UK Greens, Anyone?

He's hostage to his party's (anti-Israel) far left and to the (anti-Israel) unions

It seems that according to the latest British polls in the lead-up to May's general election the Conservatives are slightly ahead, with UKIP set to cost them votes.

However, the possibility looms that Labour will narrowly win, and be reliant in government on the support of Scottish National Party MPs.

Such a scenario is hardly calculated to bring a smile to the faces of Israel's supporters.

As for the Greens, if the well-documented anti-Israel stance of such high-profile Greens politicians as Caroline Lucas and Pippa Bartolotti is not enough to scare Israel's supporters away, then I reckon the presence since last year of Shahrar Ali as deputy leader of the UK Greens should be enough to keep any friend of Israel awake at night.

Incidentally, if you imagine that Israel has (for once) escaped the attention of these Stop The War coalition stalwarts and their union mates demonstrating in London against Saudi Arabia a few days ago, think again.

Those anti-Apartheid banners that you see from 5:10 onwards aren't, as may be assumed, purpose-made to protest the segregation/subjugation of women and lack of churches in the Desert Kingdom.

Oh dear, no.

They're banners that anti-Israel fans of certain British football teams carry outside certain football club grounds to express hatred of the world's only Jewish State. Glimpsed on this video holding one is the plummy-voiced woman with long grey hair who recites anti-Israel "poetry" to hapless passengers on Tube trains, and seems to be a ubiquitous presence at anti-Israel demos in the British capital:

In The Al Beeb Man's Stereotype Are Many Mansions: From the BBC, gratuitous references to the "Jewish Lobby" (video)

At 11.30pm on Sunday (8 November 2014) Jo Phillips. described by newsreader Tim Willcox as "our [i.e. Al Beeb's] political advisor" and Nigel Nelson of The People newspaper, joined Willcox for that day's review of the national newspapers.

Although an article from on the BBC website tells us that Jo Phillips was “once head of media in former Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown's office” and although elsewhere on the web she's described as a former parliamentary candidate, Ms Phillips's partisan background was not revealed by Willcox. That omission is despite the fact that in November last year the BBC’s Editorial Complaints Unit (ECU) reiterated the necessity of upholding BBC editorial guidelines on impartiality:

“We should not automatically assume that contributors from other organisations (such as academics, journalists, researchers and representatives of charities) are unbiased and we may need to make it clear to the audience when contributors are associated with a particular viewpoint, if it is not apparent from their contribution or from the context in which their contribution is made.”

With specific regard to BBC News, the ECU stated:

“The production team have been reminded of the importance of clearly summarising the standpoint of any interviewee where it is relevant and not immediately clear from their position or the title of their organisation.”

Willcox ignored this guideline.

.During the broadcast on Sunday, much attention was given to The Independent's front-page report headlined "Labour funding crisis: Jewish donors drop 'toxic' Ed Miliband". That report asserts, inter alia:

'The Labour party is facing desertion by Jewish donors and supporters because of Ed Mili-band's "toxic" anti-Israeli stance over Gaza and Palestine. In a fresh headache for the Labour leader, it is understood that Mr Miliband has been warned that Jewish backers are deserting the party in droves over what community leaders perceive to be a new, aggressive pro-Palestine policy at the expense of Israeli interests....

A senior Labour MP warned that Mr Miliband now had a "huge if not insurmountable challenge" to maintain support from parts of the Jewish community that had both backed and helped fund Tony Blair and Gordon Brown's election campaigns.'At the same time, a former cabinet minister privately admitted that Labour's fundraising efforts were in disarray. The former minister said the party would struggle to raise anywhere near the £19m a party is entitled to spend under electoral law in the run-up to next May's poll. "We will have to pass the begging bowl round to the unions," they said. "That would send a bad signal. In return, they [the unions] would demand to call the shots on policy."

Donations from the Jewish community have been worth hundreds of thousands of pounds a year to the Labour Party. Several previous donors told The Independent on Sunday that they and others are now very unlikely to support the party. They spoke on condition of anonymity."There aren't that many donors to the Labour Party these days, and certainly not the same number of Jewish donors. There is a lot of worry," said one. "I have been a Labour supporter all my life and I would like to see a Labour government, but, on the other hand, I'm not entirely sure I want to see Ed Miliband in Downing Street or Douglas Alexander in the Foreign Office." .... Another previous donor said they had been asked by the party to arrange a fundraising dinner for Jewish Labour supporters but had found no takers....

Prominent Jewish supporters say problems started in the summer with Mr Miliband's aggressive condemnation of Israel's ground incursion into Gaza last August, which he described as "wrong and unjustifiable".... This was followed by a decision to whip a vote calling on the Government to unilaterally recognise Palestine – against long-standing British and Labour policy that recognition should only be part of a negotiated two-state settlement. That decision was opposed by a number of senior Labour MPs – including at least two shadow cabinet ministers – who warned it would haemorrhage Jewish support...'

As we saw here, and as mentioned in passing by the newspaper, one previous Labor supporter who has been incensed by Miliband's stance over Gaza is the actress Maureen Lipman.

In reviewing this report, Jo Phillips, and newsreader Willcox, used the phrase "the Jewish lobby" (which was nowhere used in the report).

