open the door and slam it on their face....
Not only do you reject it [goverment funding for counter-terrorism and counter-extremism], you spit on it because it is money that will be the source of your demise.  It's not engagement, it's entrapment."

"Islamic Culture Is Spreading In An Extraordinary Way" Boasts Australia's Mufti

In this video (hat tip: Ian and Shirlee; through some glitch or other I'm unable to load it onto this blog), Ibrahim Salem, the Mufti of Australia, having waxed enthusiastic about the state of Islamic studies in the Lucky Country ("Islamic culture is spreading in an extraordinary way..."), accuses his adopted country and its ilk of  mendacity ("The West produces lies as much as it produces technology").

Meanwhile, here is Ismail Al-Wahwah, spokesman for the Islamic extremist organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir in Australia, explaining recently what will happen when the reins of government are taken from the kuffar:

Down Under, The Gentleman From Hizb ut-Tahrir Meets The Press (video)

The Islamic extremist organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir, which aims to turn its host nations into Islamic states in preparation for its ultimate objective of a worldwide Caliphate obeisant to sharia law, is banned in most Middle Eastern countries but operates in about 40 countries including Australia.  Although it does not represent the majority of Australia's Muslims, it is increasing in visibility Down Under, and is enjoying a spate of influence in nearby Indonesia.

Not long ago I posted a hair-raising video showing some of its Sydney adherents demonstrating against Israel.

At the weekend, Hizb ut-Tahrir held a  conference in the Sydney suburb of Lidcombe, attended by hundreds (see this trailer).

Here's a press conference with Hizb's media spokesman Uthman Badar.

A Sydney newspaper reports (hat tip: reader Michelle):
'Outside the [main] conference, police were forced to call for reinforcements, including the dog squad, when a group of about a dozen members of the Australian Protectionist Party chanting "no sharia law in Australia" almost came to blows with young men from the Hizb ut-Tahrir event.
Protest organiser and APP NSW chairman Darrin Hodges said: "Hizb ut-Tahrir have been banned in most Islamic countries in the Middle East. We don't understand why they have not been banned here."' http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/australian-troops-fair-game-for-muslims-in-war-on-afghanistan-hizb-ut-tahrir-believe/story-e6freuy9-1226086826814

Flirting With The Enemy: The Curious Standards of Australia's Left

In July last year, in Sydney, the Islamic extremist organisation Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is dedicated to the demise of Western civilisation and the establishment of a worldwide Caliphate, hosted an international conference of its adherents on the theme "The Struggle for Islam in the West".

Some 500 participants heard Burhan Hanif, Hizb ut-Tahrir's UK boss, roundly condemn "secular and erroneous concepts such as democracy and freedom":
"We must adhere to Islam and Islam alone. We should not be conned or succumb to the disingenuous and flawed narrative that the only way to engage politically is through the secular democratic process. It is prohibited and haram."
Calling Australia "this godforsaken country,"Wassim Dourehi, Hizb's leader in Sydney, thundered that Muslims must reject “any kafir political party”, and opined:
“We need to reject this new secular version of Islam… It is a perverted concoction of Western governments. It is a perversion that seeks to wipe away the political aspects of Islam and localise our concerns. We must reject it and challenge the proponents of this aberration of Islam.”
Hizb ut-Tahrir aims at the overthrow of democracy, decries the concept of female equality and demands the subjugation of women to male authority, and insists on the death penalty for apostates from Islam. Deeply antisemitic,  it advocates the end of Israel by violent means (have a look at the video I posted in May, showing Hizb fanatics in Sydney - faces distorted with rage and voices rasping with venom - demonstrating against the Zionist Entity.

Need a reminder? Glad to oblige: http://daphneanson.blogspot.com/2011/05/sydney-street-protest-by-hizb-ut-tahrir.html

Now, since Hizb ut-Tahrir loathes democratic and egalitarian values, and is deeply antisemitic to boot, you would think - wouldn't you? - that the heroes and heroines of the oh-so-politically-correct leftwing parties in Australia would give them as wide a berth as possible.

Not so, however.

