Eretz Israel is our unforgettable historic homeland...The Jews who will it shall achieve their State...And whatever we attempt there for our own benefit will redound mightily and beneficially to the good of all mankind. (Theodor Herzl, DerJudenstaat, 1896)

We offer peace and amity to all the neighbouring states and their peoples, and invite them to cooperate with the independent Jewish nation for the common good of all. The State of Israel is ready to contribute its full share to the peaceful progress and development of the Middle East.
(From Proclamation of the State of Israel, 5 Iyar 5708; 14 May 1948)

With a liberal democratic political system operating under the rule of law, a flourishing market economy producing technological innovation to the benefit of the wider world, and a population as educated and cultured as anywhere in Europe or North America, Israel is a normal Western country with a right to be treated as such in the community of nations.... For the global jihad, Israel may be the first objective. But it will not be the last. (Friends of Israel Initiative)

Bibi: "They were Taught that Israelis Were Devils, Now We Are Healing Angels" (video)

Here's Bibi's powerful speech, delivered in a low-key manner but no less compelling for that, concerning today's challenges to Israel and the West from "violent medievalists" and regarding the "root cause" of the conflict with the Arabs and what the latter must do to achieve lasting peace:

The quotation in the header concerns the desperate Syrians whom Israel has helped.

In Toronto, A Tale of Two Faiths: Don't praise Jesus in the Square

In Toronto's Dundas Square earlier this year, a Muslim issues the Islamic call to prayer.  An in your face (not to say ear) bit of proselytising, this, complete with the assertion that Islam's deity trumps any other.

And in a nearby park in October:

So why the seemingly heavy-handed decision of the civic powers-that-be to ban a Christian event in the same venue next year? ("It doesn’t matter if it’s speaking or singing. Either way, if you are “Praising Jesus”, and “Praise the Lord”, and “There is no God like Jehovah”, that type of thing, that’s proselytizing…"):
'The City of Toronto has refused to grant a Christian organisation Voices of the Nations (VON) a permit to use Yonge-Dandas Square for their annual music festival next year stating that praising Jesus in their song’s lyrics contravenes with the city policy against “proselytizing.” ....All manner of artists and community organizations apply to use the space at Yonge & Dundas Square every year. Voices of the Nations, an organization founded in 2006 to unite and promote diversity within the Christian Community by showcasing its mosaic of fine arts and music, has held a concert there for the last five years without issue.
However, when Voices of the Nations applied for a permit to perform at the square again next year, they were turned down flat. When VON’s Events Coordinator Leye Oyelani contacted the Square’s Manager of Events Natalie Belman by phone to apply for the next year’s permit, he was told that a permit would not be issued and to look for a venue elsewhere, because apparently singing the name of Jesus in the public square amounts to “proselytizing,” which is contrary to city policy.'

In London, Carolling Anti-Israel Lyrics (video)

Not much deliberate Christmas cheer here, but involuntarily chuckle-inducing...

In London, outside the Sabon store in Covent Garden, a straggling bunch of usual suspects who are so musically challenged that it's a wonder passers-by don't pay them to shut up.

A bloke "of Jewish background" (at least he doesn't say "as a Jew") explains why he's come along to join in the festivities: it has something to do with Israel's treatment of the "indigenous" people of Palestine, apparently.

Video by BDS activist Alex Seymour, an alumni of the anti-Ahava campaign in London.

Lyrics by (I think) Stephen Leah of the York branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, who no doubt had more competent warblers than these in mind when he set Israel-demonising lyrics to the tunes of beloved Christmas carols.

The Problem with Sweden

Here she goes again.  Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom, demonising Israel.
'According to the Swedish newspaper Expressen, Wallstrom – who has triggered several diplomatic incidents with Israel since taking up her post in October 2014 – was asked in the Swedish parliament by Liberal MP Mathias Sundin why she has not condemned in strong terms the recent wave of terrorism in Israel.
Wallstrom said that the attacks were “terrible” and “must not happen,” and added that Israel has “the right to defend itself.”But then she went on to say that the response cannot be “extrajudicial executions” or a reaction that is “disproportionate” so that the “numbers of dead on the other side” is several times greater.
Israeli Ambassador to Sweden Isaac Bachman immediately responded, telling Expressen that “To focus on the actions terrorism victims take in self-defense only serves to draw attention away from the horrors of terrorism. Instead, we should condemn and act to stop the perpetrators, the financiers and the inciters of terrorism.”
He added that Israel has a better record than any other Western country in minimizing civilian casualties while fighting terrorism.
The Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem issued a response calling her words “scandalous, delusional, rude and detached from reality. The foreign minister suggests that Israeli citizens simply give their necks to the murderers trying to stab them with knives,” the statement read. “The citizens of Israel and its security forces have the right to defend themselves. In Israel, every person who commits a crime is brought in front of a judge, including terrorists. The citizens of Israel have to deal with terrorism that receives support from irresponsible and false statements like that.” ...'

Meanwhile, Sweden seems to be well advanced on the slippery slope that will doom it to be a failed state.

Note, for example, the following long radio discussion on the psychology (leftist, of course) behind mass Muslim immigration (only perhaps 30 per cent, if that, are actually refugees from Syria) and what it portends for the future of (indeed, how it is already negatively impacting upon) what was within living memory one of the most enviable and envied countries in Europe.

Sweden: the canary in Europe's multicultural coalmine (features Gatestone Institute's Ingrid Carlqvist who like the two other discussants speaks excellent idiomatic English):

A Benn, Not A Bennite: "Fascists hold our values in contempt ... they have to be defeated" (video)

"We must now confront this evil; it is time for us to do our bit in Syria." The thorn in Jeremy Corbyn's flesh, the late Anthony Wedgwood Benn's son Hilary, Britain's shadow foreign minister  makes a splendid speech that would no doubt have his father spinning in his grave, and which has the Corbynistas gnashing their teeth and wailing:

More here   Hat tip: Brian G.

Hilary Benn is the man who seems set eventually to depose the horrendous Corbyn, and thus, incidentally, make the extreme lefties who joined Labour merely to vote Corbyn in as leader quit the party in droves.

Social media is awash with their anguish!

Some dirty deeds reported here

By a committed anti-Israel activist (recruited only recently to Labour Party membership) in reaction to Benn's speech:

By the (anti-Israel) Stop the War Coalition:

A sarcastic piece by the (famously anti-Israel) children's author and poet Michael Rosen, of Goldsmith's College, London University:

More on Hilary Benn's views on defence here

And although he's clearly not a Netanyahu supporter, Hilary Benn seems much friendlier to Israel than the leftist ratbags in his party; consider his speech in November to Labour Friends of Israel, another source of fury for the Corbynistas.