Averred Jo Phillips:

“You’re not supposed, apparently, to say anything anti-Israeli, um, and if you attack Israeli political, um, policies or the government policies, then you know, this is what you get. Um, you know it seems to me that it is totally hypocritical that on the one hand they are now going to have to look perhaps to the unions to get some funding, but will be accused of being in the unions’ pockets, and when he’s being brave and principled and standing up and saying, you know, ‘this time Israel has gone too far’ um, people take their money away, so he can’t win, can he?”

And to make matters worse Willcox, citing Maureen Lipman as an example, gratuitously suggested that “a lot of these prominent Jewish faces will be very much against the Mansion Tax” (which is a proposal raised by Labour and the Liberal Democrats to impose an annual tax on houses with a high market value).

As one shocked viewer has observed:

• The idea that a wealthy Jewish lobby seeks to use money to manipulate political policy is a centuries-old antisemitic trope. The BBC’s unchallenged promotion of this slur is shocking and causes many Jews to feel threatened and persecuted by the broadcaster.

• The BBC claimed that the “Jewish lobby” is thwarting a "principled" foreign policy position. There is no factual basis for this accusation.

• With no evidence at all the BBC claimed that wealthy Jews are challenging taxation proposals to hang onto their “mansions”.

Maureen's Message To Miliband

What a great lady British actress Maureen Lipman is. Known for her gifts as an actress and writer, the widow of much-acclaimed playwright Jack Rosenthal well deserves her epithet "a British national treasure".

While a bevy of other star thespians, including Miriam Margolyes, Juliet Stephenson, Emma Thompson, and Harriet Walter, to note only examples from the pro-cultural boycott distaff side of Britain's theatreland, are among Israel's trenchant critics, Ms Lipman outdazzles them all with her steadfast support of the beleaguered, traduced, and heroic little country.

Now, writing in the conservative intellectual monthly Standpoint, she tells Labour leader "Red Ed" Milibank, who placed a three-line whip on his members during the recent Commons debate and vote on whether Britain should recognise a Palestinian state, why she's abandoning, at least for the foreseeable future, her decades-long attachment to the Labour Party.

She writes in part:

'Just when ... anti-Semitism ... is mounting savagely... Just when the virulence against a country defending itself, against 4,000 rockets and 32 tunnels inside its borders, as it has every right to do under the Geneva Convention, had been swept aside by the real pestilence of IS, in steps Mr Miliband to demand that the government recognise the state of Palestine alongside the state of Israel.

.... Many people on the Left and the Right would like to see a two-state solution if it means peace and mutual respect. I am one of them. Any future Palestinian state will be entirely free of Jews, of course. Yet the Jewish state is labelled "apartheid" with 1.7 million Arabs in residence and represented in parliament.

(1) It is a historical fact that the Arab states refused such an offer in 1937, 1948, 2000 and 2008. They have yet to accept Israel's right to exist and their constitutions and broadcasts to this day extol its destruction.

(2) How can you recognise a state until its borders are decided?

(3) If you recognise a state you can officially arm that state. Already billions of pounds have been allotted to rebuild Gaza. Ha! Rebuild the tunnels and reequip the arsenal. Oh, how the propaganda has worked on these clever, concerned people again and again and again. If Hamas and Fatah cared one iota for the Palestinians, might they not have built schools and hospitals and streets for their people the first time the billions poured in and were converted into weaponry and hotel suites in Paris and citizens were used as human shields?...

....May I remind you that no one is tunnelling into Dover or sending rockets into Coventry, yet we seem to have every right to bomb the living daylights out of Iraq. Again. Conclusion: one law for the Israelis, another law for the rest of the world. ....'

Expose The Lies!

There is a war of lies and deceit on the internet generating unbelievable hate by denigrating and delegitimising the legal rights conferred on the Jewish people by the League of Nations in 1922 and the United Nations in 1945. The idea that there are two narratives on the Arab-Jewish conflict is rubbish. There is only one – the factual truth that details the return of the Jewish people to reconstitute the Jewish National Home in its ancient biblical, ancestral and historic homeland after 3500 years of dispersion with the unanimous endorsement of the nation states then comprising the League of Nations.... The "Apartheid" Slur

The division of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) into three separate areas “A”, “B” and “C” was agreed on by Israel and the PLO pursuant to the Oslo Accords.
95% of the West Bank Arabs live in Areas A and B and their daily lives are under the total administration and control of the PLO since the Palestinian Authority was disbanded by Abbas in January 2013. The PLO has total security control in A and shares security control in B with Israel. Israel has total administrative and security control in C.
Israel is entitled to and will continue to take responsibility for the security of Jews living in the West Bank.
Jews were given the legal right to settle in the West Bank under article 6 of the Mandate for Palestine and article 80 of the UN Charter. They did so for decades until they were driven out in 1947 and not able to return there until 1967.
There are Arab roads only in the West Bank that Jews are not allowed to use. Jews are also forbidden from entering Area “A”. Selling land to Jews is forbidden by the PLO under pain of death. The PLO runs the daily lives of 95% of the West Bank Arabs and Hamas runs the daily lives of 100% of the Gazan Arabs. They have been under occupation – and subjugation – by these two evil groups for the last ten years and given no say in their future or any opportunity to elect others to lead them following the disastrous political decisions of their leaders over the past ten years. Hamas and the PLO do not accept the continued existence of a Jewish State and call for its disappearance.