Hot on the heels of the Sydney conference came an Israel-bashing fest in Melbourne, organised by that city's incipient Hizb ut-Tahrir presence.  It was held at Brunswick Town Hall, netting the Labor and Greens-dominated council responsible, that of Moreland, $A300 in hire fees.  Despite the Islamic body's avowed aims, which run counter to the council's stated obligation to be "vigilant and ensure that our city's facilities are not used to incite violence, racism, sexism or religious intolerance," the council brushed aside concerns and permitted the Israel-bashing fest to proceed.

And now, in federal parliament, Australia's ruling Labour Party has failed to uphold a Coalition motion  deploring both Marrickville Council for its boycott and Moreland Council for hosting Hizb ut-Tahrir.

A press release of today, by Australian Shadow Foreign Minister Julie Bishop (pictured), who's the Liberal Party's Deputy Leader, tells the story:
"The Labor Party today voted to block a Coalition motion to condemn Marrickville Council’s decision to support the campaign of boycotts, divestment and sanctions (BDS) against Israel.
With the support of key independents, Labor voted to remove the section of the motion which condemned the joint anti-Israel actions of Greens and Labor councillors.
Labor has provided support to Greens and Labor members of Marrickville Council, protecting them from Parliamentary criticism about their decision to support the BDS campaign.
This exposes the hollow and empty rhetoric of Federal Labor MPs who publicly profess support for the State of Israel, but then fail to condemn the anti-Israel stance of the Greens/Labor Marrickville Council.Labor also voted to block the Coalition’s criticism of the anti-Semitic group Hizb ut-Tahrir which has called for the slaughter of Jewish people.
The actions of Federal Labor MPs in Parliament today can only further embolden the anti-Israel elements within the Labor and union movement.Labor stands condemned for its double standards and hypocrisy. "
(Hat tips Rita and Shirlee)
See also http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/bishop-ties-labor-to-greens-israel-boycott/story-fn59niix-1226068257403

Ms Bishop has a highly cordial attitude to Israel - during the "Forged Passports Affair, " when Kevin Rudd's government peremptorily expelled an Israeli representative, she condemned his high-handed action and declared that Australia itself uses forged passports when occasion warrants.
http://media.smh.com.au/national/selections/bishop-weve-forged-passports-1506211.html

And the previous year she demanded that Australia shun the second Durban Conference:

"Given that the first Durban conference was marred by anti-Israeli bias and rampant anti-Semitism, this paragraph provides the platform for a repeat of the same bias and should provide no comfort to principled Governments."
http://www.jwire.com.au/news/julie-bishop-demands-durban-ii-withdrawl/1869

What makes the anti-Israel Left's refusal to condemn Hizb ut-Tahrir all the more startling is that so many of the anti-Israel activists, especially among the Greens, are women.

It's baffling how those who are the first and the loudest to excoriate sexism and male chauvinism among Western men are so prone to ignore the truly evil subjugation of women practised in parts of the East, and to overlook the misogynistic ideology of Islamic organisations like Hizb ut-Tahrir.

That goes double for the Greens, who should be praising Israel's enlightened attitude to environmental issues, as glimpsed in this poster.

For the Greens have long since slid away from the party's foundation priorities into concentrating on doing their utmost to demonise and delegitimise the Jewish State.

And women are in the vanguard of that antisemitic aim.

Sydney Street Protest by Hizb ut-Tahrir against Israel (video)

This video dates from March, and had only ten views until I stumbled upon it, bringing the grand total to eleven.

The quality's not the best, and most of the blood-chilling ranting is unintelligible to the anglophone, though there are familiar cries, and  it does break into English in the middle.  Some of the protesters carry placards in English.

Best not viewed immediately before bedtime!

The View from Down Under

Here’s the Sydney soapbox crowd, doing a little thundering about the situation in Egypt:

And, in case you haven’t already seen it and have half an hour or so to spare, here’s a more formal gathering of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Sydney, last year:

Another for - um - luck:

(Hat tip: reader Shirlee)

In 1853, during the Gold Rush in the Australian colony (now state) of Victoria, a couple of drapers, Messrs Dimelow and Gaylard, established in Richmond, an inner suburb of the city of Melbourne, a store that became a Melbourne icon. Selling shmatter and shlock at knock-down prices, Dimmey’s – as it was soon dubbed – can be seen in this old photograph, its nickname on the ball on the clocktower.

After viewing those videos, this motto of – er – Dimmey’s – strikes me as a good one to keep in mind:
